As I was back reading on some older post, something came up unto my mind. As we are now, New Members are having problems about the new implemented system which is the MERIT SYSTEM and keeps on whining all day round, now here's what I want to ask, BACK THEN, what was the common problem of the newbies in this forum? What are they whining for?
Sorry for asking some silly questions, it's just that it eventually popped on my mind.

I'm not sure. Before the merit system, you could rank up to Legendary without doing anything positive for the forum. Most of the users would spam all day and farm multiple accounts to later join multiple bounties/signature campaigns. So most of them never had any big problems.

Some were unlucky enough to get added in the SMAS list (basically a list of spammers who can't join some campaigns), receive a negative trust or get banned by a mod.

Don't read older post just use the search feature theymos created for the sole purpose of finding interesting, or better to use Google search.

But I'll give you some answers that I know of.

Some magpie created a lot of account for earning decent amount of $$$$ in signature/bounty campaign.

uncommon
Some members got scammed and whining about the $$$$ they've invested in profitable pyramiding scheme or ponzi.

Nothing unusual was happening, however it is possible that a few owner of an old account is not the same dude that created it yesterday.

Simply "Lack of knowledge" is the common problem of newbies, mostly of them don't know how to take a start on this forum.
There are variety of different sections and boards which are somehow difficult to understand for a new comer.

What are they whining for?

They are whining for money, that's why mostly of the newbies tries to scam others.

I think most of these efforts are to keep it from being profitable to produce FUD accounts. In the past some people would produce large numbers of accounts each day then have them all post stuff like "China is banning bitcoin!!" over and over again. It was a very weak attempt to move the market down in the hope of creating a cheap buy opportunity.

The merit system is concerned not only to newbies. Actually, it's not a problem. In my opinion, the merit system is a good thing.

Let's assume that the earliest users mined this forum as a blockchain. At the end of 2017 a lot of new users registered here. In other words, the hashrate was increased, therefore the difficulty of mining (of ranking up) was increased too.

Before Merit system many users (not only Newbies) were complaing that they were tagged as shitposters by DT members. And then Meta was full of basic questions about ranks, activity, how to upload signature, avatar, where to find Bitcointalk UID and etc.

The merit system is concerned not only to newbies. Actually, it's not a problem. In my opinion, the merit system is a good thing.

I would prefer to use analogy with Bitcoin Cash airdrop. These who had Bitcoins during snapshot received free BCH. These users who had Bitcointalk account higher than Newbie received free airdroped Merit and sMerit according to their rank. Just one difference - after airdrop everyone can buy BCH if they want, while only legitimate way to get Merit - earn it by making quality posts
