Note that if you try and spend $10, I'll give you .25 protoshare ($2.5@currency prices on btc38, which means you can get you first $10 of cloud mining done as a test for 25% off)*Thank you to Super3 and Belltown for the original guide* Hello Everyone, Recently a thread has been published about mining Protoshares on the cloud - something which can be very profitable to do. Here I have taken the feedback from people in the cloud and have decided to put that all in one thread for you guys. I've also tried to make it a bit simpler for "newbies". To start, please sign up for DigitalOcean using my referral link: https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=3a96071d7d5f If you do, I'll give you some PTS for trying it out:), just post your address in this thread. To get extra, let me know you used my referral code (and if I got the referrals) then I'll give you .25 PTS! Guide For beeeeer.orgFirst you need to create a droplet. I recommend starting with as large of a size as possible, though the best started is the 4 CPU / 8 GB - but feel free to start with a smaller one. Just don't use the smallest because when I tried it I got an error for using too much memory. . Make sure to make Debian 7.0 x64 your image. Once your droplet is created you should see a button in the top right that says root access. Click on that button and use your username and password (that are emailed to you when you create a droplet) to log in. Once you have logged in type in the following code in order: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y git make g++ build-essential libminiupnpc-dev sudo apt-get install -y libboost-all-dev libdb++-dev libgmp-dev libssl-dev dos2unix git clone https://github.com/thbaumbach/ptsminercd ~/ptsminer/src make -f makefile.unix ./ptsminer <your PTS address> <number of threads> Go to http://ptsweb.beeeeer.org/user/<your PTS address> to see how many coins your getting! If this guide helped you to mine some coins please send your tips to PqmyVWJtJgb2qudCiDyQvTMo7ibJfWiuvY Thanks! [Currently Paid Out: 2.75 PTS] [Currently Owed: 0.00 PTS] Guide for ypool.net coming soon:)

I've been running the script for around 8 hours, all that time beer was down. Does that mean I'm mining for nothing? I've seen no payments or anything in my wallet so I'm a little confused as to how this works.

Yeah its been a pain for me too. I'm trying to figure out how to get it to work for ypool.net, more reliable. Except ypool.net I haven't figured out how to see PTS earned per worker so unless you make a separate account for cloud computing it would be harder to see how much your cloud servers have earned and if there worth it. Do you need a username for Github, it worked for me w/out one. That miner isn't mine I'm just linking to it for you guys to put on the cloud server. However right now, my miners connected to beeeeer.org are still running, even though the stats aren't turning up I'll check it tomorrow morning to see how its doing.

The website is down but my laptop and online miner are both still connecting. We'll have to wait for statistics to come back up to see if we got anything. Also realize if your for example using the $10/month option, beeeeer.org pays out at 1.00 PTS which could take a while because 1 PTS = $7 and your not going to get like 1 every 8 hours from $10/month in expenditures, its not that profitable

Is this miner the most recent they released?
On my AMD 4 core at home I get 77c/m and I'm only getting 75-77c/m on the 8 core in the cloud. Maybe this is to be expected?

I'm using the 4 CPU model, running one instance with 7 threads. I only get 26 c/m. Am I doing something wrong? If someone could give me some pointers or something that would be much appreciated. Should I run multiple instances and if so how would I do that?

Cloud Cores are slower than non cloud cores. I'm researching how to make it faster but don't be surprised if it is slower. Focus more on your profits/costs. I'll see if I can get it more optimized though:)

For those who are curious. I am currently running the following. 1x of the $10/month instance: currently getting .1 shares/minute/each (profitable based on my calculations) 3x of the $20/month instance: currently getting .3 shares/minute/each (profitable based on my calculations) I remember reading somewhere on the website that they limit you to 5 instances so I may make the last one a big one - one of the several hundred dollar a month ones depending on how it goes . Now is the time to mine - Chinese markets have pushed the price per PTS to almost $10/each at btc38.com (.022BTC/each) - large profit to be had. On the same note the reward for signing up under me has been decreased to .25 PTC otherwise I'm losing money for those who sign up under me - people could sign up and then just make accounts and collect 1 PTS each time making a profit + having $10 in cloud mining credit.
2 people have come forth to claim their reward so far.

Yeah I've had the make -f makefile.unix error. Try destroying your droplet and creating another one - and then being very careful about entering all the code in correctly, that's the only thing that worked for me.

