News: BIP91 seems stable: there's probably only slightly increased risk of confirmations disappearing. You should still prepare for Aug 1.

Hi everyone,

People using Bitfinex know, as I do, that it is a very nice trading platform to use, with some unique features not found on most other platforms/exchanges.

I've been trading there for a while now and overall I’m quite happy with the service provided. However I was missing some stats and charts to assist me in my trading I couldn't find on bitfinex itself or on any external service. To solve this I started to build these myself.

I'd be the first to compliment the creator of bitcoinwisdom.com for doing a great job in providing real-time data for trading on bitfinex, but still I am really missing a graphical representation of the market depth for LTC and BTC.

Also I couldn’t find any historical data on Bitfinex’  swap (Lending) feature anywhere.

For anyone who also has been missing these features, as I did, I’ve built a website to put all the above together.
If I’ve raised your intrest, please feel free to have a peek at:

http://www.bfxdata.com

For now it's very beta project, so keep that in mind Cheesy.
For now the site will provide the following features:

For Swaps (Lending):

  • A chart (with accompanying table) with the lowest liquidity offer rate over time (for the last hour/day/week) I Use this because the API doesn't provide a method to retrieve actual liquidity offers taken, this will give an idea of the 'current' and historic rates on liquidity swaps).
  • A chart with the liquidity demands and offers with accompanying tables. The tables are similar to the ones you’ll find on the "liquidity swaps" tab when are logged in on bitfinex.com.
  • Charts + tables with the sum total of all open USD liquidity swaps and average rate
  • "Swap Return Calculator". You can use this to calculate what the return would be on a USD liquidity offer you place on Bitfinex.

For BTC/LTC/DRK exchange

  • Marketdepth charts + order book tables
  • exchange rate charts (hour/day/week )
  • Table with recent trades.
  • Profit / loss calculators for long and short positions.

Swaps & Price Combined:
  • Pages with charts combining Swap stats and Price stats for BTC and LTC

I’d love to hear your thoughts about my project. If you miss something, see a bug or have suggestions please give me feedback in this topic.

Regards Bjorn

Update 6 Januari 2014:

Bitfinex Stopped using the terms "Loan" and "Lending" and started using the term "Liquidity"
To keep things in par I've also replaced "lending" and "loan" for "liquidity".
Furthermore all dates displayed are now in the user's own local time. These used to be GMT+1 (as I live in Europe).

Please let me know if you'd like to see additional features.

good job on the site!
Bitfinex Liquidity Stats really help.
It’s a shame the API doesn't provide a method to retrieve actual liquidity offers taken.
I am interested to know what is the highest Rate (% per day) you offered that was taken?
Do people really take 0.5% per day and higher Liquidity offers?

Do people really take 0.5% per day and higher Liquidity offers?

Personally I offer liquidity just under 1 percent, since that is the maximum rate that will be taken automatically when a leverage trader opens a position (i.e. takes a liquidity offer). +1 % offers only get taken if a liquidity taker takes it manually. In my experience these offers are being taken, be it that the last 2 weeks less often than before.

so yes +0.5 % offers are being taken (I don't even bother offering at lower than 0.9 % per day).

My reasoning is that if I offer at say 0.33 % per day. It takes 3 times longer to get the same return compared to a 1 % offer, which also means I can't use these funds myself to do some day trading.

Take a look at the graph in a longer timeframe and you will notice that quite a few times the "lowest liquidity offer" has been 1 % and even higher.

On a side note I'm experiencing some stability problems in my webserver, so sometimes the data for the graphs will be unavailable. I'm working to get this fixed. My apologies if this happens.

regards,

Bjorn

Thank you for the info!

So to make sure i understand you offer @ 0.9-0.99% per day for short periods of 2 days and people take it all the time? - If this is the case, everyone shall start to offer @ 0.5% – 0.99% rates but on the contrary the Flash Return Rate is much lower.

