Most of you have probably heard about George Soros a billionaire who is reportedly taking an interest in cryptocurrency trading. Just before this event, he's been negative on bitcoin, calling it a bubble and etc, but with his sudden interest now in trading with his $26 billion assets, I guess we could probably say that he saw the potential of cryptocurrencies.

How do you think will this affect the market and all the user of cryptos? Can we expect a price spike in the market then after a while, a sudden downtrend movement again?

If George Soros even puts just a billion into the market then we will see a price hike and a massive one at that because that would mean there is much demand and once people see prices start going up, then they will start buying in too thereby increasing the price.

I don’t consider George Soros as loyal investor, honestly with his controversial involvement in destabilising from country to country this won’t be a good things cryptocurrency. His idea of using money to manipulate things will only make this community more in danger.

First impression last as they say, for what he have said before their is a big possibility and other whales will dominate and manipulate to crash the market for his advantage.

I do not know much about this issue, whether it is influential or not, this is important to bring positive news. there will be no spikes, most of us will see prices in the market begin to rise again slowly in the next few days, if the spike occurs quickly then the potential for a sudden crash will always overshadow the price. Right away the market will pump up the price and we will soon leave this bear market downtrend / market.

That billionaire is not a risk taker we know that bitcoin is worth risking for. people are getting such an FUD and sell all their tokens because they knew that one of the most rich person said that it is bubble. we should consider also that many people get rich by using btc.

If there is truth in that he wants to invest in cryptocurrency I think that does not change things dramatically,it is probably very small amount just for testing how things works. The fact about his billions of wealth can act psychologically on people in connection with investments in BTC,but we all know such people do not invest too much money in risky projects.

By the Wikipedia , Soros net worth is "only" 8 billion $,and he donating rest of the money to his philanthropic agency-so I guess his time is close to end,he is 87 years old.

Well, that would be pretty much an interesting thing to happen because clearly, if this George Soros guy invests with billions, it will really affect the price of bitcoins big time or any altcoin in the market. Of course if the price increases, there will be a domino effect due to the fear of missing out which will drive the prices even higher. The only thing that makes me worry about this is what if this guy or a number of people like him that got into this industry decides to team up and do a pump and dumb scheme on this market. That would mean thousands of losses for small investors like us. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe if this is indeed George Soros to invest billions of dollars, but for me it will not be a big spike, where bitcoin is now more money withdrawal, maybe for bigger spikes take a long time but very good for the future. but was very surprised that someone who spread the negative news but invested in cryptocurrency, maybe he was not aware of the true bitcoin strength, fed up with such people.

If he finds crypto more interesting to invest in terms of creating different companies using crypto transactions, maybe there might be a big spike in crypto because of it needs more crypto to transact, so the demand will get higher with this development.

Why the sudden U-turn though? Him and Warren Buffet has been attacking bitcoin specially during the height last December. Of course a billion thrown in the market will really change the complexion of the game. The price will start to pick up and soon we will get to 5 digits again. I really don't know if he really is going to invest on crypto, but if this is true then its the needed boost that we all have been waiting for.

He's known as a shorter and as someone who usually manipulates and crashes markets, so I doubt we'll see something positive from his adventures in the crypto market. Also, the timing seems odd, why would he want to invest now? In my opinion, I don't think someone like him would tell the average joe that he's going to start trading cryptocurrencies, I bet he's been doing it for quite a while now....maybe he's been shorting since January, who knows.

I bet he has ulterior motives. But if by the time he puts his money in crypto we'll wait for that price increase. We really need more investment to increase the value of bitcoin so it will be of great help. But we have to be careful with his tactics. We just have to be ready by the time he will dump it.

That's what I've been saying. A sudden turn of an event coming from him, a person who's always been on the negative side of bitcoin especially when bitcoin reached its peaked last December. Imagine George investing $1 billion of his wealth to crypto at $7000, we all know that it's price will surely spike. So let's say that it will increase at $10,000/bitcoin after he invested, even if he doesn't wait for bitcoin's price to increase even more and decided to sell at that price, he would end up with $1,428,571,428, that's almost a 50% from his initial investment.

The millionaire will contribute to increasing the demand for the cryptocurrencies in whichever currencies he invests in resulting in the rise of the values of those coins and the market cap would also start increasing and the circulating cap would also rise as more traders would start making trades through the coins during the skyrocketing period.
The bottom line is there will be a hot ambience in the market as it will start to gradually rise and get stabilized after a period of the currencies at high rates waiting to rise again until it attracts more such investors.

This news of George soros is a good news because such controversial billion is going to bring some attraction, attention and confidence in the market. Although from what I read, he isn't investing all the $26 billion but taking a decision to venture in as a critic will help in the media and more trust will be regained in the social webs like facebook, google, youtube , twitter etc.

If he invest all his asset worth of $26 Billion into cryptos then surely it will make a spike in the crypto currency field. Cheesy

But I don't think he will,I consider this as just a rumour created by someone who want to make green in the crypto market after the long red days.

Two effects will as usual.

Good - when he put billions of his assets to cryto or to bitcoin to be specific then that will pump the market.

Bad - another manipulator will come and expect that when it reaches highs, expect that he will take profit in billions too.

If I was him, I would just put some of money into cheap coins, in old ones, who been here  for 3 or more years and everyone heard about them. Then I would talk with their CEO about upcoming events and offer them my help. And then I would just start invest in advertisement and do it till it will not create an tendetion, then I will just start selling my coins in 4 steps (to not create panic and get midle result).

Although from what I read, he isn't investing all the $26 billion

Of course not. Firstly, someone being worth like $26 billion doesn't mean he has that exact amount in liquid capital, where secondly, these traditional billionaires never pump tremendous amounts of capital into something they see as a plaything. I very much doubt that he will allocate even $10 million to be invested in crypto, especially because of how much of a new and speculative market it still is for him. People shouldn't forget that these traditional billionaires more often than not don't see any good in Bitcoin because it lacks intrinsic value according to them. While I am mildly optimistic about this, I am maintaining my conservative stance till I see an actual change for the better. In this market you can't take anything for face value, that the market has taught us throughout the years....

Let's not confuse trading and investing. The CNBC and Bloomberg articles both recite the same statement: internal approval to trade virtual currencies. The crypto media is putting a more positive slant on it. I didn't see mention of hedge fund investment. We shouldn't automatically assume the money Soros puts into the market will be net positive. Trading includes margin shorting, puts, calls, options, etc and not just buying spot and investing.

And remember, Soros is famous for shorting the markets. He famously made billions of dollars by shorting the pound in the 90s. He's bet heavily against the S&P 500 and Nasdaq more recently. I'm not saying that's what he plans to do here, but everyone here seems to think he'll just dump $26 billion into BTC or something. That's unlikely. Tongue
