Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Thanks for this list i am really confused why pools when one can mine solo?
To high hashrate to mine a block with regular equipment. You will get some coins on pools than in solo mining (but if you win - reward will be bigger

If your average time to find one block is 100 years, then solo mining is rather risky. Sure you could find a block in 1 hour with exceptional luck. But it could also take 10 000 years if you have bad luck. Most likely your hardware wears out and dies before finding anything.

Many miners these days never find a block.

Too late on the first pool, but Tricky's is still going. I don't think this heralds a return of the golden age of um 'profit optimisation' though.

EclipseMC is shutting down: https://eclipsemc.com/single-news.php?id=26

References to it have been removed from the front page, so if anyone was wondering why Eclipse dropped in popularity so significantly:

WARNING
Although Eclipse MC has in the past been a reliable pool it has recently been shown that it belongs to BFL, whose assets are now in receivership: http://ia902308.us.archive.org/32/items/gov.uscourts.mowd.117531/gov.uscourts.mowd.117531.42.20.pdf

You're still offering proportional reward, right?

sure am for now, considering a change but not sure if there is any point, if the community continue the way they are, i will be dropping crypto like the hot potato its becoming :/ the community need to accept mass adoption will never happen while internet and electricity are controlled by an external source, and by pushing for it, they are alienating users, we aint all as dumb as guberment would like :/

if they want mass adoption the community need to maybe get together and create some kind of mesh network, that we can all join and use our crypto's over as the internet is in grave danger, with talk of guberments lobbing nukes around Sad

abracadabra is referring to the fact you're offering an exploitable reward method, that's all.

ohhh ok, thank you but i dont see how its exploitable, without masses and masses of hash on the pool for long periods, not solved a block in 4 months but shares have stayed about the same give or take, if i had regular big hash power i wouldnt be running prop, but as its only a small pool, i thought it would be fairest Smiley

There's a lot written on it, and it can be a significant profit optimiser for any miner on a proportional pool.

I had a whole blog about pool hopping proportional pools at one point,  theres a post explaining it there (somewhere): https://howtohop.blogspot.com

yeah thanks for the link but i looked a while ago at the pool hopping and came to the conclusion its just software, which if its wanted badly enough it will be broken, kind of like this hopping situation, i cant help but wonder how many of these rental places have their own pools and are hopping back and forth when potentially solving the blocks, its part of the reason i think its been built to fail :/ but its still my hobby and many others and will live as long as we keep it alive Smiley

No, not really a software issue --  it's a provable statistical certainty.