Another question can you try to explain to me a bit about the risk involved in lending? The rate per day is really high and insurance isn't cheap so there must be some big risk involved - On the contrary i read there was no default lending so far.

How big black swan event needs to happen in order for me to not get all my money back? - i read that even when "littleguy" lost his 2.5M all lenders got their money back.

(Sorry for the noob questions)
Cheers.

Personally I offer for longer periods, but most of the time the liquidity taker closes his position within 48 hours. At least that's my experience. They are taken, not "all" the time, but quite often.
The Flash Return Rate is the “average rate on Contract for Difference (CFD) of current swaps (per day)” (quoted from bitfinex.com). There’ll be people offering below and above the FRR. In order for the FRR to really change it takes al LOT of volume (keep in Mind currently more than 14 million USD is in open Swaps). But it does change. just 3.5 weeks ago, December 21, the FRR was 0.8 % per day, again take a look at the graph:

Between December 20 and December 25 the lowest liquidity offer was +1% almost all the time...

Well I can’t really tell you more then what bitfinex themselves tell us. No defaults have happened thus far, not even in April. Levarage trades will get margin calls if there position is too “risky” take a look at the wiki for more info. Most risk is with the margin trader and only when the markets crash REALLY fast liquidity offeres will get hit.

(Sorry for the noob questions)

bjornw, thank your for your original work! It helps me to get a whole picture of the historical liquidity rates very well.

There are a few things you might consider to improve:

1. the FRR order is missing from your order book
2. add zoom in to the liquidity demands/offers graph (does highcharts support it?)
3. currently I see two liquidity offers order book where one of them should be liquidity demands.

again, a great job.

1. the FRR order is missing from your order book
By this you mean the flash return rate, right? As far is I know the Flash Return Rate is the same as the the average rate on all open swaps, so basically it is in the "Average rate on Contract of Difference (CFD)" graph and the "Total sum of active loans" table. I can add "Flash Return Rate" lable to it, If that makes thing more clear.

2. add zoom in to the liquidity demands/offers graph (does highcharts support it?)

I'm almost sure highcharts/highstocks has that option, just hadn't had time to look in to it, is on my todo list. Added it Smiley

3. currently I see two liquidity offers order book where one of them should be liquidity demands.

I messed up Smiley I changed some code yesterday to do less request on the bitfinex api, but I switched some files Smiley, Fixed it.
Thanks for your feedback!

It's better adding FRR to the order book. Otherwise FRR orders will be missing from the depth graph, making it less useful for users want to put their smaller orders before FRR wall.

I added "Highest USD liquidity Demand" to the liquidity graph. By default it is disabled. You can add it to the chart by clicking on it in the legend box. I think the highest demand is less relevant to use as an indicator of the curren rate (that was why I made this chart in the first place (see post #1). The highest liquidity demand is considerably lower than the rate that leverage traders actually take when opening a position. Not many people accept liquidity demands I think.

Anyway a bit more information can be a good thing. It's up to the user whether or not to look at highest USD liquidity demand or not. Also added a Demands table.

the 30Day average is a very nice suggestion and I might add it as I did with de demands line. I'll keep you updated.

Good stuff. And yeah keep Demand off by default so it doesn't clutter, but is there as an option when needed. But i noticed that Demand isn't "live". i.e. that line stops and doesn't update like Liquidity Offer. Have to refresh the page for it to update. Still on FireFox 22. Think 30day should be the same way available if you want it but off by default so it doesn't clutter. 2day and 30day markets can be very different.

Forgot to add it, will make it update once a minute just like the offers, just hadn't had time yet.
UPDATE: The demand line is now also updating once every minute

ah I see what you mean now. FRR offers / demands are indeed missing entirely from the depth graph / tables... Didn't notice that before. I want to add them but they're missing from the bitfinex api output. I've sent Bitfinex a mail if they can add them to the api. As soon as I find a way to add the FRR offers / demands, I'll add them.

Thanks for pointing this out!

