With Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner the notes recommend AMD drivers 15.12 or 16.3.2.
In 2018 are these still the best AMD drives to use or should we use newer versions of AMD drivers?

For the current Polaris cards stick with the latest Adrenaline drivers. There is no point in mining Equihash with AMD cards. You are much better off mining Ethash or Cryptonight which is more profitable. Even with 2GB cards, Equihash would not be my first choice.

As Vann said, new gen cards better using the newest driver, but old cards still getting the best performance using old driver. My AMD R9 series (290, 290X, 390, 390X) getting the best performance using 16.9.2 driver.

the good time for Zcash was for a limited moment only ( for amd cards) when it was started.. but now, there is no point in that, also soon bitmain will start to ship its new equihash asics which will ruin the diff if there would be no reaction from developers.. so it is better to mine ETH, while you can..

For R9 Fury 3GB Fiji GPU only works 15.12, another driver will get 0 H/s. For R9 300 and 200, I recommend AMD Blockchain Drivers, best performance for all algos. The problem I you have a rig with R9 Fury with 15.12 driver, I will be great for equihash, but for ethash you will get a low hashrate due this driver does not have DAG fix. For RX 400 and 500  Blockchain driver or Adrenalin.

Thanks for replies. I am mining Bitcoin Private so this is my miner for now. Have RX470s. We will see about those new ASICs and possible forks ala Monero. Smiley AMD Blockchain driver has not served we well. Seems they only put out a beta version and then walked away from it.

The AMD blockchain driver was a patch released to fix the Ethash Dag file growth issue that caused Polaris cards to lose hash rate with every new epoch once the Dag file reached over 2GB. Starting when the Crimson compute drivers were released for Windows 10 v1709, AMD incorporated the fix from the blockchain driver.

If you want to accumulate BTCP, with your cards you would be better off mining a more profitable and stable coin like ETH and converting it or the other coin. By doing so you can accumulate more coins than by mining a less profitable coin directly.
