GPU minable grc and CPU minable grc are completely seperate distribution methods, so the above suggestion would only affect the gpu miners - it's effectively just taxing the gpu miners more.

Even with scrypt sleep, the 1000boinc point average can be acquired almost instantly with gpu miners. The difficulty should be raised to reflect the work load that gpu farms can handle.

On another note - how does cpu mining work? Is it that there are 75,000grc/day being distributed and it's evenly distributed between hosts according to how much boinc points they submit, to a max of 150grc/day per host?

Also, there should be options to both send a cpu mining beacon and to verify cpu mining is operational, because at the moment you've gotta wait 3 days before you know whether or not you've configured gridcoin correctly.

Do you need to set poolmining up for cpumining, or just cpumining=true in gridcoin.conf file?

Hi,

1. The utilization is calculated 50% from what your current CPU utilization is and 50% from your RACs.
2. We basically don't need to modify the 1000 RACs average that you stated because scrypt-sleep takes care of that. If you have a 100% utilization and your scrypt sleep is 50% then your total reward goes down, because you only hash 50% of the time. However, if you do have ~100k RACs, your scrypt sleep is 100% and even though you have the same 100% utilization as the other user, your reward is going to be a lot more because you hash all the time. The more RACs people have, the more RACs will people need to increase their scrypt sleep so they can hash longer and earn more rewards.
3. CPU mining - 576 blocks a day * 150GRC per block = 86400. That is the CPU mining coin cap. One host can earn a maximum of 150GRC/day and users compete with their RACs for the max reward. The more RACs you have, the more GRC you will earn a day up to a maximum of 150GRC/day per host.
4. Once you setup CPU mining and start your wallet, it checks when and if your beacons were sent and if not it sends them. So if you've never mined you don't need to wait 3 days, it sends them ~immediately...and then again after 3 days.
5. Just cpumining=true   poolmining is something different.

Here's a CPU mining tutorial.
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1922-cpu-mining-tutorialtopic/

Andrew.

is there any way to see how much time (in %) my scrypt sleep and how much time effectively i mine? where i can find this stats? thanks!

You don't have to register the dlls anymore.
I believe the md5 error happens if you don't have boinc in your %program files%\boinc.
You can set the keys:
boincappfolder=
boincdatafolder=

To override the values.

That is because it contains cgminer, it is not a virus.

FYI:
The link for Gridcoin.zip on OP is broken while Gridcoin.msi is flagged by Antivirus as malicious.
We actually removed cgminer; so it should be ok now.
The zip is broken; the latest release of:
http://www.gridcoin.us/download/gridcoin.msi
should work and no longer has the cgminer in it (we put a download cgminer button in the client).

Dear Sir Halford,
where will you take us to?

First off, I am glad to sit in your boat.
I love to participate in science while mining.
Hence, I promote your project in many directions and at every occasion!

The network has come quite a way since October.
Yet, today I am confused - help me please.
Yesterday you stated that your main job needs your focus.
This was when you speculated on starting anew / creating one more project, for fun.
Please say that I got you wrong on that. Be our leader, be Grid.
New ideas might breed features, but don't fork your project and your community.

Back in Winter, I had the chance to swap a few sentences with you.
I asked for your project plans. You said, the chain was already safe for investment.
So, I placed some money and followed along, waving your flag.
Later, cpu rewards were introduced silently, no community decision, no transparent information politics. Evaluations started to tumble.

Meanwhile, more than a million new GRC spill into the network each week.
You could at least have halved the block reward since then, imho.
Did you consider to discuss this openly?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your eagerness.
Thus, may I kindly ask you to elaborate on your plans for Gridcoin,
to set some cornerstones fix and commit to them publicly?

Could we place full trust in your endavour?
I believe, trust is what an early community needs the most.
Continue to be innovative as we have grown to love you, but dont let disruption spoil the show.

Therefore, again, please don't take my words as an offense.
But, give us a landmark, hand some vision to refer to,
please.

Let your ppl start to celebrate with you! Smiley

Thank you for the poem Derm, just please have patience.
A lot of positive things are happening, and I am rounding up all of our loose ends for tighter integration.

The bottom line is I am in talks with Berkeley finally, and we will be able to integrate with them officially.

Rob H.

The Gridcoin linux wallet has a fatal error that needs to be resolved before it can be fully implemented on AllCrypt.

AllCrypt uses RPC calls to communicate with the wallets. The function getblock, which takes a hash as a argument, and returns data about the block in question, is completely broken.

On the command line, some blocks return data - but the data seems like it could be wrong.

