Hi,
I downloaded a wallet and It's actually synchronizing
What is that ?
It takes a lot of time.

and the bitcoin I sent does not appear in the wallet.. is it because the synchronization is not finished ?

thank you..
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

The size of the blockchain is continuously growing, and the reference Bitcoin client requires a complete download of the entire transaction record to function as a wallet. Using a full Bitcoin client supports the operation of the Bitcoin network, but new users may find a “light” client or a web wallet a faster introduction to Bitcoin.
Depending on your network connection and CPU you are running, it may take over a day to download and verify all 12GB of blocks. If you sent bitcoins to an address you created in Bitcoin-Qt, they will be spendable when the download is complete.

What is that ?
You installed the Bitcoin-QT client, it is a full node client, it means that it not only act as a wallet but it also download the FULL blockchain of bitcoin, wich means every transactions done and relay it to other nodes. The bitcoin network is a p2p one, so the full nodes relay all the transactions between them.

Yes, it is downloading more than 10GB of data and verifying them all.

Note that you do not need to have a full node, it is meant for people who want to run it constantly, having a full node when you use it only for 5minutes every some days is pointless. Get Multibit for example, much much quicker, for the same security

Oh and make sure you backup your wallet, have no virus on the pc and learnt about how to securely store your coins!

About the same, I guess laptop HDDs are very slow. I have 50Mbit internet connection so this should not be the issue...

You think so? Recent blocks are heavier and thus slower to get  Grin
