IMO DGEX can ask for all the fees he likes. People can choose not to do business there, and in the end that works out due to market movements.

It's the no prior warning to shutting down the logins AND THEN asking for fees that rubs me the wrong way.
That's like locking a customer in a store and refusing to let him out without payment.
That isn't done, or even legal in any scenario.

I would also advise, in the strongest way possible, to release the people who had stored money without fees during a grace period, and then resume business with fees.

I have no problems with the fees per se. That's DGEX's right as a business. Offering people no choice what to do with the funds they have deposited in good faith is a different matter.
I'm pretty sure it isn't legal.

Edit: taking my further comments to the forum Trade section from here.

That is not right, you can't change fees when you own nearly 90M NxT + X BTC of your customers without giving a timeframe to withdrawal with the old rules.

That is what I said...

Hey, something strange happened to me today. After I noticed that I seemed to be on a fork (my block did not correspond to the one on the blockexplorer), I copied my blocks.nxt files to a backup location and then deleted them in my client folder. Then I copied a older blockchain in to the folder (from block 29k) but it did not get any new blocks, even after 10 min of waiting and 20+ active peers. I also tried to download from scratch, but no luck, same thing. Just won't download the block chain Tongue

Any thoughts what I can do to get the block chain to download?
Thanks!

when this happens I blow away the whole nxt folder and unzip the latest ver and then copy over a blockchain backup annd restart.  sometimes ill reboot.  its the only way to be sure (nuke it from orbit)

Tried all of that, already. Deleted everything, rebooted my PC, copied the files from the download folder in my Nxt folder, tried to download from scratch and tried to download with may backup blocks.nxt....
Nothing helped (usually it dose)

What version? 0.4.8+? Catch blocks from block 0.

First I was using 0.4.8 then after this problem accursed I also downloaded version 0.4.9e....both with no luck
And yes, I ryed to catch the blocks from block 0....aswell as from block 29k (my back up )

Though something I do notice now, which is strange, there are no .nxt.back files

Would you kindly suggest how to deal with the missing 800k NXT please? Consider the rate of NXT shoots up significantly, not that I would have 70 BTC extra in my pockets to cover it right now.

DGEX offered people free trading of NXT for 5 weeks.

Agreed, Dgex is dominating the forum right now with a lot of negativity, perhaps we should move this over to the trading forum and focus on the code release.

+1 vote for keeping this thread as technical and positive as possible.

Please take drama (dgex, partial source release, cries of unfairness, cries of under appreciation, discussions of ripple, etc, etc) to an appropriate area of http://nextcoin.org.

RickyJames's open letters should stay. Those are entertaining.  Grin

+2 need to keep this thread contained and informative. Marketing for Ripple gateway should also move to nextcoin or nxtcrypto forum.

NXT price is down 20% due to what dgex did. Do you think I am advocating the peercover gateway to make a few bucks promoting ripple? It is a strategic need for NXT to be able to trade freely. Now on the day of src release, NXT opponents will say the price dropped 20%. This does not bother you? This belongs in some backwater thread?

My interest is in long term NXT valuation. Dropping 20%+ on source code release day kind of makes it hard to spin it in a positive way. If we can establish a market price untainted by giant fees tacked on without warning in any other way, let me know.

I just don't feel nxtchg's server can handle replacing dgex volumes. I also wouldn't want to trade there if any glitch makes my NXT disappear and that's the terms of service.

James

P.S. this whole thing could be an orchestrated attempt to hurt NXT. Does this not bother anybody else?

Well, my NXT software seems to have stopped working - turns up NullPointerException on start and shows zero balance. Anybody knows what to do?

what are the fees associated there?  I cant seem to find any info page on the main site there, just a create account or login links

For now there are absolutely no fees.

But this will probably change when the exchange becomes more popular. In case the fees are introduced, they will be announced beforehand and also anyone who deposited while there were no fees will be able to withdraw with no fees. I will not hold anyone's money hostage.

yeah but a btc withdrawal fee of 1.4% made up for the trading fees. Overall from my trading, you guys probably got like 1btc worth of fees just from me, not to mention all the other users. Its okay that you guys want to raise fees, but doing it overnight and not giving a warning ahead of time is what makes your customers upset. Find a way to have instant deposits and withdrawals if you want to take that big of a fee. Noone wants to pay so much for fees and have to wait a day or half a day to get their withdrawals or deposits.

With increased revenue, you should also increase fundamentals on your site, you don't even have 2FA available for users, and your digit limits are like 8 digits or something. People always have little change left over because they can't withdraw the full amount. Its things like this..

I suggest you give people 3 days to withdraw under old rules if they want to. After that you can charge whatever fees you want, just publish them

Again, no problem with you wanting to recoup losses.

However, no previous warning is just not done.
When did you see these losses? Where they related to the NXT system?
Why haven't you brought them to the attention of the NXT coders, or if you did, why didn't there come a point where you decided "enough, I can't work this way!"?

At this moment, the loss is all on the back of your users. Again, that is like discovering your safe has a hole and locking people in your shop until they make up for the difference.
In a RL situation, that just isn't possible, due to people not accepting it in a very physical way.

This. A grace period is normal.

I tweeted BigVern and he said he is looking into NXT and will consider after the source is released.

looks like you can tweet him again  Wink

This reminds me of the banks. First they do bad business and then they expect their customers to bail them out.

Not really, short term speculation doesn't provide any value, so it's only short term price decrease. As long as there is a network and more functions added to NXT, it'll be fine.
