Still not enough at the current price to make mining profitable again for most people I guess, so I expect higher drops until the price either rebounds or settles down (then difficulty will reset to whatever level is reasonable). See the graphs in my signature for comparison.

I am at least glad to see it doesn't appear to be heading for an increase again!
However, since I have added power this round that confirms that that at lease that many people have quit, whatever their reason. I will probably mine even if it does become unprofitable in the same way I used to crunch numbers for BOINC projects, however, if I am not making money at it, I won't be breaking my neck to get miners back on when they crash or have a power loss!

I would think that as people see the difficulty dropping, some will likely take advantage of that and order more GPU's, which would then probably cause a small increase on the next retarget.
I'm certainly not pulling out - I'm only hashing away with 950mh/s at the moment but by the time we hit the next difficulty i should be at atleast 2.4gh/s, so a drop in difficulty will go down nicely and i'll probably build up to 3.3gh/s by the next difficulty change.

You really should think about quiting mining. it is a dumb waste of a perfectly good video card and there are cool games coming out like the new battlefield and you are probably going to want to check that out, besides the cops already think you are growing pot in there, it is only a matter of time. Really I think your best bet is to get out of mining.

To be honest, even if there is a difficultly drop, it won't be a 50% drop as we've basically seen with bitcoin's value. There's no guarantee we'll even recover (remember, we haven't hit $30/coin since that crash). Pretty sad indeed.

It's still profitable, at least for most people in US paying 11 cents per watt. I see no reason to stop mining.

power supplies like video cards, need a period of resting to perform at optimal efficiency. Some say if you let them cool down for 2 weeks by keeping them off and in your freezer, you will get 3x the hash rate for a month. I would try it but i care about polar bears

This is really real. My cousin's aunt's nephew did it to their video card and it got an extra 150 MH/s!

Also, freezers are terrible for polar bears because they use kilowatts of energy.

That's one of the saddest things I've seen. That poor bear... And it's unlikely many people will just stop mining. As long as theres a little trickle of profit.. there will be mining for it.

Nice logic... I'm sure people are running to add capacity to the network now that it's going to drop 8%... Who cares that the price of bitcoins has fallen like 30% since the last difficulty. You can get more coins now!!! They aren't worth as much as before the difficulty started dropping, but still... More coins!!!

I'm not going to add any more miners for awhile but If you think bitcoins is going to be successful in the long run there's nothing wrong with this thinking. Just don't expect good profits short term.
