best solution to reduce spam in the forum

if you browse some of the posts  in bitcoin talk  u will notice lot of unnecessarily reply  to posts  or some people agree with the post owner   while other may just repeat  the

same existing replies   with a different style  ( some only copy past )  

and while the merit system  was created to solve that problem   he  kinda of failed  because  people still doing same posts  for an obvious reason  signature bounties

( some will say that merit was for rank  ..well  yes it is but  its kind of created a solution and problem in the rank system  )


so my main concern is why bitcoin talk forum don't have a like button ( up vote ) ?   that will solve lot of problems and reduce spam

If you find any scam and spamming with the usage of merits. One thing all the people missed while they are opening the thread, they just missed to use the search bar above in the forum
Before anyone want to create a thread in any section for asking their question. Better they may try it to avoid that creating thread and spamming replies below to that. If newbies asks there we must need to help them. instead divert them to use the right thing.

The only one solution to this has a limit in replies in every thread to avoid same thought and limit on pages(15-20 pages I guess)
OP may lock the thread if they meet the limit on replies.

No, I think there is an improvement in the forum since the merit system was implemented by sir theymos, everyone was trying themselves to have a quality post and hoping that every post count they have they earn merit as well.

What do you mean by spam? if they have the same thought with the OP's post still it is counted. That does not matter how long or short that you have posted as long as relevant to the topic and sharing idea.

Why is it a joke? 'thump' means to strike or punch. Striking a post means hitting it, or reporting it to a moderator.

The only advantage of a 'thumbs up' button would be if members used it instead of posting "+1" or "me too" or "I like that", or any of the other approbations that clutter the threads.

lets say we have +50 page of comments  in a topic that have good concept    im sure reading all the posts is waste of time but if we have a thumps up button i can just bye pass to see topic with  a thumps up  that users before me read them and liked them

That's a solid idea to complement the merit system because the threads shown on the first page are more likely to be read and thus more likely to get considered for a merit point.

i agree with you  that will make it easy for moderators or smerit source  to spot good posts with good contents  and if someone think he is smart and up vote a mediocre

Exactly.  And I'd say that people around here certainly do care about the scamming problem, which is why DT members tag suspected scammers and the reason we have the trust system in the first place.  The spamming/shitposting problem, though, is far more pervasive.  It's everywhere.  Theymos would never have put the merit system into place if even he didn't see how bad it's gotten or care about the quality of discussion here.

OP is not helping anything, though.  He's part of the problem, IMO.  His posts are as bad as any I've seen, but I've learned that shitposters generally tend to think they're doing a fantastic job writing what they write.  They're completely blind to their own faults and to the truth, which is that no one reads stuff that looks like it was churned out by your below-average five year old child.  Those posts aren't going to be read at all, much less merited.  The only thing they will earn is a click of the "report to moderator" button, which Jet Cash has appropriately recommended.

And be like the other shitty forums around the internet where people keep on begging for likes, up votes, reps, etc? No thanks. It's quite different here but things are improving and in a different manner. I don't want to see the forum spammed with,

"If this helped you, don't forget to like or +rep"
"+rep to view this thread"
"don't be a freeloader like or +rep"

and all those other bs other forums have.

Another thing about other forums I've been on, they have a minimum post or worse reps or likes to be able to post in particular sections of the forum. Where's the freedom in that? Here, you can post anywhere you like even if you just created your account without restrictions aside from some time restriction that won't allow a new account to post or PM successively.
