yes i definitely see the value proposition. we really could fill a niche and become something big by convincing game developers to build nxt into their in game economies. it even offers them a really sweet model for monetization. let nxt come in for free but take a cut on the way out.

Nodecoin


Nodecoin is a proof of concept coin and the first coin to be built on top of the Nxt Platform. After initial testing, full implementation was postponed to allow other higher priority projects to progress and allow a full discussion.

The concept: Nodeminer, the computer program supporting Nodecoin, runs alongside your Nxt Forging Account. For each Block it reports the Peers it is connected to back to the Nodecoin pool server. The pool server then tabulates the results and allocates Nodecoins based on the number of times your Node was listed as a Peer. The more people connected to your Node, the more you get reported to the pool server and the more Nodecoins you get. The Nodeminer would also get an extra share bonus for having reported to the pool server.

Nodecoins cannot be mined and only one share is allocated per IP address/Nxt Account. There are 100 Nodecoins distributed per block. Nodeminer can embed a NXT health monitor, which will allow the detection of when the network is in a fork, or under attack. Nodeminer has potential as a method for users to sell their computer resources in exchange for Nodecoins. There are many things that a user's computer is uniquely qualified to do such as decentralized source of CPU, bandwidth and storage.

re: Nxtopia --

It's no longer called Nxtopia, even internally (we have a different development name).

I want to share some basic stuff without stealing much thunder here from an impending announcement. To rewind, I didn't expect much when I first wrote that Nxtopia post back in February. Thought I might receive half-a-dozen emails from well intentioned people with a lot of enthusiasm and little skill (I was subconsciously projecting my own deficiencies, I think!). What really happened was I received about a half-a-dozen emails from enthusiastic gamers with Grade A industry-level talent.

The bulk of the game logic has been scripted out. The two gentleman that have blocked these out have done an amazing job. We have another gentleman involved on the story side of things as it affects the day-to-day gameplay mechanics; again, his OCD-like attention to both the minutiae and "30,000 foot view" is amazing. Finally, we have a gentleman who has done a masterful job of handling our various personalities and keeping us loose ('fun', 'motivated') but focused (business with a bottom line -- deliverables). This gentleman will be the public face of the game and serve as community manager.

You all know these guys -- they're forum members here and at BCT, they're great to work with and very talented.

The outstanding issue now is funding. The numbers have been crunched and what's required for a group of developers and artists. We have two financing models, and our community manager is looking at the feasibility of both this week. Our finance meeting on Sunday went well; once our financing model is chosen, we will post a teaser page (external) and start coding (internal). Also, once the finance model is selected, our community manager will be introduced and he will begin to suffer the slings and arrows (mostly praise, though!) of hungry gamers here and elsewhere.

I can only say 'information is coming soon.' We've peaked the hardest part, I think, which is the planning... like Operation Barbarossa, it's the mud and quagmire and muck that grinds things to a halt.

Our community manager will chime in on this, my hope is within a week, hopefully sooner!
