creating and verifying PGP signatures

Hi, very noobish Cryptography question

I just got into PGP, and I have some questions

I am using GPG4win

So in order to generate my own message, I create a txt file, encrypt and sign it, and leave as text output. Then I paste it into another text file and add the unencrypted message above along with the "-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----" and Hash: SHA1. Correct?

I also tried to verify the mybitcoin pgp signed message. I imported their certificate from a popular PGP keyserver and copied their signature from their website. Then I left-clicked and selected "decrypt and verify", unchecked "Imput file is a detached signature", and I got an error saying the certificate was incorrect. What did I do wrong?

If it's supposed to be a public text you don't need to encrypt it. Only sign it.
If you are using the GNU Privacy Assistant you can copy your text to the clipboard and then use the Assistant to sign it.
