Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

It will be hard to justify required 700 MB for block chain storage to a common user.

Maybe as an optional package in their repository though.

Say, why it's not even in Debian? Did anybody try to maintain a package there?

I think the issue is that there are too much important features still only planned - the project has not even left the alpha stage so it would be illogical to promote it as stable software in major OS distributions.
