We have a small active alpaca farm in Malibu, California. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2337951Looking to let: freestanding room+bath+1+kitchen 600"sq interior. Anything from BnB with service, to long term lease. You have your awesome self, and you are looking for some time on a hilly ranch, rustic with special charms, succulent garden, and alpacas. Close to beach (Malibu, Zuma), surf, hiking, motorbikes, horses, nature (Backbone trail), and alpacas. Filtered and tested deep-water well 7gal/min pump 20gal/min flow. DSL (To be upgraded to fiberoptic link when AT&T finish their work). Delightful treehouse, acreage with views. Private. ...oh, and alpacas.

100 BTC per month is a lot even with the alpaca stud service included... The local market rate in the area is around US$1600-2000/month for comparable, but frankly I'm more interested in high quality people than the money, which is why it is being advertised here way ahead of availability. The last tenant was an artist, and had his most productive period while staying there. But he just wasn't the same person after returning from Burningman.

One of the barns is shaping up into a nice little furniture / cabinetry / carpentry factory. So if you are handy with the woodworking, potential extra benefits and revenue.

Although it isn't quite wilderness, it is pretty remote. So there are more bunnies than the coyotes can possibly eat, as well as lots of birds including hawks, variety of reptiles, occasional badger or other critter.
We've kept peocock and guinnea hen at the ranch but it is difficult to keep them protected, the alpaca are pretty good at protection and mix well with birds so that may be in the future again.
The alpaca will eat from your hand and are very friendly. Some of them were formerly in petting zoos. They all have their own personality though, each one is different, some are more shy, others not at all.

There is an AirBnB competitor that takes Bitcoin in the EU, but none in the USA. I may start one unless or until AirBnB starts accepting bitcoin. Let me know if you want in.

My llama may be interested. He's been creeping over as I read your thread. Unfortunately, he's mean as hell and only gets along with horses.

Cat and goat would both be welcome. (you too)
There are coyote native in the area, so cat should be inside at night, and there is a safe pen for the goat. (Alpaca make great protection animals.)

Hmm. I don't know? I thought I read once that syphilis was a disease of llamas. So maybe I could breed with one.

You could make some serious business from this. I know a guy who has a kangaroo farm, it's not a petting zoo, the Kangaroos can go wild around the premises, and they are very friendly and like people. His is kind of a petting zoo except they are not enclosed. You could do this and give discounts to people who pay in Bitcoin I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be interested in seeing alpacas.

His is kind of a petting zoo except they are not enclosed. You could do this and give discounts to people who pay in Bitcoin I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be interested in seeing alpacas. The alpaca are friendly enough to eat from your hand. They can't really bite you as they have no upper teeth. If you are very patient and gentle, some of them may let you pet them on the neck. They are pretty smart for prey animals, and very social in their herd. We had a baby (called a 'cria') a couple weeks ago. The ranch is off the beaten path in the hills of Malibu California, a bit rustic and very peaceful. Alpaca are great jumpers. Most any of them could get out of their areas if they are motivated, but they like each other and tend to just stay in the pens. There are a few that will take the odd walk around the grounds though. And yes, discounts and special treatments are available for those that pay in Bitcoin.
