Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I think this is a great idea.  Everyone from all over the world can donate in the same currency with virtually no transaction fees (compared to Credit Card).  This will ensure that the most amount of money possible can be used for the relief fund!

i take issue with donating my BTC to a charitable organization.. couldn't some guy who is in charge of the "wallets" just anonymously transfer out the BTC to his own private wallet? there'd be no way of stopping him. it'd be like handing him my donation in a dark alley, in full bags of cash.

Donating via BTC is not the best way. Its better to donate via traditional way in reputable non for profit foundations and institutions. If those foundations and institutions would accept bitcoins then its okay to donate but donating to anyone without the proven reputation, I think its not advisable.
