The direct answer will be "NO" but giving it a second thought considering the recent "hammer dropdown" will create an impression that government is really winning the fight.

The price of Crypto has been dropping due to government dropping "an heavy hand" and interference in the crypto world then followed by the biggest social media like Google, Facebook, Twitter.

That's sad...

Will they succeed?

What are your thought?

I think a coordinated government effort to shutter cryptocurrency could send the remains of the crypto-world underground, the question in my mind is if there is enough support for crypto right now that will force government to accept and regulate crypto instead of trying to shut it down.

Governments cannot stop the transactions. It is completely impossible. But as you mentioned they can try to stop people from using cryptocurrencies by making some rules.
But I don't think they want to stop them anymore. According to Cointelegraph, 22 countries sign declaration for european blockchain partnership. Some big countries are among these countries. Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Austria, Portugal and Ireland have signed the declaration.

Hopefully we will get to a point where there is too much money to made from taxing crypto to ban it. Unfortunately, this also means aligning with the government's demands, which is going to be antithetical to the notion of holding the blockchain as infallible.

I think a coordinated government effort to shutter cryptocurrency could send the remains of the crypto-world underground, the question in my mind is if there is enough support for crypto right now that will force government to accept and regulate crypto instead of trying to shut it down.

Just look at how the G20 meeting turns out. There are a couple of governments who put effort to at least put a stop on crypto-currency, and everyone was really excited as how the meeting would turn-out. Fortunately, there's a lot of crypto friendly countries as well, and the meeting ended on a positive note. They might put regulations though, but the meeting was a good sign that we can't be stop at our tracks. So there's always 2 side on the equation, so I doubt that they will succeed in stopping this revolution.

The government is sick and tired of people yelling scam this and scam that, people signed petitions left and right and now their hammering down ad making sure everything abides by law. OF course government is bigger than crypto, they're bigger than everything at this moment, thats the problem in this world the people have lost control.

They'll not succeed in this fight as long is a commodity is useful and profitable bitcoin will still strive to make it's way to be an alternate way of payment, investment and income. They can drop a heavy hand on crypto currencies but as long as there are people who support decentralized system it will survive.

Cryptocurrency and decentralization all go hand in hand, and I think the government has not won against bitcoin, bitcoin still has a lot of enthusiasts and prices are still high when viewed from the history of prices.

The fall of the cryptocurrency is not due to a dropping government, I think this is because of the bubble that is in a downward trend when after a high rise is being experienced in the year 2017 yesterday, and someday it will return bubbles again.

People are tired of centralized systems and decentralization has only begun with cryptocurrency. I would consider it more of a bridge that is being built everyday. We are not there yet, but if its what the masses want it will eventually be bigger then all governments.

That bubble has busted due to government actions on exchanges. Yes, last year bitcoin prices raised many folds but burst those bubble some reason was required and that was government action. In India now exchanges are not allowed to do financial transactions with banks then can one buy and sell cryptos on these exchanges?

But no government has come up with a set of regulations but they just talking about putting regulations so people are not sure what to do and they now step back from trading. So demand for cryptos is slowly reducing and that's why prices are going down.

I believe if it happens right now then YES the government will win the fight. To be honest, it is quite easy to manipulate people. Not everyone will get easily mamipulated but the world is filled with idiots. Crypto is still in it's initial stage and not massively adopted due to which the influence of the government is more heavier and that's why right now the crypto world is facing a doom. Unless crypto gets more support from the community and gets highly adopted it will be tough for it to defeat the system.

All decisions are not governmental and big decisions. The negative information from the government is like a trap to help sharks catch their prey. The development of the market is not affected too much by the government and the media such as FB, Twitter because whales and sharks are the ones who decide the trend.

you are confusing the fight against scammers with the fight against cryptocurrencies. what you are calling "hammer drop" is the first fight and there is nothing wrong with that. it is eliminating all the scumbags that have been scamming newcomers all this time, like the ICOs.

and the price of altcoins have been dropping like always it has nothing to do with anything but their pump and dumps.

Governments can have an impact on the price of Bitcoin and other Cryptos where they can affect on
  • The process of converting Bitcoin into Origins(cash out): Through this process, the government can take out the big whales from the game.
  • More restrictions: The imposition of more laws that criminalize all those who have a Cryptocurrency that makes them use it on the black market only.

These assumptions need international consensus for their success, which is not available. Since these Cryptocurrencies are decentralized, the influence of individual governments remains limited.

Well, I agree with you. Even they do or make everything to stop implementing and adapting bitcoin I think there's a small chances that it can be possible but that doesn't mean that they can implement that rules all over the world because I think that it will depends on the countries government. Every country has a different belief and description to crypto and every government in one country has a freedom to choose what they wanted to implement to their country.

That question should be addressed not to cryptocurrency itself but to the whole cryptocurrency community. The very survival of cryptocurrency is resting on the support of the people...without it the government will be more inclined not to support cryptocurrency and will instead do what it thinks can be the best for the situation and that can include killing cryptocurrency movement as it might not be gaining any big advantages on the whole thing. But once the government can sense that more and more people are strongly supporting cryptocurrency it can easily compromise and formulate acceptable ways and means to deal with the whole matter. The problem is that people are getting afraid to show their strong support for this fledgling industry...or am I wrong?

The banning of Crypto currency advertisements did not impact on the decentralization of Bitcoin. We still have the same amount of nodes and it even increased after these announcements. Yes, the price dropped a little, because some of the scammers were unable to advertise their scams on social media, but other than that, it is business as usual.

Governments are not going to stop decentralized crypto currencies by cutting off advertisement opportunities on social media. We still have other media and word of mouth advertising opportunities.
