Are new currencies still needed, or just new tokens?

There are already a lot of currencies circulating i don't think we need any more new ones not unless there are new technologies coming in. It would help a lot but if bot then why would it be necessary. The tokens are mostly used for utility so yes they are necessary. It only needs to find the target consumers or users to help promote the usability of the token.
