Effect of innovative coins for the future of cryptos

I was just thinking about the general future of cryptos.
Money is a sensitive topic for many people. What would happen if a technologically superior cryptocoin would replace Bitcoin? I'm talking about fundamentally different code and concept.
Would it be good for the movement of cryptos by advancing the technology or would it kill the movement longtime because of bad news of people loosing their money.

What are your opinions and guesses on that?
