As far I understand it there is no incentive to run a node in next? What keeps me from installing 1000 nodes and doing a 51% attack? In Bitcoin there is the expensive POW but how does the nxt network gets secured?

You need to *own* NXT to be able to forge it and the more that you own the more power you have to "forge" so your 1000 (or 100,000) nodes won't be of any help if they don't own any NXT (at least when the Hallmark stuff is in place).

With CIYAM anyone can create 100% generated C++ web applications in literally minutes.

Does anybody know how the consensus works in next?

The same as in Bitcoin.

As far I understand it there is no incentive to run a node in next? What keeps me from installing 1000 nodes and doing a 51% attack? In Bitcoin there is the expensive POW but how does the nxt network gets secured?

You would have to buy 51% of coins and then you would be attacking yourself me thinks.

I'm sorry for asking this again - but I have been stuck at 22962 for hours. I copied the files from the nxtiles.zip but nothing is moving.

I would recommend you don't do this - a decentralized system does not need a centralized blockchain - just stop your client then delete your *.nxt files (and perhaps *.nxt.bak also) and start it again.

It will take a while to update but it should be on the correct chain.

Thanks!

I don't think you need hallmark to protect the network. I'm not sure but hallmarks are just against botnet attacks that try to bring network down and not for someone who wants to fork it via 51%.

Is there a way to be sure your node is aiding the network?  Maybe a populated active peers list indicates this?  If I can be sure, I will set up more nodes.

Should a node maximize CPU, RAM, or bandwidth?

Just keep it running, ur node will push blocks and transactions. Chose bandwidth for private node and RAM+bandwidth for public one.

I downloaded nxt.zip from the link on page 1 and caught up on the right chain in less than 10 minutes.

Is a node anyone running the NXT client? Where are the options for bandwidth and ram+bandwidth and what do they do?

Hey I read laowai80's tutorial and set up a VPS

It was pretty simple

find the steps here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4103726#msg4103726

I went for the double RAM option, so $10 a month.

If anyone wants to fund some, I will GLADLY set up more.

I believe the rate was 3000nxt for three months?

Please let me know. I will publish ips here or share them private

thanks

Just put a node back up on my home PC, seems to be rolling along nicely, even had my 250 missing NXT turn up.

But: because I am Captain Newbie round here (proud NXT supporter for the last 30 hours and counting) could someone have a look and let me know if I am actually running a public node and actually helping out NXT ?
IP is 24.132.70.212, ta very much.

So just because you did NOT trust your 1 BTC to support an idea that was presented publicly and would be open to the first 250 that would show interest it is a scam?   Huh

let me get this straight.. 71 stakeholders get 4.76Million nxt each...  and they want us to send them bitcoins for a tiny piece of the pie??

the market will straighten this out...  you will be lucky if each nxt is worth 10 sotashis

Is a node anyone running the NXT client? Where are the options for bandwidth and ram+bandwidth and what do they do?

My public node was spending 200Mb/s during recent attack. Only coz the hoster limited it to this value.