Just added a "Lowest 30day USD Liquidity Offer" line to the chart. Turned off by default, users can enable it themselves.
The database needs te get filled with data, so it 'll take a while before a bit more historical data will be available. The 30 day average is calculated every minute and it's a bit hard on the DB to do tis for all the data in the DB. So I won't do that. I'm also collecting data for the average rate per day and per week and might add these options soon as well.

Does any have suggestions on the labeling of the lines? '30 day average Lowest USD Liquidity Offer (% per day)' Is a bit long but I couldn't think of anything better that does describe the line properly. Let me know.

Maybe you can make it look like:

- Lowest USD Liquidity Offer
- Lowest USD Liquidity Offer (30d average)
- Highest USD Liquidity Demand
  (% per day)

The 1 minute interval seems to be not frequent enough. I lended out some 4000 USD @0.36 a couple of hours ago, but the "Lowest USD Liquidity Offer" shows a peak only at @0.33670 around that time.

Maybe you can request the order book more frequently if it doesn't hit API restriction.

Yes I know, it would be better to set a higher update frequency. I've contacted bitfinex about the api poll frequency. Hope to hear from them soon. I don't just want to increase the frequency before knowing I won't overload the api. Giancarlo has seen my site and appreciated what I built so I'm sure he or Raphael will get back at me when they have an oppurtinty. They've been working round the clock for the last couple of weeks (months) so it might take a bit before I hear from them. Till then I'll leave the update frequency as is.

Hi all,

I've added a little feature to the site. In the menu you'll find an entry called "Swap Return Calculator". You can use this to calculate what the return would be on a USD liquidity offer you place on Bitfinex.

This is what it does:

Fill in the number of days you want to offer liquidity, fill in the rate per day you want on your liquidity offer and fill in the USD amount you want to offer.

Either select the "Uninsured" or "Insured" button and the "Return per Day" and the "Return for the whole period" will show. The bitfinex fee (10% on uninsured swaps and 30% on insured swaps are taken into account when calculating the return). So the values shown are what you'll receive (on top of the amount you offered) in your bitfinex deposit wallet when you're liquidity offer were to be taken by a leverage trader.

Hope you'll find this little calculator useful. I for one will stop fiddling about with my good old spreadsheet to find out what what a liquidity offer might gain me.

cheers

ps thanks "Gordon Geeko" @ http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com for the feature request!

Hi bjornw,
great job !!

I have "hacked" your pages to have on the same page this different graphs that are very useful: the USD Highest liquidity chart and the price chart. I saw there is a really strict correlation bewteen the change of the price and the change of the Lowest USD liquidity demand.

I've created a static HTML file with two iframes with the different charts so that I can compare them easily. Maybe you can add it to your service, merging the data of the two graphs in a single one.

Great work!!

I've made nick32768 a graph, but to be honest, personally i'm not convinced what I could do with this correlation. I think it's not more than logical that there should be a correlation between the change of price and the peeks in liquify rates: if there is a rally going on more people will open a leveraged position, hence take a liquidity offer. So of course there is a correlation. Rally -> price goes up -> higher liquidity demand -> liquidity rate rises. (if someone thinks differently, please share your thoughts here).

anyway for anyone, like nick32768,  interested I've made a "BTC price - USD liquidity rate chart" :
http://www.bfxdata.com/graphLiquidityUSDPriceBTCUSDCombined.php

If anyone can give me a good reason (plus theory) to incorporate it to the main site I will, for the time being use the above link if you're interested

@ nick32768 not to burn your theory down, but I just don't see what I could do with it. Please add you're thoughts on why it's useful, maybe i'm just missing something Smiley Anyhow I really appreciate your input, so if you have more insight please do share them. I'm looking forward to to them

oh and on a side note I've just added liquidity stats pages for BTC / LTC (same as for USD).
A few considerations:
  • lend books is very "thin" for BTC and LTC liquidity swaps (i.e. very few offers and demands) so depth chart will be a bit hard to read. just click in the legend to hide bids or ask to get a better readable chart.
  • I've just today started collecting data for the lowest liquidity offer / highest liquidity demand for BTC an LTC so the graphs will look a bit odd the first couple of hours, they'll improve  by time (just like a good wine).