It worked amazing up until yesterday when the difficulty increased 4x (I was making 300%+ my investment)... now I'm making ~140% my investment, still not bad, but not as good either. But the price of protoshares is also going up a lot, which is making up for losses.

[UPDATE]
#1 I have talked to one of the curecoin devs and when the coin is released I plan on working to create a cloud mining guide for it within the first few days. The reward for signing up under me will most likely be split: you will get roughly $2 in curecoin + $2 will also be sent to the red cross, or another popular charity.
#2 I am running a test on digital ocean for ~24 hours for 5 of the $80/month 4 CPU instances. I will let you know how it goes and whether or not it is profitable. The cost for this time will be $14.40, so I want to get 1.75 PTS to start making a profit.

I'm glad you're planning to do this and support the project as I plan to do so as well with my local hardware, however, I think a 50/50 split may be a little aggressive. I'm all about charity but at the same time we all want to make sure we make a little coin as well. I'd definitely be down for a 75/25 split, keep in mind we'd also be folding which is helping to contribute as well.

I've been getting some questions about those using putty ssh to log in - with putty it appears if you close the session, it does stop mining - does anyone else have recommendations / info on this.

Guys, be on the look out for a guide to get free mining w/ Windows Azure free trial - free money for a month and then you can shut it down and take your earnings - no cost to you. Relatively newbie friendly (no entering code into a command console, its like setting up a new miner on Windows 7)

Cloud mining protoshare test completed: 15% profitability on 5x $80/month servers (probably higher now since Bitcoin's price has literally gone up 50% in the last 24 hours while protoshare's price has only gone down ~25%.
Be on the look out for a primecoin test and the new curecoin guide which hopefully will come out soon (if they ever release the coin... I'm very impatient.) Also remember to sign up for a cloud server under my referral link for profitable rewards + a bonus for signing up (increasing your profitability even more!)

Thanks for the tut.
How many servers are you running and should we increase this count?
As well, how profitable is this if we're running 5x, in terms of PTS/day.
I was running 5, however now I'm scaling back operations to put more funds into testing Windows Azure (for which you guys should see a guide coming out for soon). When I was running 5x of the $80/month I was making ~10% profit a day not sure of the exact PTS amount but the cost for the 5x $80/month is $14.40/day so I was getting ~$16/day in PTS. However, much more profit can be had from running 5x $20/month because they are 2 cores vs. the 4 cores of the $80/month - you could probably expect 100% profit on your investment.

Any ideas how I can find if my mining has actually started? What should my share/h be for a 2 core ?
Also, is there any other websites I could use with a cloud miner but with a Windows type OS so it is more familiar to me that I can use with the ypool ?
With regards to accessing the speed, do I check it in the protoshares wallet in the "collisionspermin" column ?

I guess you can treat your candy floss but any resultant bill from the dentist might need to be covered by more mining :O

By the way, I did get it to run on Digitalocean, but only with one thread per droplet. More threads cause the program to crash. I'm using 2 1GB droplets with one thread each. Has anyone here succeeded in getting it running with more than one thread?
I'm wondering what configuration gets you the most bang for your buck. Would, for example, a 2GB droplet with 2 threads (assuming it doesn't crash) be more efficient than two 1GB droplets with 1 thread each?

make: yasm: command not found
For me, simply: fixed that . . . Q: I'm running ~80-105 cpm on an 8-core debian install at digitalocean . . . how does this compare to the profitability of other schemes listed in this thread? [EDIT: ~127 cpm] (If it's more profitable, I'll detail the configuration that achieves it.)

This is very unprofitable at the moment. It's only for hobbyists. I took a look at this user's statistics: http://ptsweb.beeeeer.org/user/Pbv7ufWTykwhgKrXZTnLAd2FCMX2bNCb9oI calculated that 0.12703 over 4 days using (2 cores) is the equivalent of 0.4763625 protoshares a month using 1 core. 0.12703/4/2*30 = 0.4763625 . Now the price is around $11 a protoshare at the moment. This means $5.2399875 mined, for the cost of $5. Caveats! The difficulty has jumped sharply. The statistics are from 1 month ago, now it's much more difficult. You won't even breakeven. From what I've read the amount of protoshares a day has more than halved so miners are paying $5 to make $2.50. Furthermore, if you decide to drop out at any time like the one above, you won't even be able to cashout... In this situation, you have effectively made nothing... I also looked at the cloudatcost, but it appears it is aimed more at people that are using unlimited bandwidth and running a youtube views bot rather than something that places burden on the CPU.
