I think Datacoin has very interesting properties, also I find interesting gridcoin and curecoin. Maybe there will be more coins like that, using the capabilities of the P2P to do something more than checking security. Also there are the Offerings to Cthultu, just in case the net needs a reboot.

Assuming we're going from start of next year to end...

1) FTC (if not, probably won't survive - I see it as a thrive or die kind of situation)
-Bitcoin goes here-
2) LTC
-Or maybe Bitcoin goes here...-
3) Maybe Quark or Anoncoin... I don't know enough about them. Quark seems fairly popular in circles outside my own.
4) I'd guess a fair chance of survival but doubt they'll grow in "market cap": Doge, Peercoin & Primecoin... Namecoin may continue to drag itself along if devs support. Maybe Sexcoin, but I don't follow that sector...
5) Rest, I either know absolutely nothing about or don't see still being traded in a year's time. I seriously doubt more than ~1/3 of poll options will be traded on an exchange at next Christmas.

A lot of this hinges on what happens with BTC in the next year, too. CoinJoin is very appealing, possibly reducing transaction fees, blockchain bloat, and improving privacy.... something else I really, really need to thoroughly read about. CoinJoin and similar improvements on Bitcoin may take away significantly from the practical advantage of LTC/FTC.

Decentralized nature of BTC becoming compromised, I see as a factor, too, especially closer to the end of the year. I don't see mining centralization being much of an issue - moreso node centralization. Regulations are always a concern... still waiting to see where the idea of Smart Property goes (could revolutionize money even moreso than when Bitcoin was released)... interested in seeing where the idea of "coin as a casino" goes... Multi-currency wallets could be a game-changer, possibly greatly increasing interest in altcoins.

Nxt is not an altcoin, but a 2nd generation crypto-currency. It's not build on top of Bitcoin, but has it's completely own source code. Nxt will be the next big thing, so better check it out Smiley

1. Doge to the Moon Cheesy I am serious. It will go up in waves of moonraces...
2. Nxt - no inflation... it is sentenced to success like real gold.
3. eMunie - bit potential for nice start
4. Different altcoin cpu-only based which can repeat promotional success of Dogecoin.
5. Maybe something from top8 just because being high in top near BTC and LTC.

Dead Cat will be trully dead at start of new year. Die already!  Grin

All coins minable by GPU and soon with ASIC and without big enough community also will go down because of mining inflation. Whole new year is long. Some algos can be broken, mining will me more efficient, new cloud hostings will try to repeat success of d...n.com. A lot of new coins will come. New coins will much more often fail if community won't get bigger in pace of new coins commings. But i have no idea what will happen when coinmarketcap will reach 100 coins...  Huh

I made 10x ROI in three days with Dogecoin. And I certainly wasn't the only one. Joke or not, its growth has been insane.

Yeah, it has helped DOGE tremendously to have started as a joke. I guess that's called Marketing Smiley

I think 1 of the reasons Doge has had success is because of the flood of noobs to the Alt Coin section since the Nov. Bitcoin run up. Right time, right place to launch a funny, cute innocent looking coin.