I the past days I noticed an increase of the lending rates when the bitcoin value was heading down. I expected exactly the opposite: lending rates going up when the price was rising.

Now there was the technical issue at Bitfinex + the price plunge and the open swaps positions in USD dropper from 21M to 15M, causing my theory to vanish.

In any case, when the market is moving, the rates changes quickly, so I find the chart useful in anycase.

Thanks again for your efforts!

Nick.

Hi all,

I've made some changes to the site. The page looked a bit cluttered, so I reorganised a bit now. Hope you all think the new layout is a bit better than the old one. Please let me know what you think about the changes. Other suggestions and feature requests are also greatly appreciated.

Cheers Bjorn

Hi,bjorn,

I have been visiting charts-bfxdata site quite often and found it really practically useful.
Today I read your "Anouncement: Bfxdata Android App", I own a android phone also, so I think it would be great thing to publish it in the Play Store for free for those who needs it.
Knowing also that you've been reaching the limits of your rhcloud server, if you can upgrade your webhost that certainly can vastly improve the update intervals of the data on the site.
Thanks so much for your great jobs, I would like to donate a bit to let the above mentioned matters be implemented in the near future.

0.1 btc already sent for 8 hours but still didn't reach

Don't know why, if Bitfinex lost it , I will resend it again.

I'm quite sure i's because it was a Bitfinex -> Bitfinex Transaction. Bitfinex handled the transaction from internal account to internal account, hence no actual BTC transaction took place. You should see a "completed" withdrawal in the withdraw page (click at the bottom on the "Recent deposit and withdrawals" button) should be there.

Hi bjornw,
great job !!

Nick.

(if someone thinks differently, please share your thoughts here).

anyway for anyone, like nick32768,  interested I've made a "BTC price - USD liquidity rate chart" :
http://charts-bfxdata.rhcloud.com/graphLiquidityUSDPriceBTCUSDCombined.php

  • I've just today started collecting data for the lowest liquidity offer / highest liquidity demand for BTC an LTC so the graphs will look a bit odd the first couple of hours, they'll improve  by time (just like a good wine).

 regard Bjorn

Hi bjorn,

I read this previous post in detail, I found I have the same keen interest as nick, especially on the Lowest USD Liquidity Offer and Price BTCUSD put on the same charts for comparision for which you made him.

http://charts-bfxdata.rhcloud.com/graphLiquidityUSDPriceBTCUSDCombined.php

http://i61.tinypic.com/347fa6e.jpg

So I try my best to give you "a good reason (plus theory) to incorporate it to the main site" .

Strictly speaking, it appears seems no explicit "correlation" between these two graphs, but as you know it, market price movement always involves all factors no matter we know it or not, ie known/ hidden, explicit/implicit, prices itself already reflecting everything it should involve.

Price is king on the market , price patterns always gives you the  signals for buying/selling as well as swap offering/demanding.

So prices in essence are the fundamental basis of market behavior for both liquidity swap offerer and taker, if there are no prices movement, there are certainly no liquidity swap activities and all kinds of psychological conditions and decision making that are originated from the prices movement.

Though at first look it seems no explicit "correlation" between these two graphs , but nobody can absolutely say there are no any "correlation" between these two graphs, that "correlation" couldn't always reveal itself at any time and any place on the chart, but maybe appears at some special time or location on the chart and that all depends on your own judgement or anything you regard it as justifiable and reasonable.

On the uncertain market, to find the seemingly certain regular pattern or kind of  "correlation", don't you think that is really full of exploring fun for those who find it intriguing?

So if you can incorporate "Price BTCUSD" to the main site for option, me and somebody who really loves to explore mystery of chart's correlation would be find it conveniently for comparision.

What do you think?  bjorn.

