Just a reminder to one and all, before taking Rpietila too seriously. He had predicted a bitcoin valuation of several hundred thousand USD by the end of the year. That was during his manic phase, just before he was involuntarily hospitalized. He is now likely in a depressive phase of his bipolar affective disorder and things are therefore bound to look gloomy from his perspective. Or else he just wants to buy cheaper bitcoins... which is fine

He deleted this post and several others from his thread. He's just trying to manipulate peoples mind.

...He's just trying to manipulate peoples mind.

everyone's always doing that. I think individuals have a responsibility to themselves to think independently. Often they choose not to, ironically so they have someone else to blame for their mistakes.

If he is a massive troll, don't feed him.
If he has bipolar disease, especially don't feed him.

He's not a troll. Just an investor.

Which means you should trust his prophecies exactly as much as everyone else's around here: Not at all.

He's very mentally ill. That's what he is.

Its price is not a very relevant factor in its adoption....

He has every right to delete off-topic posts on a self-moderated thread. Just because the Haikko episode caused too much stress and resulted in mental breakdown, doesn't mean he is not mathematically gifted.

Wow. Some ignorance in here. If any one of you thinks you are 'sane' then I have news for you.

As it happens, rpietila has made an interesting contribution with his posts.  But for the sake of argument, lets assume the guy never made any contribution at all.  He still deserves to be treated with the same kindness we treat anyone who gets sick.

Instead we have two threads abusing someone for being sick in 1 day.  Its almost like girls at school picking on the nerdy kid isn't it?

You have a right to say what you like and hold your own opinions, but I don't think bringing up people's illnesses and creating a thread to discredit someone (no matter how foolish, or 'manipulative' their posts) is neither worthwhile, or honourable.

There are plenty of people here who are not necessarily what the majority of people would describe 'normal', and they are what makes this forum interesting.

If you dislike someone's opinions or views you can ignore them.

Don't get me wrong - there people here who piss me off.  However, I would not sink to this level and encourage the discussion of their personal health issues in this way.

I have found rpietila occasionally arrogant, sometimes laughable, but also very informative at times. I take a lot of it with a pinch of salt, sure - but I don't like seeing him picked out for vilification.

Live and let live - ignore and debate, but why bother with this sort of public attack?

+1

He might be peculiar or arrogant at times, or come up with rather extreme predictions, but many of his posts have been worth reading much more than the  majority of other posts you can find here. You don't need to agree with what he's saying, and he might have an agenda for some of the things he's posting here -- but who hasn't? We're in a trader forum! Manipulate and be manipulated. Always better to be very cautious when reading other people's trading recommendations.

I'm glad to see that his health has improved over the last months. No reason to pick on him.

Edit: Anyway, a thread that has a username in its title is wrong by default.

Risto has made many thought-provoking contributions to bitcoin, including his SSS divestment plan, his real-bills concept, and the interesting super-node idea.  I always look forward to reading his posts and following his threads.

Risto is walking the steep mountain ridge of genius: below to his left lay the mundane valleys of conformist-sanity, and a few strides to his right--the cliffs of insanity.  From his elevation I think he can sometimes see things that were blocked from my view.  I appreciate the opportunity to listen to his argument and then debate politely on the wide range of topics he is able to discuss.

These personal attacks are kinda disheartening, no?

Protip: don't argue with someone in a thread they moderate.
