I don't understand. I saw some BlockEruptor USB ASICs with about 300 MHS on Ebay for $20 USD. That would take over 200 days to repay IF the difficulty stayed the same, which it won't.

I guess my question is, why do people buy these? If they were in it for a BTC investment they should just buy BTC. Granted, I understand that they are pretty cool... but not enough to warrant that. You can buy a Graphics card for a little more and actually pay it back Scrypt mining.

Thoughts?
The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

There is no point in buying those from money making aspect, but they can be fun to play with and teach you how to do basic mining.  Just like people buying beat up old cars which may not be worth the time and energy to fix up but they do it as a hobby.

Mining with those old ASICs can still be fun, even if you will not get your investment back. Cheesy