Edit: I find another persuasive reason to incorporate market price to the main site, simply that is you can just quick look at the BTCUSD market price and Lowest USD Liquidity Offer at a time and which is not relate to other things such as whether there are any "correlation" or not , if this can easily been done, then why not?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I will be adding a page or two with combined charts. Personally I find myself looking at the total swap sums vs price quite a lot recently (even without a combined chart) The sum tells me a bit about the market sentiment. If the total USD sum rises a lot, traders feel bullish and it's a nice indicator of where the price will go for a while. The other way around if the sum of BTC / LTC swaps increases suddenly, traders are shorting and expect the prices to drop for a while. Please let me know what other combinations you all like to see.
I'll add Nick's and Tsay's request and also my sum vs price (probably combined with average rate as an option) idea.

What other charts / tables you all would like to see added? Let me know here and share your thoughts like Nick and Tsay on why it is useful. Good ideas will be rewarded with a nice chart Wink

Hi bjorn, I'm having problem accessing your website from China. It seems your IP from rhclould is banned by the Chinese Great Firewall. I have to use a VPN/SSH to access it.

Another problem is 8 of 10 times, the "Bitfinex USD Swaps Stats USD" chart is blank while other parts are working good.

hi dahongfei,

I would love to help you, but I'm not sure what to do.... The chart not loading is probably because it's quite data intensive, so probably your vpn/ssh connection doesn't like that... I could render it all charts server side opposed to client side (what i'm doing at the moment), but the server is not really suited for that. it has trouble keeping up as it is at the moment. So handling rendering the charts will probably result in a slow site for all visitors.
So unless I get some more funds to pay for better hosting the service will be as it is. Feel free to chip in a few bitcoin pennies to the donation address and I will upgrade the web host. Sorry I can help you much further at the moment.

Hi Bjorn,
I think the simplest way to incorporate PriceBTCUSD to the main graph is as following.

Hi Bjorn,
I think the simplest way to incorporate PriceBTCUSD to the main graph is as following.
for your reference.

I considered doing that, but decided to add separate pages instead. I think it gets a bit messy if I combine too many options in one graph and on one page. I even made this monstrosity...

Also, the more data I add to a chart, the longer it takes to load, I think people using slower connections or need to connect from China, like dahongfei, wouldn't be able to load all the charts anymore. So new pages was what I decided on.

The "Swaps + Price Charts" menu entries now show three charts to analyse Price and Swap statistics:
  • Price + lowest swap offer / highest swap demand
  • Price + Sum Active BTC / USD Swaps
  • Price + Average rate on Active BTC / USD Swaps (=ffr)

Hope you all find good use for the new pages.

hi all,

little update:

Added FRR series to the last offer/demand Swap Charts, since Swap rates are heavely influanced by FRR rates.

Added a couple of proffit/loss calculators to the site. These calculators will help the Bitfinex traders to calculate profits or losses on long positions or short positions, for both BTC and LTC.
By specifying your current maker and taker fees, the number of coins and the price to open a position, the calculator outputs a 'Break Even Price' (the price to close the position without any profit/loss after paying fees) and tables displaying possible profits / losses when closing the position at a certain price. The trader can specify if he will do a market order (taker fee) or a limit order (maker fee) and these fees will be taken into account, according to the specified maker and taker fees.

  • Break Even Price: the price to close the position without profit/loss after paying opening and closing fees
  • Buy Amount (USD): the total USD amount to open the position (including the fees to open the position)
  • Buy Fee: the fees payed for opening the position
  • Sell @:   the price to close the position at
  • Price Diff.: the USD difference between the buy price and the sell price
  • Profit USD: the profit of the trade in USD after paying opening and closing fees
  • Profit %: the profit of the trade in percentage after paying opening and closing fees
  • Order Return: the total amount in USD returned to your account’s balance after closing the position
  • Sell Fee: the fees payed for closing the position

Hope you'll find the calculators useful. I've added a little "help section" (link next to the 'Caclulate' Button) to further explain how to use them and what formula I used. If anyone feels like doing some maths on their own and spots a flaw in my calculations please do let me know and I'll adjust it, if any.

