I have read: there al 100,000,000 coins. Price is now about $1,00.
So the value is in fact 100,000,000 USD ?

Guys, how about some community stuff, like twitter, telegram, slack maybe?
And what's up with the distribution issue?

Some other coins actually make it their business to take care of stuff like these and they even have volume on exchanges too.
Fascinating, don't you think? Cheesy

Total Supply : 5,250,299 SKY
$0.799565

The price is high ؟؟؟ why  Embarrassed

It has been in development for over six years

Now $1.09.  Roll Eyes

Look at the white papers
- http://skycoin.net/whitepapers.html

If we succeed we will have
- a solid coin (with the first new consensus algorithm since PeerCoin, pioneering innovation in UXTO model, transaction faster than a credit card transaction, pioneer in JSON APIs for ease of user with external applications and thin client interface, no external dependencies and solid security model).
- a solid wallet (with multi-coin support "universal wallet", intrinsic support for gmaxwell's CoinJoin protocol and improved privacy). I think we are the only coin who did CoinJoin correctly. It gives Skycoin ZeroCoin zsnarks level transaction privacy, using a trusted third party and with no overhead over a normal transaction.
- A solid user community and application ecosystem. The Skycoin application ecosystem will become very important for driving adaption.

Ultimately, Skycoin aims to be best in class in every attribute.

The coin on its strengths and technical merit alone, can easily achieve a top 10 position. But we will need the application ecosystem to get a position among Ethereum and Bitcoin and be a top 3 coin.
After six years, the price of Skycoin is too low for ICO investors.

But the price almost triple. Not to bad from ICO  (2500 SKY for 1 BTC)

What is Skycoin?

Skycoin is a groundbreaking technology platform, designed to enable the creation of the decentralized internet. The first phase of Skycoin was a major research undertaking which has taken several years and will conclude with the implementation and official launch of the Skycoin platform. The second phase will focus on bootstrapping the Skycoin economy via a rich ecosystem of applications and services, aimed at solving several real-world problems. Thanks to a long and sustained collaborative effort, Skycoin has been designed to be faster, more secure, and more efficient than bitcoin or other crypto-platforms, thus, becoming the first solid foundation for the decentralized internet.

The project consists of 8 main components: 1)Sky Ledger, 2)Obelisk, 3)BlockDB, 4)Aether, 5)Skywire, 6)CXO, 7)]CX and 8)Skycoin.

- Sky Ledger is Skycoin's block chart standard based upon uxto model.
- Obelisk is Skycoin's innovative consensus algorithm which replaces POW and POS with a web of trust. The new cryptographic and network primitives allow verification of mathematical conditions for unanimous network consensus, both for public and private blockchains. The new network primitives also enable detection of malicious node behaviour. Obelisk was inspired by academic research into adversarial distributed time-stamping and algorithms such as Ben-Or's, Paxos, and the Castro-Liskov PBFT algorithm. It is a new solution to the Byzantine Generals problem which offers strong mathematical security guarantees, even when the majority of nodes are hostile.
- BlockDB is Skycoin's block storage engine which doesn't use SQL. It is a key-value store for constant time operations without indices.
- Aether is Skycoin's peer-to-peer caching and replication protocol of immutable CXO objects.
- CXO is Skycoin's immutable object system.
- CX is Skycoin's programming / application / blockchain language.
- Skywire is Skycoin's meshnet. A new public source routed MPLS network protocol, designed and integrated into the Skycoin ecosystem.
- Skycoin is the token powering the ecosystem, through which Skywire and Aether can be used.

Primary Applications

Due to its advanced architecture, the Skycoin platform offers an unlimited number of potential applications:

Aether   - State/Storage/Data
Skywire - Communication
CX         - Computation

We are currently working on 3 main applications which are almost done:

- A VPN application based on the Skywire network protocol.
- A messaging application based on Skywire network protocol.
- A distributed content management system based on Aether/CXO.

Roadmap

Please note that all the dates mentioned here are tentative, and could be subject to further changes.

