I have been scratching my head trying to work out what my income might be with just one radeon 4g 6990
minus expenses.

Whenever I run the calculators I go backwards fast.

I tried a rent to buy option, but I dont believe i can beat the weekly repayments of $50 a week

Has anyone got a readout of their going concern?

You could mine on speculation that there is a price rally soon again, but then you could just buy BTCs instead of the 6990 instead...

You're pretty much in the correct ballpark. Unless your electricity is very cheap or free, the bitcoin self-correcting difficulty makes it unprofitable to mine at current prices for a lot of people.

Have you considered running your 6990 undervolted and underclocked for mining?

A 6990 pulls ~470 watts at full load (from Hard OCP testing)

Voltage increases power draw quadratically.
Clock rate increases/decreases power draw linearly.

Stock volts on a 6990 is 1.175
Stock speed is 880 MHz

To calculate a within reasonable accuracy..

Modified Power draw = (Stock Watts) * (Running clock / stock clock) * (Actual vCore / Stock vCore)^2

If you were able to get it stable at 0.95v and 700ish Mhz ..

Modified Power draw = 470 * (700/880) * (0.95/1.175)^2
= 470 * 0.795 * (0.8085)^2
= 470 * 0.795 * 0.8085 * 0.8085
= 244

So you would lose ~20% hashing speed, but drop power consumption by 225 watts (47%)!  This might be enough to make it profitable for you.

Just drop the memory to around 400, boost the clock to 860-870, and throw it on a sempron machine with a 990fx board, my gaming machine (not a sempron, but a 2500k) has one in it, it's pulling 391 Mh/s on each gpu, slightly undervolted, temps at <80c using Phoenix (aoclbf because it's easy) Real-world income is about 1/2 btc per day with just this card.  That is not taking into consideration power cost. Current rates suggest that you would be pulling in an average of 75 bucks a month, minus about 15 for power, I think you could pay off your 60 a month, but just barely.

How much is your electricity rate? I think with the initial cost of the 6990, a 5970 might be a better choice in terms of initial investment. They're nearly the same in income, but initial cost is cheaper for the 5970.

I wouldn't suggest on buying on 5970's that don't have warranty still.
A few of mine (have 5 total) have runned for 6 months and I've needed to send 2 for repairs during that time perioid.

Expierenced something similar, main problem running 24/7 is cooling the rigs. Since I put mine into the server room (4 KW cooling) at my office I don't have the troubles anymore. And luckely for me I don't have to care about electricity bills, since I own the company and servers have to run 24/7 anyway, else the cost would eat up my BTC rewards.

that sounds nice but with a 6990 you have to keep the mem within 125 mhz of the core, so for instance if the clock was 800 the mem would have to be 675, it is possible to hack the bios and change this but - it is not recommended unless the OP is very experience with this type of thing

I just use sapphire trixx... works like a charm, clock at 860, mem clock at <400, no bios hacking necessary.  It is a diamond reference card, I don't know if it matters, but AUSUM switch is in default position, no bios changes have been made.  If I could get a 6990 for right around 450-500 I would be interested.  I honestly think that a 7970 would be a better option, people are pulling 750 mhash from less than 200 watts of power, some people are dumping them on ebay right now for around 450 since the release of the gtx 680's.  Might be better to hedge your bets on a newer card since it will still be relevant for gamers if bitcoin mining tanks for gpu's, but with the butterfly labs situation being what it is, I think we're still a good 6 months from that being a concern, almost long enough to get your money back out of a 6990, but then again radeon 8000 series seems like it is just around the corner.   Hard to know which trigger to pull on a used gpu for mining atm.  Personally I like the unlocked 6950's, I've picked up a couple with 2+ years warranty left on ebay for right around 200 bucks each, one a gigabyte reference model 2GB and the other an asus dcII 2GB.  I will send a screenshot if you would like for verification purposes.
