Hmmm tried the weekend mining on rpool when i was AFK with both primeminer and jhprimeminer and after submitting several 10/11ch, hundreds of 8/9 ch and 1000's of 6/7ch i got exactly 0 DTC's... Now trying it on the specialized client build for Intel but this lack of a good pool, high difficulty for normal users and unclear info (what i see a lot with new alt coins (ex. unitecoin)) looks to me to keep others away from mining Sad

i'm not a n00b but it feels like this -> lets make it extra difficult for new users so we as foundation have a kickstart in coingeneration... this way clearly the foundation can say, we announced everything so its not a premine... but you get the point Smiley

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I got your point. So here are answers.
1. Rpool looks like scam for many users, a lot of them complained about very low payouts. -> don't use DTC rpool.
2. Lack of good pool is not something that 'helps foundation'. Vice versa, it is not good for promotion, and we understand that. There are several miners now: original miner, Palmdetroit's miner (also released some weeks ago), jhPrimeminer (with mumus changes). You're free to create your own private pool  - there are enough possibilities just now.  Do you see many XPM pools? DTC mining has the same difficulties as XPM mining. Do you think that if it is so easy to get pools? Why there are only 3 XPM pools in that case (and rpool between them)?
3. 2 XPM pools (ypool and beeeer) declined adding DTC . So we need to do all this development from scratch. Main developer works at that. It will not take months, maybe days or few weeks.

Thanks for the fast response.
1. Good to know, but i figured out this myself after coming back from a nice holiday weekend with the girl. Heating my house when i was away with a few i5's and i7's and found a empty DTC wallet Wink
2. True, a pool is not something the foundation is responsible for but if they want a proper and covered launch its more and more a must. i saw little bit same tactics with a cpu coin called Protoshares where the foundation bought themself in with ypool, pointed there massive botnet to ypool and had a 80% of total hashrate the first weeks running for their coingeneration ( this is ofcourse my own observation and no way i can get this black on white from their p.o.v.).
3. proper answer, thanks for the info. so lets see if we can get this solomining running on linux.... Smiley

I've been looking into the pool thingy, definitely needs to be open source. I looked at stratum+stratum-mining, however they are more SHA256 oriented than XPM/DTC. Unfortunately it gets worse, without some open source XPM/DTC miner, I have no way of knowing how everything works, what kind of data is needed.

If someone can provide me with some info, I'd continue with my experimentation.

I have released a full featured blockchain explorer for Datacoin here:

http://www.chainbrowser.com/datacoin/

I still have some features that I am working on, but it was finished enough that I thought I would share it with the community.  If anyone has any suggestions or critiques please let me know and I will see what I can do to add or rectify them.

If you want to support further development and server costs, please help by sending DTC to DR3WjxiK7BaGRsNAZL1rNN26ojYaVGbSoG

I really like the fact that this coin is based on Primecoin's proof-of-work system rather than SHA256 or scrypt. Besides the obvious benefit of actually doing some useful work, no GPU/FPGA/ASIC mining means the threat of centralization is less significant.

We really need a public pool for this coin. Someone has been quietly mining with a small pool for a while now. An example is:

http://www.chainbrowser.com/datacoin/block/9aad979fdd8b9e66723b689a63c31e065a22d4eb84671b7bb1a7e04d5bac9690/

I think that it is not pool, but couple of VPS instances pointed to one.
Main difficulty with pool is implementing some protocol for avoiding cheating, so it's not such easy as with scrypt coins. But you can start your own 'pool' with your friends where no one will cheat Smiley

BTW - thanks for block explorer one more time!

If this is true there should still only be one output for the block reward correct? I have multiple miners pointed to one wallet and only see one output. I remember the split block reward being an extra feature of some pools some time ago.

no, this dosnt work. if you point multiple miners to a getwork rpc, all blocks found will end up just as if its solo mining.

Yes, my fault, of course. I was just thinking about some kind of private p2pool, so was in mess with that.

These may be dumb questions from a technical perspective, but I'm going to ask them anyway:

1) Would it be possible to alter Datacoin so that old files could be deleted when they are no longer needed? This could be effective for lowering the size of the blockchain.

2) Would it be possible it update files in the blockchain in the future? This would be useful for simple notepad-esque files where you just want to keep a Todo list or Evernote type files synced in the blockchain.

I'm really looking at Datacoin as a DAC for cloud storage. I know there has been mention of "personalized chains", but I'm not sure how those would possibly work. Would the same Datacoin/KB rates apply on these personalized chains? Would these personalized chains create a situation where Datacoins would be less valuable on those personalized chains?

Sorry for all the random questions. Just trying to see what will be possible with Datacoin. It seems like the best new coin around right now. I think any of the new coins that will be able to compete with Bitcoin will have to be DACs, and that's definitely the case with Datacoin.

Can someone help me understand how to solo-mine with the cpu.

Do i just simply open the datacoin-qt.exe and it automatically starts mining?

I also put in the console:

setgenerate true -1
getminigninfo

console telling me im getting 513 primepersec.

Thanks for any help, i'm new to this and its hard to find resources.