ICO & Coin Distribution

The ICO round is done for now. Skycoin has begun trading: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Exchange/?market=SKY_BTC

Specifications

- New Consensus Algorithm: Obelisk
- Transaction time: 10 seconds
- Total Supply: 100 million SKY
- Coins divisible to 6 decimal places
- No inflation
- No mining

Features

Security:
- Skycoin enables a high level of security due to a multi-layered security approach(1) Deterministic ESDSA, 2)enforced signature mutability, 3)hardening against SHA256 pre-image attacks, 4)hardening against side channel attacks, 5) quantum resistent two step protocol transactions)

Privacy:
- Skycoin offers a higher level of privacy thanks to its stenographic wallets with "wallet mixing" and "money pot" options.

Skycoin Meshnet Project:
- Skycoin offers a Darknet protocol running on its wifi mesh network, bridging the "last mile" between homes and fiber with a distributed wireless mesh network and community ISP.

Skycoin Anonimity:
- Skycoin naively supports a simplified CoinJoin protocol. This protocol is much simpler than zero coin while dramatically improving transaction privacy

Ecosystem And Strategic Partnerships

In addition to the innovative technology Skycoin brings to the market, we are actively discussing several strategic partnerships with exchanges, payment processors, businesses and other institutions, aiming to add considerable value and utility to the Skycoin ecosystem. Should discussions come to fruition and come the right time, we will make appropriate announcements.

Need Help?

We are working on a FAQ page which will be added shortly.

Developers And Contributors

Skycoin is an open source project; the result of a large collaborative effort between multiple interdependent teams. We will work hard to create strong incentives through substantial bounties and rewards, ensuring an increasing inflow of valuable contributions to the project. We will make sure that people who contribute to the success of Skycoin will be proportionally compensated.

I'd be surprised if Poloniex listed it with a question mark over the remaining 95% of the supply being in the dev's control regardless of the longevity and validity of the project.

Exactly, I've read everything that the dev has said in this thread recently but nothing he said really gives an excuse for this. Distribution should be a priority or the whole project just looks incompetent, the more people find out about the coin while the distribution is basically non existent, the more people will lose interest in the project simply because they have no access to the coins at a normal price, knowing that devs are holding 95% of the supply and the coin has already been in development for 3.5 years.

I love this coin, 3.5 Years of development, that is good but distribution cannot be the same, you are confusing the economy for no reason and there will always be a big question mark above this project. I have traded cryptos on this forum for about 4 years now and this is one of the worst distributions I've ever seen, putting a huge stain on its amazing tech, there is no excuse for this.

I've been on this forum about that long too (3.5 years or so) and this one completely passed me by. I read the entire thread not long ago and was blown away at its innovations and plans.

I think the excuse the dev does have, which appears valid in the realm of the dev is that he simply wasn't prepared for it to be openly traded yet. The code  was there and the market has caught up unfortunately.

From someone who's just bought 1000 or so to see where this would go, it's not a big enough investment that if all 100 million were suddenly distributed, I'd kill myself but I'm sure there are people who've put a lot more in and want to see long term value. If the dev team keep the several million they have aside, is there any real reason for not burning a lot of the remainder instead of trying to control the release of the rest centrally and arbitrarily?

I think the only real solution is to burn a considerable amount, lets say 80 Million, after which only 15 million will be left over for distribution. The devs could keep a significant amount, lets say 5 mil, to fund future development.

Ideas?

Agreed,
I would have purchased more if the distribution wasn't so rediculous,

The dev seems open to ideas. Do a thorough analysis and then post. The team hasn't had much time to think about distribution. Come back with historical examples and maybe you can change devs mind. Talking like this doesn't help cuz all investors want less supply lol

Same. In fact I bought into the ICO thinking the total supply was the amount that was being sold in the ICO (I know, my mistake). But I am so far impressed by the devs responsiveness and receptiveness, they are definitely aware of our concerns. Let's wait and see what happens. Either way I am very optimistic about this project, I remember reading about it when I first joined BCT in early 2014 and I'm happy to see it is starting to come to fruition.

Hmm yeah the distribution and Dev share is a bit on the high side. I'm sure the devs are considering something though.
