Just started my rigs up.

Rig 1: 2x XFX 290x and 1x Sapphire 290 (each 290x hashes at 940 with 3% reject rate, i was able to pull 980 each card but reject rate started to climb) and the 290 hashes about 880

Rig 2: 1x XFX DD 280x and 2x Gigabyte 280x that were DOA (awaiting return so I can replace) - so this rig is out of comish til I can replace the 2 gigabytes, thinking about just running the single XFX however

I ran out of money so I had to go cheap on the PSU with the Raidmax 1200AE Gold on each rig

Reading alot of reviews saying these fake gold rated PSU's are not ideal.. but It's all I could afford.  Hopefully they'll last til I break even on my investment and start earning money to replace them with better quality units.

you ran out of money so you decided to go cheap on the most important part of your setup which provides power to all other components ?

and cheaping on the only component where failure can take out the rest of your rig ? and your house, if you're really unlucky......

I just got 2 xfx 290x in, how are you dealing with the heat issues? I have heard a lot of complaints about the XFX cards.

I have 1 of my 290x cards running in smos os at 880 Kh/s , it's at about 80c, everything seems good except the entire screen flickers with little green pixels.

Are these your first rigs? If so, congrats!

I don't remember the first time I started generating hashes, but I do remember the first hashes I generated on my first rig. Pretty cool feeling.

Where mining is also about turning your electricity into hashes, an efficient PSU is very very important.
The higher quality PSU the more effient is operates. It can vary up to 15% between some models.
So when your pc needs 800 watts and your PSU operates at 85%, you are burning 920watts.

Just wanted to follow up with you guys.

I ended up selling off my 280x rig, then returned the 290x cards and then build 2 new machines with the profit from selling the 280x rig.

now I've got 2 rock solid rigs:

1:
5x XFX TDFD 280x with 760w seasonic platinum and 1000 evga g2 gold

2:
3x R9 290 (2 XFX Black edition and 1 Sapphire BF4) with the same PSU setup (760w seasonic and 1000G2)

2 of the 290's are Hynix and 1 is Elpida so I get roughly 920, 910, 870 kh/s on each card

the 280x rig are all hashing at 730 each, so my total hashing power is over 6Mh/s now

I was thinking to eventually add 2 more 290's to the second rig once I make enough to cover the cost, but the heat and noise associated with those cards is crazy.  during summer Im not sure what Im going to do with it.

It sounds to me that you are doing scripts instead of SHA-256 so I would suggest you mine Dogecoin today as they are at 138% profit margin projection for the day. The projection not counting your electricity at all because I don't know your watts or what your electric company charges per kilowatt hour so your projection in Dogecoin for the day is to make $42.36 USD versus right under $40 for Namecoin or next of about $30.50 with Litecoin.
