5970 doesn't want to overclock

I've just overclocked both GPUs on my 5970 to 900MHz at 1.225V and I got BSOD within about 2 minutes. GPU temperatures are in the low 70s. What kind of overclocks are you guys getting with your 5970s?

that might just be a crappy chip. overclocks are never guaranteed. some do better than others, even from the same batch of chips

My PSU is a Corsair TX950 by the way. I managed to run 3DMark 11 and the Crysis benchmark for around an hour each at 950MHz @ 1.200V with no problems at all. It just seems that it doesn't want to mine or run Furmark when it's overclocked because it keeps crashing after a minute or 2 at the most.

I've posted a screenshot of GPU-Z and HWMonitor after mining for about 20 minutes. The screenshot below is with the 5970 running at stock clocks and volts. Some of those temps seem a bit high.



Now after an hour of mining the VDDC temperatures are at 120°C, still at stock clocks.

I've taken the cooler off the 5970 and I saw that whoever put the cooler on didn't do a good job of it. There was a thin piece of plastic between the heatsink and one of the thermal pads. I've had a good look on Google, but I can't find any instructions for installing an Accelero cooler onto the 5970. I don't know what kind of thermal pads to put on, where to put them, or where to get them from so if anyone here could help me with that then that would be great.

Does anyone know how to put an Accelero cooler onto a 5970? Otherwise I'm just going to put the stock cooler back on because the Accelero just doesn't want to fit back on.

You're not going to get a stable 900mhz on a 5970.  If you get 850 stable consider yourself lucky.  Most run around 810-840 without issues (the latter being the better chips).

5970 is different than 5870 even if they use same chips... Most of the 5870 can go to 930-950 MHz easily and this make most of the people to think that 5970 also can do similar MHz...
