Is it safe to have people send BTC right to your wallet? What would the advantage be of using Bitstamp.net?

What exactly do you mean?
Bitstamp.net is an exchange, those aren't really meant to be used as online-wallet.
Use a wallet at blockchain.info instead, that is quite safe.
(But onlinewallets are only as safe as the places where you login with your password)

You may use Bitstamp.net BTC address if you plan to cashout the BTC anyway

Alright, so bitstamp is just for exchanging between currencies. Then is it safe for people to send you bitcoin right to your wallet?

Similar to having your money in a bank or in your wallet.
