I have question regarding accessing your balance using a node that someone else runs.

someone posted: https://nextcoin.info:7875/

I can access this node from any computer in the world and check my balance and transfer money, but is it really safe to do so?

regards

so you leave your wallet file with password traces on someone elses PC who was able to set up the clinet in the first place and made it available to the public.
Everything about it screems not safe.

CFB, how long does it take for a drifting node coming to the main branch ? Could it drift forever ?

Yes, it can drift forever if chain was forked 720 blocks ago. Try to relaunch client but don't delete current blockchain.

Yes you can, but it's always recommended to use your localhost NXT.
If you absolutely have to use someone else's, use https://ip:7875 secure connection only.
Still, it's best to use your own NXT running locally.

23081   15035%

splitting again?Huh
That's where I have become stuck again too.

Add me to "wellKnownPeers" (or "testNetWellKnownPeers") in your "nxt/webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml" and restart.
I'm on 23123 now

Finally I set up server @ 54.249.101.252 and enabled hallmark.
Tips for paying it are welcome @ 2345678935869777788

Add these to well known peers as well:

95.85.46.164
162.243.214.68

Are these approved by CfB?
I think we shouldn't add anything arbitrarily there.
It could make it worse.

These are my VPS servers that have the current block chain

NXT VPS Server Donations can be sent here: 6044921191674841550
At the end of each month I will donate some of them back to the community.
This is separate from my main wallet so you can keep track of them. I will keep them in there and only use them for hosting.

That would never be same unless your passphrase was encrypted in .js *before* it was sent to the server (and you couldn't trust that to be the case without a plugin like blockchain.info uses).

I have added a wiki page on creating hallmarks, and updated the VPS setup page to suggest people do this.  I have also added an FAQ section on hallmarks.

I admin the Nxt Wiki at http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/ Please support my work by donating to Nxt account #1234567740944417915

they could drift off, and drag some other nodes with them Smiley
better don't add anything to that section.

When I open my client my latest block is 22747.  This is a pretty old block.

Will the client automatically update at some point or am I in some sort of fork that I can't seem to get out of. This has been happening for almost 24 hours.

Eventually it will find the longest chain, but u may be isolated from the rest of the network.

Currently I'm no

Noone should approve well-known peers, Nxt is decentralized. That's why such peers are set in web.xml, not hardcoded into software.

CfB - I deleted the blockchain - and it updated until 23081 where it is now stuck again.

So the stalling at this block has clearly nothing to do with DDoS (otherwise how did I get there so quickly?).

I would really appreciate it if you guys admitted there is a *bug* with the software that has nothing to do with any sort of attack and just fix the bug.

You say that because 2 other people posted no problems (guess we have a pretty small "majority" then)?

Sorry, but the network is under attack, this is not a bug. Look at uploaded volume after 10 mins of working:

So why does this not happen in Bitcoin (or Litecoin for that matter)?

Litecoin had an army of miners the second the network started.
