In what context? People referring to Bitcoin as the 'next generation of currency'? If so, it's pretty self-explanatory. They're of the opinion that bitcoin is a new idea or evolvement of current monetary systems.

Ok, so the BTC alternatives are also in this group of "Next Generation currency"? And what about for example Facebook virtual currency, is it also "Next Generation" as BTC?

Well whether something is 'next generation' is all relative I suppose and depends on your own personal opinion. Maybe all cryptocurrencies are next gen, or maybe all digital currencies are, or maybe it's just Bitcoin, but only time will tell what people generally consider next gen currency. I'm not sure about Facebook though as their system is probably just like credits or something (though whether it's a currency or not is probably debatable).

Next Generation currency does it mean that Bitcoin in the next future will be the currency which is the more utilized.

Yes, because you have to consider that traditional money will disappear  Grin

I think it will happen not soon, 'cos the development of the Internet at some countries is still quite slow, and also the resistance of the government to these "Next Generation" currencies is quite strong.

Yes, but you have to consider that in the next future, more or less 30-40 year, every country in the world will have internet or will born some technolgy which allow to poor country to use internet.

If you imagine people trading hundreds of years ago, before coins and such were invented, the new generation currency would've been coins and later on bills. Now we've taken another step into the future and another generation of currency is here, crypto currencies, which bitcoin is the leading amongst.

In the context of altcoins, it's just another buzzword like "completely anonymous" and "new business infrastructure." Essentially, it's a claim that a particular altcoin is a step above the currently existing coins in a number of aspects. Be warned though -- most so-called "next generation" currencies either end up being scams or useless trade fodder. Personally, that term is a red flag for me. Unnecessary hype is never attractive on any financial investment.

Next generation currency for me is the digital currency, that includes cryptos and virtual money, for example ''gems'' or ''gold'' in games.

I posted this reply in a similar thread and think it might also be applicable here:
Quote
This paper should explain some of the concepts about what makes Bitcoin a "next generation" currency: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Just some keynotes: Bitcoin is a digital currency that removes an element of trust and allows for a user to store personal wealth securely without the need of a financial institution who will typically tax or charge you for transactions, transfers etc.

Bitcoin allows for funds to be transferred digitally across the world securely to anyone else with a Bitcoin Address, this is without you having to trust anyone with your funds to arrive at the destination. If you learn about transactions enough you can even broadcast your transactions with no fee, so you can move your coins for free (this is frowned upon and your transactions can often be ignored by miners).

The list of benefits and innovations the Bitcoin protocol provides seems too long to list here or to even derive from reading Satoshi's paper alone. You will need to research this subject for quite sometime to get a good grasp on the expansive answer to your question.

My recommendation is to stay away from alternative blockchains, if this is what your asking about, it is quite easy to produce altcoins and some people can make new coins in under hours, some websites/services offer coin generators. Most newbies think they can invest in altcoins and it is something new and exciting but *most* most tend to be pump/dumps and they will flutter out. If their is some serious or necessary innovation made to the bitcoin protocol, their is a good chance if it is beneficial enough and has little/no repercussions it can and might be implemented into an official client.
Cheers,

juju

People call their coin "next generataion" trying to sell them as better as bitcoin.

99.99% don't have nothing new, and even if they have, its nothing to justify the term "next generation coin"

So, you think, that the main aim of BTC analogies is to make profit, not to improve the "next generation" currency?

Could somebody please explain me the meaning of "Next Generation" currency? Or maybe any references to the articles about it?

I asked about this term once and get a lot of spam about scamers and shitcoins. so what i get from the web and community:

Bitcoin was really innovative and powerful thing  not without their flaws. some of them were not obvious and were not immediately clear. There were first clones of Bitcoin (Litecoin and etc) - 1st generation of alternative cryptocurrency's. They did not to improve correct congenital defects but simply offer something new.
Now after few years after start the massive use of BTC some peoples  believe that some of the shortcomings that are critical enough to correct them:

- BTC have high entry threshold into the mining. not for union users with laptop's

- BTC is not true anonymous (once you create an transaction - your balance  can be tracked in blockchain)

- BTC are bad for the environment (it's the point about electricity. of course BTC less then fiat but as a phenomenon of the 21st century it's pretty much)

- some other disadvantages about Proof Of Work Bitcoin system

So there are need of new currency's with new ideas devoid of these shortcomings. There are a lot of altcoins. There are a ;ot of scammers in altcoins.

I will not name concrete coin. I dont know wich one will rise.
But i trust that there are some coins that can be named "next gen" - true anonymous, fast, ecological, easy and honesty. Just try to find one for yourself