Long calculator: http://www.bfxdata.com/bitfinexLongPositionCalculator.php
Short calculator: http://www.bfxdata.com/bitfinexShortPositionCalculator.php
(or just use the 'calculators' menu on the navigation bar.

Nice tool.

How about tracking the icbit.se future price on the BTC/USD contract?  Or more specifically the market premium of the contract (eg. the contract price minus the current BTC/USD price).

I think the premium might be correlated with the USD swap rate.

Don't day trade.

A past flexible swap interest calculator would be nice.  What is the cumulative interest for a specified time period?   This is useful because the interest rate can spike - so averaging it out would be useful.

For instance, I'd like to be able to calculate what interest rate I earned since the beginning of the month.

you mean based on FRR for the last n days? so what was the FRR over de past n days and what was my return on Swaps @ frr for a given amount and specified period? interesting suggestion, quite a lot of coding I think Smiley

Hi Bjorn, would you please check out my idea for visualizing the swaps order book?

tl;dr: use a grid (days vs. rate), hue (offer vs. demand), transparency (amount), and interactions to aggregate across cells.

Thanks for an amazing site!

As far as money problems, why don't you ask bitfinex for money.  I mean they even reference you on their website.  Or why not ask them to host it? Smiley

The top chart in swap stats isn't loading for me, except for LTC. Is this one of the glitches that's mentioned in the news section that will be fixed?

It'd be fascinating to track USD swap demand over time.  Especially now that it drastically increased. I don't recall total USD swap demand (at near market rates) even being $1 million, and now it is $8.5 million.

I've seen this demand disappear without being used, so I'm wondering if it is real or if it some weird form of market manipulation (of either the swap market or BTC).  I'm guessing it is real.

Don't day trade.

It's a bit tricky as I wouldn't necessarily want the extreme values (like demand at 0.01%/day) to contaminate the results.  So it might be good to break this into four charts
1) total volume of demands
2) total volume of offers
3) volume of demands within say 50% of the FRR  (so if the FRR is 0.2%, then everything from 0.1% to 0.2%) AND all the demand that is higher than the FRR (which isn't being met due to the length)
4) volume of offers within 100% of the FRR (so if the FRR is 0.2%, then everything from 0.2% - 0.4%)  AND all the offers that are lower than the FRR which aren't being met due to the length

Don't day trade.

Tracking the Bitfinex BTC price difference vs Bitstamp would be nice.  Though possibly too much work as it would involve a second API (and more of a matter for sites like Bitcoinwisdom).

Most of the time it settles down to a couple dollar difference, but over a week ago there was a $20-$30 premium that lasted for at least a day.

well the multiple api thing isn't much of a problem, but what information will it give us ? What does a price difference between stamp and finex represent? Personally I  can't really tell. Differences started after finex stopped routing orders to bitstamp and afterwards we saw a similar price difference we were used to with btc-e vs stamp but now between stamp and finex. So if someone can give me a good explanation of why the price differences between exchanges over time (I can add btc-e in the mix as well) is useful, I will start tracking it (arbitrage?) Well, give me your thoughts and convince me and I'll add it to bfxdata

Some people see a price gap as evidence of a problem at one of the exchanges.  This was definitely true of MtGox and the withdrawal delays which ended up in bankruptcy.

If the price gap is more than 1-2% and persists in a regular (non-bull) market - then it is evidence that something is wrong as arbitragers should be able to decrease the gap to that level.

Some people (on the forum and reddit) have been guessing that Bitstamp is having problems - but so far there isn't solid evidence.

I'd give this more priority if the price gap becomes an issue in the future.

