i don't like it, not one bit.  There are enough darknet services now. why try to reinvent the wheel?

We need to decentralize everything, includes website.
but we also need to protect us and keep one control democratically and if it's possible, one way for definitely remove one site.

+1

We need to figure this out.

Because the current wheel is more of a rectangle than a circle. Do you know how easily the NSA can impersonate websites? The answer is very, very easily. Torbrowser is really slow, but incredibly secure, the internet is incredibly fast but incredibly insecure, https is absolutely useless when the government can hijack any connection they want. I personally want a happy middle-ground that isn't painfully slow.

Childporn was never my intention. I just want normal services like email and instant messaging without government spying.

I think we can all agree this is not the intention.
Let's keep that clearly in front of us Smiley

The reaction here also proves my point of how potent that one word is.

Decentralizing everything is kind of the idea behind Nxt.

if providing a platform for child porn is the purpose of NXT, I am out

There are two separate things here..

1, using NXT aliases to provide website redirection so instead of http://ebay.co.uk... you can type nxt:ebay or something like that and the browser will know what to do. This I think was already prototyped, this is useful and this I support the ability for a browser to recognise NXT <data> and pass this to a plug in to do something useful - this gives things like NXT aliases value..

2, Duplicated features of the dark net inside NXT itself knowing to capture criminal business I am flatly opposed to, I would not understand needing to complete with this existing technology, and I would seek the opposite - how do we stop NXT being used for this.

BUT In this conversation don't throw out number 1 because its been linked to number 2

Are there some people left who're NOT dumping their Nxt? I see a lot of whales want out.

Why exactly is it?

show me more than 2 dumping whales in last 6 days:
http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=10715382765594435905
- everyone is buying

This is what scares me. I noticed this too, that this price decrease has been done by only 2 guys and about 3M NXT in last 10 days. These 2 guys have still 60M together.

I hope other whales don't follow these two.

Why ? We need big whales to spend their money so that the coin is more fairly distributed. Best would be if this is done via forum or private deals though, so that it doesn't affect exchanges.

Funny how one day people are complaining about "Whales" sitting on their NXT, and the next day they are complaining that the "Whales" are putting NXT into circulation. Cheesy

My thoughts exactly. The price upside for NXT for those with enough patience is massive.

NXT market cap is now under 40 Million USD - that is cheap by any measure. We all know NXT is one of only a small handful of serious competitors to bitcoin. If NXT had bitcoin's market cap today 1 NXT would cost almost 8 USD, and you can buy them today for under 4 cents. Think of the long-term potential, think of the talent working on the software, and relax.

The devs working on NXT aren't going to stop because the price has dropped. This is the time for average people following this thread to increase their stake. This is like when bitcoin was under 1 USD.

Don't focus on the price, and IMO the marketing will take care of itself in the short-term. Focus on the development of the core software. AFAIK the software development is all proceeding in the background by talented people who have sufficient NXT in their pocket to be 'motivated' for a good while yet.

Are there any people 'critical' to the success of NXT who don't have a big enough stash to stay motivated? If there are they should speak up ASAP so the community can work something out. Those looking for wages will probably be disappointed, but I'm sure critical people to the success of NXT can be accommodated. The whales could agree to sell NXT to key community members at a fixed price in the future once the price gets over a certain point. For example, a big stakeholder could agree to sell 100,000 NXT to a critical NXT activist at 10 cents USD each any time in future. That person then has a 'potential' stake in NXT that maybe they don't currently have. They might exercise their 'option to trade' when 1 NXT=1USD, so in effect they would get 90,000 NXT. I imagine this proposal might appeal to 'active' members of the NXT community who feel they aren't being compensated enough for their efforts.

As for the marketing IMO NXT is well placed, and once the software and infrastructure is finished all those intrigued by crypto currency but with doubts about bitcoin will go searching for alternatives themselves, and they will find NXT (and etherium, emunie, ripple, mastercoin) easily - we just need to have easy to understand material ready, and I think that's being worked on now too.

But for now we should make sure the key developers have enough NXT to stay focused on finishing the software.

Will everybody be able to build a parallel chain next to Nxt?

According to CIAM Open it will not be difficult.

[EDIT] So when it comes from him, no no probably not everybody  Cheesy

Ciyam is actually working on the parallel blockchain project along with AT for Nxt. You guys should go to his website to show some support. https://ciyam.org/open/?cmd=view&data=20140228075704934000&ident=M100V124&chksum=276a46ea

I hate talking about these things...

When we have parallel blockchains, I think anyone that runs a node can choose which slave chain to support. So I think things like child porn never will happen, because no one would support chains that hold things like that.

So please stop talking about it, it will never happen!

