It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I'm using BTC Guild. I want to request a payout. Do I need to have my bitcoin wallet open when requesting a payout? Or how does that work?

Or if I send bitcoins do I need to have the wallet open until the transaction is confirmed? Or can I hit send and close the program?

have you ever tryed to STFW. i about to get tired of you noobs!
what do you even mean by "have my bitcoin wallet open"? do you mean that the client should run while receive payment?
no is the answer then! you do not need the client to be running while you are recving your payment. the transaction will be stored in the blockchain. and whn you open your client next time, it will continue downloading blocks. when your client have downloaded the block that includes your transaction, it will show up in your client.

btw. if its not showing up, just wait, and let the client download the blockchain. it will show up sooner or later

Lol,don't mind the resident troglodytes fellow guild member, newbie hazing seems to be common, lol.Scammers and 'Trusted scammers' are the worst ones though.....and no you don't need to.You can also try Deepbit which also has an automatic payout feature until BTC gets over the botnet issues.

Well ... you don't have to be mean to noobs. I remember when I was a noob, I don't even know the existence of www.bitcoin.org. I probably asked my fair share of your definition of "stupid" questions; I'm just glad this newbie forum was patient with me and answered my questions. That is why I'm back here on the Newbie forum ... I don't claim to know everything, but I try to help wherever I can; because I understand the excitement that he's actually withdrawing some bitcoin and the concern that he might lose it if he made a mistake. I was once in his shoes ...