Hi all,

Just like to share a little update on bfxdata.com. I have just finished a little project I've been working on. I've added 3 new pages to bfxdata.com: Live Swaps for USD, BTC and LTC. The new pages wil give you a real-time view on bitfinex Swaps. So no more highest demand / lowest offer as an indicator of what the current Swap rates might be, but charts based on actual Swap transactions taking place between swap provider and margin trader. Just check out the pages and I think it will be more or less self explanatory when you see them. If not, do let me know. Big thanks to the Bitfinex team for providing me with the swap transaction data!

regards Bjorn

Wow great. I'm working on (made my own Python API lib) Bitfinex API for several day, especially to monitor swaps. Estimate earning, alert when something is wrong, alert when a swap lending will finish...

Seeing your new page, I noticed mismatch between your web interface and records I get from "Lends" API: https://api.bitfinex.com/v1/lends/usd
Quote
Lends
GET /lends/:currency
Get a list of the most recent swaps data for the given currency: total amount lent and Flash Return Rate (in % by 365 days) over time.
Response
An array of dictionaries
rate (decimal, % by 365 days): Average rate of total swaps opened at fixed rates
amount_lent (decimal): Total amount of open swaps in the given currency
timestamp (time)

That gives:
Quote
Latest Lend Rate:
Rate , Amount, Date
0.1657% , 30299688.26 , 14:23:29 09/Jul/2014
0.1657% , 30284681.40 , 13:23:36 09/Jul/2014
0.1658% , 29756298.65 , 12:23:44 09/Jul/2014
0.1659% , 29753105.97 , 11:23:51 09/Jul/2014
0.1659% , 29699328.50 , 10:23:37 09/Jul/2014
0.1659% , 29699910.93 , 09:23:48 09/Jul/2014
0.1659% , 29751029.92 , 08:23:32 09/Jul/2014
0.1660% , 29696461.29 , 07:23:44 09/Jul/2014
0.1659% , 29677436.69 , 06:23:33 09/Jul/2014

Then I understand why you state : "Big thanks to the Bitfinex team for providing me with the swap transaction data!" Wink

So great job, very useful for me. They just share publicly "aggregate mean" data for lending. Additionally to show data in a clear way, your website gets data that we cannot normally get Wink Congratulations!

New menu system doesn't work for me in Firefox. Click on menu - get list of top level menu options.   Click on one of them - nothing happens.

Also - I liked the old USD swap view - notably the chart of outstanding USD swaps (and FRR) vs time.  That's my favorite chart!

Would be awesome to somehow have an option to filter graphs by duration i.e. if i want to borrow on a 30day term i could care less how many millions are offered on 2day terms and want to see 30day demand/offers graph. Right now i have to manually scroll through pages of USD swap offers to manually spot one for 30 days

I'm actually working on this. I'm adding a feature where the user can select a period (2d <> 30d) and the swaps stats page will display all tables and charts for the selected period.

Yes, but not till the price starts going up. Even if the price crashes the swap rate will go up while the price is recovering. I do think in the long term the rate will continue to go down as more people with money use the site as even 0.1%/day is absurdly good by most standards (~44% APR if compounded daily). At this rate you could even take out a bank loan and loan it out and still make a profit. That said, while the price is going down I'm putting some cash in bitcoin-trader https://bitcoin-trader.biz/?ref=dhorks since they've been paying ~0.8%/day lately.

Thanks for the tip on btc trader. Are they Trustworthy.

Depends who you ask. I've used them for about 5 months now and they have made every payment (every weekday except for bank holidays) and at the end of each 120 day term I have received my principle back. The website is clean and looks good. Their customer service is prompt and they have a facebook group in which several of the employees respond to questions and comments daily. They have also sponsored multiple major bitcoin conferences and are currently part of a cross-country (USA only) promotional tour. They are also planning to undergo and audit near the end of August, carried out by a London accounting firm (the CEO is based out of London). So yes, I think they are trustworthy.

If you look around the forums, you will see a lot of people calling them a HYIP scam, but in my opinion, most of these people have not actually investigated the website too closely and think the daily return is too good to be true or they are trying to promote some other competing website.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. I feel like I shouldn't be clogging up this thread.

