It's so frustrating not being able to post or even ask question in certain topics. The whole reason I joined was under the presumption that as a newbie to bitcoin I would be able to ask these so-called veterans about some useful things, instead you end up stuck in a topic just for newbies. Isn't this the exact opposite of what a forum is suppose to be about? Users and members learning from each other? Not just some elitist organization where the senior members get all the perks and newbies, well pretty much just watch them.

A single post with 4 hours of online time and you status should change from a newbie to a junior member.

Only one post is needed and after the four hours you get Jr. Member status, it's all in the thread I linked earlier.

Hi all, I've been lurking here for a while, just never posting. I'm not sure if this post has enough content to qualify, but I guess you have to start somewhere. I guess I'm officially new here too... Thanks

Registered a couple of weeks ago, was never able to reply or post on thread of interests. How many posts are required in newbie section here to get out of newbie status?
Well it's just one and 4 hours but really it wont count ((at least on my pc)) the time you are logged but the time you are acrive surfing in the groups and posting msgs

This is my post #1 as well - I was really hoping to post in one of the other categories on here but it seems I need to make a substantial post first. I know they can't post what "substantial" means since people would just post 1 character over that but it would be nice to know if my post qualifies or not Oh well, I figure this is probably enough so I guess I'll just sit back and wait my 4 hours

i have my account in bitcointalk.org since May ´13. i never had reason to write any post, reading was enough for me. mostly i found answers to my questions and didn´t need to spam every thread full. now when i see my status as "brand new" it just looks funny for me. i think, that this "newbie" status and the reasons why this status is existing, are not up to time anymore. just usual informative stats about every member would be enough. or can anybody reasonably explain me, how this restriction of 4h should "protect" rest of community?
regards Tegija
It is to prevent (well, at least reduce) spam. Without the 4h wait time, people can register a new account, make a post in newbie section, and start spamming IMO. The 4h requirement would (hopefully) discourage such action, and also encourage new joiners to read the sticky posts on different boards so that people don't ask FAQ again and again.
