Well, yes, very many people are trading in order to increase the number of bitcoins, not the dollar amount. In principle, this can be true.

Yesterday, information emerged that the administrator managing the bankruptcy estate of Mt Gox from December 2017 to February 2018 sold bitcoins and bitcoin cash worth over USD 400 million. The sale was made on the Kraken stock exchange, the following screenshot shows a bitcoin price chart and bitcoin transactions for Kraken. It was enough to pay off all creditors because the debt is calculated at bankruptcy prices (less than $ 500 for btc), the remaining 160,000 bitcoins and all forks will probably go to Mark Karpeles and other co-owners of Mt Gox.

Bitcoin is a digital money and an electronic currency too .  If we try to analyse both Bitcoin and altcoin ,Bitcoin is strong in the market and it have full control in the market. When Bitcoin price falls down altcoin value also depriciates so according to my point of view Bitcoin will remain at the top and be the king of the crypto world . In future we can  predict  that there will be more altcoins  and it may dominate after the blockchain technology is matured.

You can't put a question like that. Bitcoin and Altcoin have different purposes and different uses. Bitcoin as a means of accumulation, bitcoin replacement of gold.

However, Bitcoin leading position seems to be doubtable...

hahahaha

Dude, do you need to ask people why they're trading altcoins? I am convinced that the answer will be: because I want to increase my bitcoins. People rely on bitcoin over the long term and look at altcoins as a means to make quick profits (get more bitcoins) and do not believe in the project itself. In a few years many altcoins will disappear, but bitcoin has the potential to stay for many years.

as this guy said:
so many investors that do trading aim just one thing, " to increase their btc amount" which tells us that people are trading alts for btc and alts may be here for short term and btc in long run

I agree with him and added some things

as Altcoins have recorded a stronger rise recently and the market is less affected by Bitcoin. Instead of following the general price trend of bitcoin, many cryptocurrencies also start to follow their own “trajectory”.

when the price of bitcoin drops, all altcoin also fall and when the price of bitcoin stabilizes so the prices of altcoins rise again, when the price of bitcoin rises, then the prices of altcoins also rise in American dollar, but they fall in relation to bitcoin. The altcoins are dependent on bitcoin and only change if some altcoin has a pump and dump caused by some good news or some group of pump and dump

Bitcoin now still stay on top, if its not keep updating and being develop then alt coin could shift bitcoin position, now more people like to invest in alt because tgry are cheaper and alt coins are easier to rise and manipulated, most of the people used bitcoin as investment but they used alt coins for trading

for now the cryptocurrency market is being dominated by altcoin, because it can be seen in coinmarketcap.com that bitcoin dominance is only at 36%, whereas by the end of 2017 bitcoin dominance is at 65%, that means for now altcoin is on the rise

In times of volatility and uncertainty, investors tend to favor one particular crypto that has high liquidity and is stable. At the current time, Bitcoin price trend still dominates the market trend.

However, Bitcoin leading position seems to be doubtable as Altcoins have recorded a stronger rise recently and the market is less affected by Bitcoin. Instead of following the general price trend of bitcoin, many cryptocurrencies also start to follow their own “trajectory”.

This week, the altcoin works much better than both Bitcoin and Ethereum. The added value of the ERC20 tokens and the increasing demand for small cryptocurrencies of investors in the global market has proved that Crypto investors are more confident in betting their money on this market.

Saxo Investment Bank from Danish, with its aim to focus on online trading and investment, has announced in a recent report that the capital inflows from organizations to the Crypto market will lead to a rise in prices for most of these currencies.

This is an interesting opinion that I doubt many people on this forum share. Altcoins generally are just a bigger market, but for most part, bitcoin is the bridge between them. Generally, if you want to buy altcoins, you have to buy bitcoin and then use that bitcoin to purchase the alts. It's hard to find places to buy altcoins directly. I believe this is what makes Bitcoin and Ethereum in particular so large in terms of all of the other altcoins. As long as the system of having to purchase altcoins using bitcoin/eth exists, it is very unlikely that the altcoins will surpass bitcoin, as there will be people putting as much money into BTC as they do alts.
Totally right. Many exchange and trading site uses bitcoin and ethereum as their market of trades so bitcoin and ethereum will never be taken for granted. Eventhough there are good alts to invest in, still bitcoin and ethereum will connect the investors into that specific alts.

i have been saying the same thing for a long time and the beg holders never listen. and unfortunately that is why the altcoin market is like this and also why the altcoins never succeed even those projects that are good, they go unnoticed because of the lot of pump coins that stay on top.

I am absolutely sure that bitcoin and ethereum should be in any investment portfolio apart from altcoins.  This is the basis that will not allow the portfolio to fall heavily in the event of a bearish market.

Meanwhile, both altcoins and Bitcoins have something in common -  it is the cryptocurrency. In my opinion, Bitcoin will control the market as it is more popular than most alts, and its market cap is huge.

No coin will ever beat bitcoin. Its dominance has decreased because we are nearing alt season, but we all know what happens when btc goes on the bull run. In the end, there will be fewer cryptocurrencies than now because of the regulated market and btc will be a well deserved king, as it is now.

I still think Bitcoin will take control of the market probably because some altcoins depend on bitcoins price and would very much vary depending on how much bitcoin is today. Sometimes it pulls down the altcoin if its price is dropping and sometimes it pulls it upward if the price of bitcoin goes up as well.

Easy. Bitcoin all the way. Why? The popularity of Bitcoin literally outweighs the popularity of every other coin by a big factor which is most likely not going to change anytime soon. In fact, I believe this factor will rise even further once Bitcoin gets adopted by majority of the world population driving its value into the stratosphere. Altcoins like Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin etc will also continue to rise in the long term, but they will always stand right behind the king of the crypto world. This is simply my strong faith in Bitcoin and it is completely up to you to decide which is better op.

In my opinion altcoins will take lead sometime in future, because they are designed to be more practical in everyday use.

1. Transaction speed (<1 min for some altcoins, opposed to BTC 10 min),
2. Transaction fee (for altcoins it is very low and for BTC it is 1.4$).

Only advantage of BTC over altcoins is its popularity. To most people when you say "cryptocurrency" or "blockchain" they automatically associate that to Bitcoin.

In general, there is a big difference between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in many things like,  value of  the price, Market cap, Volume. and even their popularity ( users ). Furhtermore, all the market is related to the evolution Bitcoin, so the altcoins are the followers, and it is certain that Bitcoin is the controller of the whole market.

On the other hand, in this period there is little jump in the price of bitcoin ( more than  $ 9000 ), and however, most of cryptocurrencies has jumped  by an acceptable rate, so all of this change in the market is  due to the development of Bitcoin. Plus, that's why the goverment  are always attacking Bitcoin in different ways because they know that if Bitcoin destroy , then all of cyrptocurrencies will  disappear.
