Before investing in any ICO I often deepye research the project. My advice is to pay attention whether the projects has a ready-made product as it is some kind of guarentee that it is not a scam as well as  long termed activity before ICO. It is an indicator that team goes stright to thir goal and will not give up.

Not just your money is at risk with these fraud ICO's but your own identity and your documents for the compliance of the KYC, most of the projects these days required their investors, participants even the bounty hunters to comply and submit their own identity and scanned documents to have the contribution to the token sale, must be extra cautious for participating in a project, research, observe and look for the legitimacy of the ICO, there are a legit and a scam projects so beware and avoid those frauds.

Nowadays it's really hard to know if the ICO is scam. Because some of them are really organized that investors will fall for its marketing strategy. But one thing is for sure if the project dev are not active in there social media and hiding there faces in some cartoons images in their team photo. Then it's a very high chance the project is a scam.

So it really is very good when the project already has a finished product that is already working. This is a guarantee that the project will work in the future and will not be fraudulent.

Well One way is to invest in projects like Blockchain Hotels ... Checking out their web page and acknowledging the level of dedication and quality of the content is a sure way to bet the bulls eye. But even if u loose money on a scam consider a project called crypto police!!!

Dear All!

As many of us are aware the fact that there are many scams fooling and cheating people of their money under the disguise of ICOs,it would be really useful if your thoughts can be shared for all to be cautious of.
Please be kind enough to comment your ideas!
Thank you!

It's really hard to tell whether an ICO will scam you or not but there are some certain measures that you should be doing before investing in an ICO. For you to be able to know about the project you should read the whitepaper for you to understand the nature of the project whether it is realistic or not. It is also very important to know the people behind working with the project. You need to research as well of the possible affiliates that this project have to back them up for their development. Make sure that the project will also address a certain problem that most tokens or coins wasn't able to deliver for it to be useful and have value when its launched to the public and always follow your gut feeling and intuition almost all of the time it's correct when your in doubt about investing into a scammy project.
in my case,I have been  scammed twice and I have learned my lesson. I will be sharing some of the tried and tested tips:
1. Website: a good website is a must and will show you that the project is well funded.
2. White paper and roadmap : with this you can really identify as to where the ICO is heading to and the targeted goal for the year.
3. Uniqueness: good ICOs stand out from the rest because of the unique feature that they offer.
4. Reputable bounty manager
Hope this one helps.

its easy to identify the scam ICO. you just research about the project if their developer are not work properly and webpage are not made by professional developers and  read the whitepaper if it is not  clearly show detail about the project and project owner did not spend their money on advertisements and market side then we can say it a scam ICO. before investment we should keep all these thing  in mind.

This has already been discussed and discussed on the forum, but I recall that it is sometimes enough to study the project team and it becomes clear that it is SCAM! To believe ICO ratings is not necessary, because all these ratings are bought.

personally, to detect that ico scams is the team never update information about their ico, after that team also cannot be contacted. if you have found a sign like that you should immediately avoid the ico and move to another ico.

You can't easily determine if the ICOs are scam or not. Scam ICO have techniques to make people believe and to trust them. Based on my observations about unpayable ICO, the teams are not able to present their contacts and identity, less information, and through their whitepaper, you can detect whether the ICO is scam. Less information you will get, the chance of scam ICO you can get.

Yes you're right, nowadays it's hard to know if the ICO is a scam or not. Well, on my part I will do.research the kind of ICO that I want to join which in some point it should be detailed and explained well their different informations unlike those probable scam ICO which could be attractive but not as detailed comapre to those legit ICO. Also, I will refer on the bounty manager that will handle the ICO which has more experienced comapre to other unknow bounty manager.

You can easily identify scam ICO by going through their team members, No team with a reputable record would want to get involved in scam and kill his or her reputation, So it is mostly scam team to get involved into ICO scam, so go through the team members, if you can't find a credible information about the team members, it is likely it is a scam.

ICO scams are pretty rare. These scams want nothing, but the investments, then disappear, without giving anything back in exchange.

However there are vast amount of ICOs that are built on bad ideas, or having an incompetent team, etc. that will result in losing a large portion of the value of your investment. This is not something called a scam, but some might feel like they've been scammed.

To indentify, which ICO can be a scam, or does not worth investing, you should check some things about the project. Here are some steps:

0. Read the whitepaper thoroughly. You are investing your funds, make sure you know what you're into
1. Evaluate the viability of the project, and the idea behind it. If its built on a realistic, good idea, that is a good sign.
2. Check the team of the project. Are there any members with years of experience, or high reputation?
3. The partnerships/connections are a particularly important. Make sure to you double check the given informations.
4. Some of these way of scammings are actually pretty old, just being disguised with fancy words and marketing. Being aware of some schemes might help you to keep clear off these kind of scams.
5. Read some professional reviews on the project. These individuals likely to have more experience in investing into ICOs, than the average person willing to invest into ICOs. Keep in mind, that some of these  professional reviewers may be biased, so I'd recommend to read/listen to multiple ones.

You should take your time to pick the right ICO(s) to invest, and it takes time to do your research. And make sure you dont invest blindly, or dont just invest for the hype alone - I did once, turned out to be a mistake. It was not a scam, but the team is not making the efforts that would be expectable.

All of those steps are like must to be done before to join any ICO project and you explained everything correctly.
But why you say that scam ICOs are rare? They are not rare at all and it would be ok for you maybe to hear it from such person as me, but why then all top faces in crypto community say the same? Vitalik Buterin, for example, said that 99% of ICO is scam.

First of all, we need to investigate the team very well. We need to research partners well. And research the team members'  Linkedln account. Is there any fake informations, etc..

There are now multiple platforms where users can crowdfund their dreams and projects into reality. There are no sure way to know if an ICO is scam or not, you just have to have personal investigation on any ICO project you get involved in.
