Be aware when using Google search "especially for the zombies who clicks the first result when searching," I searched for "Bitcoin wallet" and pressed the first result. www.cken.site/Blockchain/info‎ which leads to a page similar to blockchain.info wallet. Try it yourself

Indeed a phishing site and if you are a complete noob just fully relying on google search then you would end up on being victimized with this one.

Further on,when i test out i didnt see such similar thing on my browser, instead it shows this one.

If I understand it correctly, it is a paid advertisement. Google usually puts their paid ads on top of the regular organic search results. The problem is that often these ads are not really checked, not by a real person anyways. Even if a real person did check it, I doubt they could have the expertise to assess Bitcoin related content.

And the way these ads are displayed depends on a number of factors: keywords, language, country, previous search history, etc. Probably that's why sometimes they show and sometimes don't.

Thanks for the heads up. There is absolutely no doubt that this site was created for the sole purpose of luring people into clicking into what they think is the legitimate blockchain.info wallet, but in reality, is really an imposter that is trying to get your money.

You should never click the google ads when you are searching up crypto related companies, including wallets, as a rule.

Most of the ones that actually do advertise with google are impersonators. The best thing to do is either click on the actual top result(not from ads), or just save the sites you frequent using a bookmark instead.

They are paid ads. And because of that we can easily fight them.
Google has its tools to give feedback on such ads and, although I didn't use them, I believe that indeed such links should be reported.
A start should be here: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/176378?hl=en

I've tested it out too and went to every link that's there when I typed "Bitcoin wallet".

First three ones are ads and none were for the actual bitcoin wallet. Second one was some kind of a blog, Third was legit blockchain.info, and the rest are just some wallets(apps) or more blog posts.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

I remember users reporting the exact same attack for bitaddress, multiple thousand dollars worth of Bitcoin were stolen in this attack. The people that operate these websites seem to have no conscience. It also seems that Google does not check the content of their adwords publishers manually, which is really disgusting. I guess the only thing we can do is reporting these phishing websites manually.

To be fair, i doubt any Google employee have any knowledge about Cryptocurrency and it's services. So it's obvious they wouldn't know whether the advertised website/product is scam or not.
But i think the real reason is they don't want let their user enjoy decentralized system (which is opposite of their service) or/and don't care whether the advertised website/product is scam or not

Only massive manual report by users can solve this problem.

No, definitely not. Only certain publishers (or ads) are checked manually. I think they don't have the manpower to check them all. From what I can tell, certain ads get triggered when certain keywords are present in them. These ads are then put on hold until someone checked them. Given Google's recent announcement that they will effectively ban cryptocurrency ads on their platform, it's really a surprise that they do nothing. This is something they can implement easily.

You are right, but I think that they have some sort of list with websites that they compare to the submitted websites, because I don't see this happening for banks. Although I noticed that they changed some of the meta data like title and description, that might be the reason why these websites get through the screening.

That's why I don't really trust Google ads because it's not filtered (legit, scam, phishing site), especially if it's about crypto. Those who do not pay so much attention to the search results would probably be a victim.

I remember someone posted a thread before with a similar situation. Though he was not searching for a bitcoin wallet, but an exchange. There's nothing wrong in using google to look for a site, just be cautious and always double check the URL before putting log in credentials.

Please report any Phishing page that you'll see in Google search results at https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/?hl=en

But they're banning cryptocurrency-related ads so there's no way that none of their staffs had no knowledge about it. And actually, bitcoin or not, cryptocurrency or not, the process of determining if something's a scam/phishing should be fundamentally the same. Sadly, same as the guy above, I believe the screening is not done manually but yeah there should be some special cases.

Quote

Could be, since they are getting a lot of money through this ads. Up until now google still continues to ban bad ads/publishers and change their policies as it's their way of countering this, although I believe that there should be something more they can do aside from that.

At any rate, If someone have been a victim of this, he shouldn't blame google entirely since he's also at fault for not paying attention and blind trust is always a NO NO

That's the only way to deal with this trash. I have been reporting plenty of these phishing sites since last year, and the more people report them, the sooner Google will remove them.

I have even sent emails to the domain registrars to explain that the domains hosted/registered within their platform are being abused. In this case again, the more people doing so, the sooner these scums will be whooped.

The domains are likely registered with fake details, but that's not really a problem since the main concern is to have these domains seized, and thus taken down. One less phishing domain means less potential victims.

Newbs really need to be taught to stay clear of web wallets. If for keeping small amounts, maybe ok. But for your whole savings you should be controlling your own private keys. That was what cryptocurrencies were developed for.

Yes, google advertising is automatic unless someone complains about the advertisement then they will review manually and remove the advertisements if it is not as per their guidelines.

I think google need to do some improvements on these things because most people believe in google search results and click first few links only and not many people will browse through the complete page or second-page results.

It looks like that link has been already deleted.

I'm sure this has been talked a lot of times in this forum, you can find a lot of topics regarding the security of Online Wallet on Newbie & Beginner sections.
Not sure why there are still users who store a large amount of coins on online wallet.

Google Adsense is very quick on handling Phishing Report because they knew their service will be misused like this a lot.
Then again, there are hundreds of Phishing ads created every day.
I wouldn't be surprised if they are using bot to create a new Phishing Ad automatically the second their old ad were taken down by Google.

This is also why I recommend Ad-Block, no more potential Phishing on Google.

N number of sites available in online like this mate. You need to be careful while logging into your wallet or exchange site. I see phishing sites show top with the adwords campaigns works. If you missed to find the correct site many times.
At least pin on bookmark the correct URL when the time you are signing up to the wallet.

I personally lost some bitcoins while accessing to the blockchain wallet once. After that to till date. I have all bookmarked in my desktop mate.
