Sorry, what i ment is does the difficulty not SUDDENLY jump ? I mean its not something progressive which goes from 41 to 42 to 43 etc isn't ?

Because when I checked on netcodepool, it says:

estimated difficulty 41, next difficulty 62...

What about the difficulties in between? Can we predict (time wise) when difficulty 62 will kick in ?

Another alternative is to store a timestamp in a session variable and only load new information from the DB every minute or so (using the timestamp to verify they didn't just refresh). The page requests will still come through but it won't be making so many DB calls.