OK, I've dragged myself away from InfCom, BTC conferences and my secret plans just to visit the firehose thread.....and what do I find:

Are there some people left who're NOT dumping their Nxt? I see a lot of whales want out.

Why exactly is it?

Take a look at the top 60 accounts. Do you know how many NXT is that for 60 people?

Well, to many. Price is going down constantly last couple of weeks. Many people are leaving this thread and this community as you can see in last week or so. Stakeholders see all this as well, they are also getting little scared about the future so they are cashing out some of their NXT.

Unfortunately all of this is a snowball effect. I am afraid that if we don't get some fresh new cash soon that it might get ugly. Maybe I am wrong though. Actually, I hope I am wrong.

Far too much negativity, is what I find.
I think that some people have been very over-optimistic about how NXT is going to develop and expect it to take over the world inside a couple of months. Well, sorry, not going to happen.
Everyone who has properly looked into it can see the huge potential of NXT, we need to simply keep on rolling: developing, releasing, promoting.
At a certain moment all of that effort, all of those amazing features, all of that promotion will pay off and NXT will start to snowball on upwards. Maybe this snowball will happen when we release AE,  maybe it'll happen 3 months later with the next feature set release.
We can't predict with any certainty when that snowball moment will happen, but if we start to back out and fold our hands, it certainly won't happen.
So: HODL,  work yer asses off for NXT and it'll all come good in the end. Duck and run.....u get nothing, or close to nothing.

Talking of new features:
Allow me to introduce myself, I am an early investor in NXT, and have been floating around various community forums since november under different names. I know C++, Java, PHP, Javascript, Html, CSS, SQL, Python, and HDL (Hardware Description Language).

I haven't been around for the past two months because of health reasons, but now I want to contribute in any way I can.

I think if we integrate application level URI schemes (i.e. nxt://, as someone suggested earlier) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/aa767914(v=vs.85).aspx, with a distributed storage parallel block chain to host websites -- the value of nxt would go to 2 BN in about a week.

In fact a simple executable with root privileges could reprogram browsers without any user effort.

Thoughts? If enough people are interested I can fund this project out of my own pocket.
It's a good idea. I think it should happen. Like to see a more detailed proposal, including costs and time to live.....
To the guys worried about illegal content and the perception that NXT is facilitating criminal activities: set up an internal reporting system for possible illegal content, one that everyone can access. Anything truly out of order, will get reported.
(and by out of order, the only thing my personal morality has a problem with is hurting/exploiting kids, vulnerable people and animals, pretty much anything else is fine with me.) This needs more working out, but has a lot of potential.

This doesn't:
Nxt will feature two pages in the book called Cryptocurrency "The Alt-ernative"

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483187.new#new

Please donate to the below Nxt wallet address in order to help fund this project:

14081530087791934508
Please dont. This is an update of the old business listing scam. "Give us money, we'll put u in a book that no-one will ever see."
Buy the book when it comes out, if u need to support this idea.

And lastly:

after I contacted admin he asked me: "Is the NXT community interested in the products we offer?"

http://saltsworldwide.com/

are we interested? to buy salt by nxt? I use salt quite often

Lol, no.

WTF ? Someone wanted to use NXT for payments and u say no?
Who cares if it's salt, pepper, car parts, stickers or BF4 keys: it's all trade, its all good.
I would have expected a slightly more positive response......

Right, i'm off to my bed.
Keep the faith, stop whining, and keep on working to make NXT better.

I still dont know if the salt is for bath or eating, but that video made me realize that salt must be so cool:
http://saltsworldwide.com/salts-worldwide-aboutus/

Now I just need to find that chick and hire her from some pricerr site Cheesy

I really appreciate you work in promoting Nxt, but as a marketing guy, you should better focus on bringing in new investors and pushing Nxt on bigger sites like Yahoo Financials or Bbc or whatever, rather than organizing a Salt<->Nxt gateway.

Simple answer, NO

if this is possible and nxt it does not the competence will do it

I highly doubt the competition would do this without building in some way of not being shot down by a smear campaign.
We may not like it, but "child porn" and "terrorism" are surefire ways of killing appeal immediately.
Doesn't have to be true, it just needs to be mentioned.

So instead of stuffing our heads in the sand, if we want to do this, you need a plan on how to answer those questions when they are asked.

"People are free to do as they like" is not the answer that will help.

Edit: so, are there other answers to that question?

ok, i agree
we must to look for solutions to this

We should definitely pay attention to the possible bad uses af this, and discuss it. Because it WILL be misused, and I wish I was smart enough to stop it. And to judge where to draw the line, if I could. That said, I don't think dark forces should stop this initiative.

How about automatically blocking those sites via community voting?

Edit: as I see someone else already mentioned this.