Other blocks return various errors:
gridcoind getblock 87940ec2e76b5981d1454ea53de8fa3c0fac4b1c683f72971a74ea8f78751046
error: {"code":-1,"message":"Block number out of range."}

However, I got that hash with:
gridcoind getblockhash 74001
87940ec2e76b5981d1454ea53de8fa3c0fac4b1c683f72971a74ea8f78751046

Also:
gridcoind getblock b228595e0676536b5eed64ad079d8046ea7ed5cb27d94a2c24018b60ec945d59
error: Error parsing JSON:b228595e0676536b5eed64ad079d8046ea7ed5cb27d94a2c24018b60ec945d59

It's completely borked.

Also, when issuing the command line for:
gridcoind getblock 3acbe7fae017d900a0957038dce03c48b5d4458cabd79ad809a194fed9bf2154

It returns what APPEARS to be info for block 3?
{
    "hash" : "d39f406fc1e83823f0af3feccecf97439b8c418340fae92cb32de2a0b0d882f7",
    "confirmations" : 75296,
    "size" : 438,
    "height" : 3,
    "version" : 2,
    "merkleroot" : "8e192930415caa67236c9facd54d5cb64080d340dc2d9db7f06901044727cafc",

        "8e192930415caa67236c9facd54d5cb64080d340dc2d9db7f06901044727cafc"
    ],
    "time" : 1381979271,
    "nonce" : 73673216,

And when using the RPC call to check that same block, it errors out with: (I had to put spaces in the damn site keeps putting it in a code block)

Request error: A r r a y  = > -1 [message] = > value is type str, expected int
Which is completely wrong because a block hash cannot be an INT.

The linux Gridcoin wallet is completely unusable as it stands on AllCrypt. If this coin is on another exchange - we have NO idea how they are doing it unless maybe their wallets are on windows? (What??)

Dear Allcrypt-

The problem is we have 3 commands for Gridcoin, getblock, getblockbyhash and getblockhash.

Getblockbyhash 178bca9db419ef349b040f92e960a7c05914949d4f7f5e6a7228266069f502cd returns the info your RPC is looking for, but our getblock 1 returns the information you are receiving.

What version of the wallet are you running, windows or Linux?  I may be able to change the commands back to the way they are in bitcoin.

If anyone has for some reason, heard a rumor that I'm not 100% committed to Gridcoin, that's simply not true.

Its already consumed my life, and I am still 100% committed to making it the best cryptocurrency.

Nothing has changed.

I agree that we need to scale back the number of gridcoins to the original 84 million with appropriate difficulty retargeting possibly using kimotos gravity well.  I invested in gridcoin because I believed in the vision but if investors continue to get hosed by quadrupling the number of coins then people will stop investing, the value of the coin will plummet, and we won't be able to advance the scientific causes we all would like to.

We didn't quadruple the number of coins.

We doubled the number of coins when we doubled the network mining types.

When we had 184 million total projected coins, we only had GPUs.

Now we have 1300 CPUs doing CPU mining for half of the total networks reward schedule.

I surely hope you don't believe they are not doing anything, because they are the only reason why we reached #52 in the world.

If we didn't have cpumining, we would still be #1000 in the world, but yet with a 10~ difficulty and with 250 gpuminers.

Gridcoin has expanded exponentially because of the cpuminer feature.

It ALSO would not be fair to take away half of their reward and tell them we were kidding.

You cannot have it both ways.

I am willing to discuss this further, but my point is we made a team decision to double the coins to implement CPU mining instead of halving the reward when cpu mining was implemented.

New Version Available:
[1.1.6.7/87/8.7]:
- Added a key to disable the mining console: suppressminingconsole=true (This will also speed up gridcoin if you dont use the mining console)
- Moved scrypt sleep to block 100,000 (required to make the pool work correctly)
- Added 1/2 of Kimoto's Gravity Well (we had it working, but need to ensure this will not cause a hard fork)
- Added support for future credit checking nodes (not officially ready to test)
- Optimized speed in certain areas

There are no changes to the Linux version; I think we are all experiencing orphans and we have to get off of scrypt_sleep; its redicules.

This new release goes back to scrypt, so you should be fine once we solve a few more blocks.

Hey,

I double checked against that tutorial you linked, and cpu mining still isn't working.

I've got grc in my balances, i've got the project list set up correctly, changed recieving to default, running boinc and have full boinc utilisation.

I'm not listed in the cpuminerlist output, and none of my computers have been sending beacons at all over the last few days. Is anyone experiencing the same issues?

edit: just noticed there is an update.

There should be some form of alert for miners that there's an update...

My mistake. I misunderstood that. So now the cap is 368 million coins?  I do appreciate the work that you're putting into this by the way.  I do think CPU mining is important and that it will add to the value of the coin and accomplish more scientific research.  The same can be said about a partnership with Berkeley.  Again, thanks for the work you're putting in and let the community know if there's any way we can help.

0 to 450 coins a day was where I fell solo mining on a R9 290.

That's what everyone says about the coin they're pumping these days.

i just wish there were some stats on the page, can you give me the numbers I seek please?

seems like a coin I could believe in, but i need to know if it'll cover my electricity costs
