Hi,

I recently lost my hdd due to a computer crash so after getting a new computer I re-downloaded bitcoin.org but now there is no longer a "generate coins" button?

Is this an error/intentional?

Thank you.

It was removed, intentionally, because the total hashing power of the bitcoin network is so large now, that CPU solo mining (which is what that option was) is so infinitesimally unlikely to produce anything that it is worthless.

Solo mining on a CPU, even the best CPU available on the market right now, would take years before finding a block.  Heck, even solo mining with the best GPU right now, if you're only using one gpu, would take months.  Since the difficulty goes up every 2 weeks...   let's just say you're pretty much wasting your time solo mining unless you have a mining farm with many video cards.
