Most in the crypto industry are aware of Coindesk's huge conference, Consensus. Many were excited for this event, however Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin voiced his opposition to the event for multiple reasons. He has asked the crypto community to come together and boycott the event all together. You can read more below!

I do not think that it will affect me very much. Actually, I'm not sure that Vitalik is doing the right thing. But this is his choice and I do not blame him.

I have an emotional conflict over this. I like Buterin and I'm sure he has his reasons, but I'm also excited and closely following the event.

I'm not quite fully aware of the controversy surrounding this call for boycotting. Can someone provide something like an ELI5 for us novice readers? Thanks Smiley

ETH just awaits hardfork and change of protocol, all the users and investors are aware of it, and there is not really much to add right now. Nobody is going to talk bad news there, so Vitalik takes time to deal with real problems first, and secondly, he tries to stay away from cryptosociety so to detach his coin from others and make it kind of exclusive and different

Not that I'm particularly fond of Ethereum and its founder, but Vitalik's reasons for not participating are legitimate. For example, Coindesk's reporting on EIP 999, their giveaway scams, and linking to fraudulent websites.
Btw, many conferences, not only in the crypto space, are organized primarily for financial gain. You can see that by the hefty registration fees in the range from $1K to $3K per participant. Just multiply that by the estimated 4K participants.

I do not think that this strongly influenced this conference. I have a feeling that Vitalik just wanted to attract a little attention.
