On new roads — An ATHEIOS UPDATE — 7/10/19


Greetings fellow Atheios enthusiasts! The continuing efforts of the Atheios team have been fruitful and we have several developments to announce and celebrate! None of this would have been possible without the support of such a dedicated community.

A new team has taken over
This past June, Atheios was dealt an unexpected and sudden blow: the founding developer left the project which in turn caused a massive disruption and risked the integrity of the chain. Hash rate dropped, exchange value tanked, website and wallet functionality went offline. Within a few hours, several dedicated members of the community stepped forward and formed a team to stabilize the chain by providing hash power and getting additional boot nodes online for network security. In the emergency meetings that followed, it was decided to keep the coin alive and to cut all ties to the previous developer. A new Discord was set up (as the old one was abruptly deleted) and a new web domain was chosen. Soon after, a hard fork was planned to update the monetary policy, update the code base, implement PirlGuard, and make several other changes to the code for future growth. The most astonishing part of this entire ordeal was the amount of community members (old and new) that stepped in to help in any way possible. The team and community motivation for the success of Atheios is obvious to anyone looking at the items accomplished in this short amount of time. Atheios has a strong future with a solid community team that is dedicated to the success of the project.

Block 1,655,555
The scheduled hard fork at block 1,655,555 was completed successfully. PirlGuard is now active and protecting our chain from 51% attacks. The Development fund was increased to 15% of the block reward and the DEV FUND address was changed to one controlled by the Atheios team. Several changes were also made to the old and outdated code to make it more friendly and intuitive for future development. Network
The Atheios network is doing well, especially after the successful hard fork. With the implementation of PirlGuard, we have mitigated some of the risk associated with a 51% attack. Additional changes have further streamlined and modernized the code to be more user friendly and encourage development on the chain. Efforts will continue to fortify the blockchain and encourage future development of applications and integration.

Mining
Hash rate from our dedicated miners has remained stable and is showing signs of growth after the hard fork. All pools were prepared for the fork EXCEPT MINERPOOL. Minerpool was contacted multiple times prior to the fork but no response was received. Minerpool was removed from our recommended pool lists as they are now on the old chain. Any miners at Minerpool mining Atheios WILL NOT BE PAID as they are on the old (dead) chain. We recommend you mine on one of the pools listed below:

Exchanges
STEX and Safetrade exchanges were prepared and ready for the hard fork. Communication was excellent during preparation and they continue to perform as expected. Unfortunately, the Graviex exchange did not recognize the efforts of the Atheios team and did not choose to upgrade in time for the hard fork. Because of this, any coins left on Graviex are now obsolete and not part of the current Atheios blockchain. Graviex did not offer any logical reasoning behind their refusal other than requiring the team to re-apply and pay a listing fee (again). This was not an acceptable situation and the Atheios team requested to be delisted from Graviex. Graviex acknowledged our request and Atheios is no longer affiliated with them.

Website and Explorer
The NEW Atheios website development is completed! As promised, all the features you loved from the old website are being retained along with additional items for your interaction. The website is hosted on the Ether-1 ethoFS Platform. The new website address is https://www.atheios.org.
The Atheios explorer address has been transitioned to the new address, found here: https://explorer.atheios.org/home. No other changes have been made.

Next steps
Code development and upgrades will continue behind the scenes to foster interaction with the blockchain. Additionally, Atheios will continue to explore new ways to provide easy game integration for both mobile and desktop games.
Complete and publish the official white paper that defines our vision and a road map of our bold plans.
The Wiki page is back online (http://wiki.atheios.org/index.php/Main_Page) but does require some updating to reflect the past and current developments. From here we grow
Given the turmoil that Atheios was facing after the departure of the old developer, it is safe to say that the Atheios project is farther ahead than before AND stronger than ever. We have successfully mitigated the damage created, strengthened the blockchain, fortified and updated the code, created a new website and explorer, and created/secured wallet functionality. As a community project, progress and ideas are flowing at a much faster pace. Input and ideas from everyone are welcomed as we ALL work together for the betterment of the Atheios project. ATHEIOS update 8/1/19 — The Road from Here

On Sunday 7/28/19, several members of the Atheios core team had an exciting cross continental voice meeting to strategize and define the future of the Atheios project. There was a variety of discussion with several ideas and contributions from all who attended. The Atheios team has a solid plan for the future and is outlined below.
It was decided that the best course of action was to divide and conquer. The talent available from the community needs to be effectively utilized to move forward and encourage growth. How can Atheios accomplish this? By dividing the team into overlapping work groups that have specific goals to achieve. The work group list is as follows:

BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPMENT
The goal of this group is to address the core code that Atheios is built on. While functional and already updated from the past hard fork, Atheios must remain vigilant and monitor the code for potential improvements. Changes to the code may be required to meet market demand for usage, new improvements and ideas may need to be implemented, etc. Continuing development of the code is necessary to remain competitive and secure in today’s market. This is also the group to discuss ideas for differentiating our code from others to (hopefully) give Atheios unique advantages that will prove beneficial in the future.

INTEGRATION DEVELOPMENT
The goal of this group is to focus on the integration of our blockchain into existing and new platforms. Having a chain that can easily be integrated into application and games is a top priority of this group and exploring how to do so is the primary purpose.

GAME DEVELOPMENT
The goal of this group is to implement and explore Atheios usage in gaming and applications. This group will serve as a test bed for usage and execution of Atheios integration. As a product, Atheios must prove itself as being a viable solution to the problems faced by game developers. Having our own proof-of-concept games can serve to be the leading examples of functionality and application. With that, Atheios becomes a truly functional product that invites outside development and demand.

MARKETING
The goal of this group is to focus on bringing the Atheios name and product to the world. Utilizing all social media outlets, this team will focus on information and explanation with articles and graphics to illustrate the usage of the Atheios blockchain. Further focus will include creating bounties and events to grow the Atheios community which should attract interaction and development.

EXCHANGES
The goal of this group is to focus and expand on the exchange markets for the Atheios coin. Currently our listing on STEX exchange is one of our most valuable assets and we thank them for their support over the past 2 months. Moving forward, Atheios will need to be available in a broader market to serve the public better. People cannot use Atheios if they do not have an easy way to buy Atheios. Developers will not build on Atheios if it is not easily accessible.

WHITE PAPER AND ROADMAP
The Atheios team has been hard at work behind the scenes to solidify the future for this project. For the first time in Atheios history, a white paper is being written and a road map is being formulated. As exciting as these two items are, they will not be published until the working groups above further define and outline their effective strategies for accomplishing their goals. Once completed, the white paper and roadmap can be published. We do not have an exact timeline for their official completion but they are both underway.

ONGOING WORK
The Atheios team is aware of several public websites improperly listing Atheios information. With the change to a new website and new explorer, some public sites have not updated our social and contact information. We have updated our API and contacted several major reporting websites of the changes. This is a slow process and will take some time.

MINING
Mining has remained stable after the fork and has seen average nethash in excess of 4gh. Average weekly nethash is currently 1.5gh. If you are a miner, now is a great time to fill your Atheios bag as difficulty and nethash are low. Remember to spread the hash! Supporting Pools…

Atheios develops construct 3 plugin for HTML5 games
STOCKHOLM - Providing easy access for games to the world of blockchain is the mission of the Atheios development team. Atheios - a blockchain for gaming - is aiming to provide easy on-boarding for gamers and developers alike. A game developer registered on the Atheios property will via a plugin for the Scirra Construct 3 development framework easily incorporate leaderboards and game resolution mechanisms, which will provide players with Atheios.
