I don't know if Bitcoin will be around in 10 years...but some form of cryptocurrency will be! There probably will be other currencies that exist out there, and it can pay thanks to Bitcoin for that! |

Why does everyone think that BTC wont change with time? Every "doomsday" prophecy doe the same thing...they all think that BTC wll stay the way it is right now and will never ever change (chain will get too long, speed of transaction bla bla bla bla...it's like BTC will be frozen in time). Same here..it is not perfect and it will die....do you think that BTC will never be upgraded, fixed, changed? |

the protocol can be updated, saying bitcoin isn't perfect and therefore will be replaced by another crypto is like saying http is not perfect and therefore will be replaced by a better internet protocol. rather than putting the protocol in the garbage and replace it with something new, you can also just update the protocol, which is much more likely to happen because bitcoin is the only crypto that is (and will be) used in commerce. |

I think that BTC WILL change, why do you think it WON'T? Only because "some" software did not change and died, you think BTC wont change and will die? What kind of logic is that? What about all that software that DID change and is still alive and kicking harder than ever? (linux anyone?) Why do you think BTC is not one of those? |

Err maybe, to be fare all old software that died could have been upgraded but still died anyway.
Bitcoin is more like a protocol than software. The internet used TCP/IP 20 years ago and it will 20 years from now. It never got replaced with something different even though TCP/IP has plenty of flaws. |

Not sure the version number of Bitcoin is particularly relevant ......... but anyone attempting to predict the future of Bitcoin in 19 years is a deluded fool, we have enough trouble trying to predict what will happen tomorrow. Navigator went tits up btw |

bitecoins trend rose crash, Not ever say 19 years, even tommow that we don't know what happened? On the other hand, I am concerned about the trend of bitecoins daily on bitstamp & mtgox and lakebtc.com, Stage if no other factors, alone trading transactions, bitcoin is not a big price volatility.

Netscape code is now one of the most important open source code bases out there and it's used to build one of the most popular pieces of software of all time. It has been and still is instrumental to the openness of the Web. I'm sure all of the code has been rewritten a couple of times already and the company is long gone... but the Netscape legacy is huge: if bitcoin ever has a shadow that long, it's been a stellar success. |

Cause if your battery dies , you're in big trouble , especially if you're alone away from home. Or you can't get a signal on your phone. Cash is very useful and convenient, Bitcoin won't replace it. |

Can anybody here recognize the difference between a protocol and a program?
Netscape was a program, http IS a protocol. Http is still dominant, being upgraded etc.
In the same manner, bitcoin-qt is a program, bitcoin itself IS a protocol.
Still, I'm no future teller.

Netscape is still alive. It's just that it's modern ancestor have a different name. Mozilla Firefox. Although yes probably very little of the original Netscape code remains. But nevertheless, the browser didn't die... just the brand. |

Most of the people are missing the intent here, missing the bigger picture and discussing protocol vs product etc etc, Point is internet as a concept was derided, no body thought what to make of it and see now, and imagine future! But the birth of the Internet didn't threaten the existence of huge financial institutions.
