Chatbox here in forum

Is it possible to have a chatbox here in our group? For a small chitchat and simple questions. But there will be a requirements to prevent spams/trolls, a member should be atleast a Jr. member with merit to join the chatbox. And there will be a moderator that can give negative attitude rating on the member that violates chatbox rules and can lead to ban if it reaches a certain limit.

You only have to look at the spam mega threads to see what could happen. On the other hand, it would probably be ignored if you couldn't display signatures, or earn merits.

Maybe you couldn't display signatures or earn merit points, but you could by all means flood the chatbox into oblivion with links to malicious websites. Mods are already busy as it is and it would be near impossible to keep up with all the potential action in the chatbox (and leaving it unmoderated would be a bad idea). I don't think we need a chatbox here.

I personally do not like chatting unless I know someone in person. For group chatting, you can see some of the Facebook groups chat, are flooding with links and links. It's annoying to me.
 
Not sure what others will say but to me, I am ok with PM and posting threads, I even enabled receiving PM from newbie. So it's open for everyone.

I voted NO because it seems like the "cons" clearly outweigh the "pros" of implementing this.

PROS
-users would be more engaged
-additional feature that adds value to the forums
-could be a source of revenue to help maintain/upgrade the forum (colors, special icons, and other monetization techniques..)

CONS
-could be prone to SPAM
-could be used to perpetuate more SCAMS
-would require human moderation almost 24/7
-could bog down server hardware
-probably no decent conversations would ever take place due to the unstructured format (possible topics: how i join bUonti? u suk! giv me moni)

In my opinion,the current system is going on very good.I dont think,it nee any kind of chat-box.If you have any problem,create the thread related to that an you will get no. of suggestion for that.What we are doing is like a chatbox.

There are following problems in live chatbox:

1.you have to buy software for that,
2.we have to hire manpower to maintain that,
3.Pop-ups are annoying,
4.Not all users will like it,
5.Prank chats,

Further more:

    21% of customers want live chat(NOT ENOUGH)
    2% want social media.

Because members of this forum or community have a high privacy and they dont want to be bothered by millions of chats everyday especially admin's/mod's/ and others.

The idea will just cause SPAM.

Well, maybe a chatbox that only allowes the Heroes / legendaries and Full members to chat. MAYBE then it'd work. Or maybe there could be a Merit gate as in you require at least XX amounts of merit to be able to use the chat box. The Merit system is already weeding out the spammers that way the forum would get it's very own dedicated troll box.
I miss a proper troll box ever since btc-e went down.

Voted yes since having a chatbox would be a great feature. I think it would be a better alternative than the current private message, yet there's one thing that bothers me. Using chat box is not very forum-like, but then again, if it would make people lives easier, why not?

Seriously you need a chatbox on a forum? It is ridiculous. If you want to fend off trolls,create a self-mod topic and have your discussions. You can make your own rules in some threads and if users don't follow your rules in that,they can even get banned apparently. Seriously,ditch the chatbox idea.

Why not replace a Personal Messages with a some kind of chat? The one with any kind of notifications (preferably also with sound). Chatting with someone could be really painfull here so asking someone for telegram sometimes is the only way to communicate efficiently.

In spam megathreads  spammers are trying to boost their posts. In a section chat they won't be forced to do that but imho it will be full of different ICO spam how it happens in different telegram groups. PMs and some private chats is probably the safest thing.

I started a private chat box for a few merit awarders and DTs. It is useful to have somewhere private for a few members to discuss some of the board features. It isn't used a great deal though.

I agree to you sir. In addition chatting can be dangerous to your account, there are so many people uses a flowery words to not to spam but to SCAM others. Chatbox in forum is not a good idea.

Why? Messages its better for me than chatbox, it will bring more spammer. Even it need to become jr.member and must have merit, its still not good. Based on what i read on reputation section, there's a lot older (or we called senior member) got caught because having a lot alts and some of them can easily trade merit or send merit to their alt's and boom, spammer has spawn on chatbox!
Even they get negative trust, they can still spamming, even if they got ban by moderator or admin, they still have another account to spam or create new one.
Why we need chatbox on forum? People just easily start discussion on chatbox and discussion thread will be useless or not touched by any member.

It's useful for private conversations between trusted sub-groups. These can be unmoderated, and not on public display.
