Apparently RIAA thinks bitcoin should be shut down.

http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/next-on-the-recording-industry-hit-list-bitcoin

This should be good for another move up tomorrow as people learn they can use bitcoin to piss off RIAA. I didn't know torrent sites took btc donations, but just might buy a few coins now to donate to them if it makes RIAA unhappy.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Good on them. P2P wouldn't be as entrenched in everyone's minds as it is today without them, so I can only hope their "war" against cryptocurrencies will bring them to the masses in the same way.

Awesome thing about bitcoin is that thanks to it, people will be able to pay artists directly and no Mafia organisations like RIAA that only leech money from artists will be needed at all.

That's exactly how it is. Artists should now seed their work by themselves and add bitcoin receiving address to the description. I almost always donate the seeder and/or torrent search engine with some beer money and I love it. If only all the authors had a bitcoin receiving address for donations.

The reasoning is troubled.

The RIAA representative is stated to have said that, basically, anyone helping organisations that infringe copy right laws, should be attacked as well. Apparently, this representative thinks that Bitcoin is a 'person' helping sites like Pirate Bay survive with donations.

Quote:
"RIAA executive vice president Neil Turkewitz released a statement last week detailing web businesses that are either directly infringing copyright or "profit from facilitating such theft." Bitcoin, the trade group contends, falls into the latter category".

According to this reasoning, the FED should be attacked and shut down as well because US Dollars aid to persons infringing IP rights.

Any chance the LEs go after people who have donated to such sites? As we know, BTC TXes aren't anonymous by default. Is there any service that would act as a bitcoin transaction proxy that would mix the coins before sending them to the final destination?

The RIAA has been failing since 2000 to stop piracy so... let them go after bit coin.. that really worked out for them going after the torrent protocol right.

Well then if bitcoin is a "web business" profiting from copyright infringement, why don't they go and sue bitcoin?

This will just pass. It will almost be like americans at one time became a racist people, but things have change. When they will benefit from bitcoin, it will be cool. Some say the more you hate, the more you love.

Haha I love it when organizations I despise choose to fight losing battles (and at the same time help accomplish the opposite of their intentions faster).

Go RIAA. Next up MPAA and the FCC?

Pathetic!

I guess the RIAA supports the FED taking down cash as well then.

It's amazing what these people will do to further their goals, I remember back in the day when they were suing kids etc - they would basically mass mail copyright infringement letters - I got one when I was around 13, filed that right in my trash can - although it did scare me. They wanted like $3k, I don't think I even downloaded what they claimed.

Evil scumbags, I look forward to the day that organization goes down for the evil greedy people they are, and the actions they do!

Right on about getting artists to accept BTC directly. I emailed Lindsey Stirling's youtube account with just that idea a few months ago. No response but hopefully somewhere/sometime people will catch on.

Apparently RIAA thinks bitcoin should be shut down.

The RIAA thinks everything should be shut down. Look up RIAA in the dictionary and it says, "See uberdouche".

Maybe the RIAA will scare some 14 year olds into giving them their bitcoins by saying "if you support bitcoin, you support piracy!"

And the earth is flat......
