In years past the internet was suddenly inundated with pictures of an adorable Japanese dog covered in Comic Sans captions. This dog soon became the mascot of a new cryptocurrency, named Dogecoin in honor of its canine inspiration. Dogecoin has not gained the wide acceptance of other cryptocurrencies, but a significant number of retailers accept the currency – Dogecoin's business directory boasts over 200 companies that accept it as a form of payment. Dogecoin also has an enthusiastic and committed user base, and holders of the currency have engaged in several charity campaigns to help establish its legitimacy.
Under the hood, Dogecoin is essentially a proof-of-work currency. Dogecoin's main technological difference is its hashing algorithm – the code it uses to create the difficult math problems that power its proof-of-work scheme. Dogecoin uses an algorithm called Scrypt, which is designed to require more computing power to run than the traditional SHA-256 algorithm. Scrypt was originally introduced in the hopes that it would break the dominance of users running specialized hardware to monopolize mining, but it turns out that Scrypt can be run on specialized hardware as well, so that benefit has been negated.
The main advantage of a Scrypt-based cryptocurrency today is that many of these currencies allow "merged mining" with other compatible currencies. This means that users of one Scrypt-based cryptocurrency can compete to verify transactions on multiple different currency networks at once without having to expend more processing power. This can offer greater financial rewards and improve a currency's energy efficiency, by allowing one processor to be doing multiple jobs at once. Some SHA-256 currencies also allow merged mining with Bitcoin, but the practice is much less common.
Dogecoin is a highly secure cryptocurrency, and its dedicated community helps to ensure that it remains a medium of exchange as opposed to a short-term investment. Its value has also remained fairly stable, although it was affected by the recent cryptocurrency crash along with almost every other cryptocurrency. The main concern with Dogecoin is its extremely low per-coin value, which stems in part from the extremely high coin supply.As a community of forward-thinking cryptocurrency enthusiasts, Dogecoin stands out as a welcoming and lighthearted group. As a serious financial investment, it lacks value. Overall, though, the monetary risk of trying Dogecoin is incredibly low.

DOGE is doing great as of writing this post (May 7, 2017). I am a crypto enthusiast as most of you here and mainly did invest in BTC / LTC and later ETH. I had invested few dollars in DOGE but now it seems to have increased in value. Similarly also I have those old coins Peer/Terra/Feather as well but DOGE has surpassed all expectations. It is really good to see that a coin is holding its position and is not dead yet because of a strong community. I am really glad to be part of it. The other giant cryptos are continuously improving the coins; I wonder if DOGE could do the same. Someone technical should take a lead and try to implement some advance feature like others do.
Now I am a believer of this coin and gonna follow its progress. DOGE is currently all time high at 0.00134116$ / USD (as of May 7th 2017 10:45 AM EST) on Poloniex.

Prediction:
Considering the current growth (including speculations); I predict that DOGE may come close to 0.5$ by March 2018. Being practical overall I think DOGE has potential to hit a mark of 3$ to 5$ in coming future though it may take some time or may be soon even; who knows...

That's means Market Cap more than 50b USD. More than BTC? Really? Maybe one day, but not this year or 2k18 ...

Bitcoin would need to pump 500 times higher to make dogecoin worth 0.5$ if dogecoin continued trading at today's rate in bitcoins. If bitcoin pumped by 10x and doge pumped by 50x against bitcoin that would also make dogecoin worth make dogecoin worth 0.5$.

Maybe that will happen if the future, but it's not going to happen by tomorrow.

It was good while it lasted and all alts can be an investment but I rode the wave up and also transferred to litecoin due to its news. Will put some more on doge for the next wave up

Absolutely, nothing will happen tomorrow. I don't trade much but keep following the trend of these coins. It really surprised me to see DOGE alive and moving at least. That means its under the radar at least. Even I might plan to buy a big chunk of these coins. DOGE looks promising to me in surviving the ruthless market. Who knows about the future...

On segodnishny day grew by more than 350%.
Last week, the Dogecoin price rose by another 25%, despite the almost vertical growth rate, the coin does not deter investors. In fact, it is expected that Dogecoin only started to grow and the trend will continue in the long term.

Dogecoin is not being growing for quite a sometime now although it was one of the few Pioneer coins after BTC including Litecoin etc. But i think 2017 is the year for Dogecoin to show its real potential as we already see big movements of price of dogecoin at poloniex and other exchanges.

More reallistic 0,1$ , is a market cap of 1500 M$ , like NEM actually , 1$ = 1 Doge  15.000M$ it can happen like Ripple , but we must see something important in dogecoin to see this...

Remember, it's only 100 billion coins. The Fed prints 85 billion dollars a month. Dogecoins are extremely rare compared to USD. It could go well above $1. Who knows?
