There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I thought the whole purpose of a purely PoS system is that attacks were not possible this way.

What way?
Using proof of stake

Current DDoS attack has nothing common with proof of stake.

Is it recommended that all nodes set "connectTimeout" and "readTimeout" to 5000?

Actually u should analyze how many "connection timeout" errors u see if "logPeerCommunication" is "true". And find equilibrium between reliability and speed.

How come NXT has been taken off http://coinmarketcap.com/  ?

Some Nxt haters said that Nxt is traded on DGEX only and the price is heavily manipulated. I don't know if they count Nxt Asset Exchange which can be used for such trading. Centralized exchanges is the weakest point of any cryptocoin. Nxt solves this issue by providing a decentralized way but of coz haters will continue to say that "Nxt is not traded on other (centralized) exchanges so it's a scamcoin".

The fact they censored NXT shows that we are winning.  I expected this to happen as such a new network flashes past big old cryptocoins, such as namecoin.

At the same time they hide NXT from their list, they are probably buying up tons.

There must be some other NXT exchanges coming online.  Does anyone know of any?

You guys need to get more Seed nodes up.  We know you can afford it, so get going.

1. More nodes (some guys r working on that)
2. DoS protection (ask ur hoster)
3. Hallmark protection (not activated yet)
4. Switch to binary protocol (saves 10x bandwidth, but increases entry barrier for new programmers)

Why do we need centralized exchanges?

Agree with you 100%, but when is the decentralised exchange going to be released?  And, when it's released, how is it going to avoid DDOS?

As you said, I think you need more seed nodes and improvements to the protocol for it to scale enough to handle the decentralised exchange.

In other words, not only are the attackers losing the war, they technically didn't even win this particular battle.   Wink

Planned by the end of Jan. To DDoS the exchange an adversary must DDoS the whole network.

Edit: Actually, we r waiting for client. Server part is ready.