TY Derek. I myself talked to BFX owner Raphael quite a lot and therefore I am sure they are not scam. BFX has been the most reliable BitCoin Exchange I ever witnessed, even if compared to the uber-trustworthy bitcoin.de or very liquid bitcoin24 (who are long done).

So I value your insight about BitCoin Trader a lot, thanks mate. (if there are too many referral links in this text for your taste, you are probably correct =oP)

A past flexible swap interest calculator would be nice.  What is the cumulative interest for a specified time period?   This is useful because the interest rate can spike - so averaging it out would be useful.

For instance, I'd like to be able to calculate what interest rate I earned since the beginning of the month.

Just added it Smiley

Thanks!

Now I'm probably too picky, but why the 30 day max limit?  I'd like to calculate earnings from the beginning of the year.  I don't think it will be too cpu intensive.

I'd also be happy to use just an approximate daily average rate (and have a tiny bit of error) if that'd be easier to do and allow for a longer date range.

Maybe a bit late, but I've just added two new pages to the sentiment menu to keep track of price differences between the different exchanges:

  • a page displaying the BTCUSD 1 minute ticker prices of Bitfinex, Bitstamp and BTC-e
  • a page displaying the LTCUSD 1 minute ticker prices of Bitfinex and BTC-e

Hi all,

I've just finished a new landing page for http://BFXdata.com

The new page shows you an organized collection of the most important Bitfinex stats. Both for trading and for Total Return Swaps, all in one page so you'll have an instant overview of whats going on on Bitfinex at the moment (and for the last 24h).

hope you'll like it, let me know. Also suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Cheers Bjorn

ps. Maybe you'll have to clear your web browser's cache to land on the new page (I removed a redirect on the server) direct link: http://www/bfxdata.com/index.php

basically 1366px wide and higher (15" wide screen laptop). Also there is a threshold for full HD screens. I know on smaller screens it isn't looking at it's best.

I want to make the site more responsive but up to now I decided it be better to provide more stats, rather than making sure the sites looks ok on all possible screen resolutions. I will address this, just hadn't had the time to do so.

Hi Steve

I'll add it to my todolist Wink thanks for the suggestion! BTW what would you want to use the csv data for? It seems you like to be able to do more analysis on the data. What sort of analysis would you do? Maybe the things you'd like to be able to do might be useful for other visitors as well an it might be worth adding as a feature to bfxdata.com. let me know.

A few reasons:

  • One thing is that it's a bit of a pain trying to use Highcharts to zoom into specific areas of interest. It's also sometimes tricky to see exactly what data points that you have. It would be easier and more flexible if you could just grab the raw numbers & chart in Excel.
  • Another idea would be to run some technical analysis on different series, and look for patterns/indicators. Quite what this is would be difficult to say until I find it.

Anyway - if you can add it, that would be great. In any case I sent you a small tip.

thanks

I'm going to ask the most noobish questions ever asked...I think I have the answers already but want to confirm.

USD swaps = loans taken by people who are going long?

BTC swaps = loans taken by people going short?

LTC swap = loans taken by people shorting LTC

and to go long on LTC again just a USD swap.

Is this correct?

Should be ok again now. I changed some things on the server, and something was wrong with caching.

actually no it shouldn't... on my side it's displaying data until oktober 6th 13:46 UTC (which is currently the latest available total active swap data from bitfinex api)... could you empty caches of your browser?
I'll look into it a bit more...

EDIT: I think clearing your browser's cache should actually fix it. please let me know if you still have issues

I think it'd be great if you could add the total dpeths of order books in the "widgets" on first page.

This can be retrieved by opening a single chart, say BTCUSD, and scrolling the asks book to top and bids book to bottom but this is a bit un comfortable with long books, also any updates reset the two books to showing the spread.

It it's already there and I just couldn't find please let me know.

That apart the site looks very good now, the home page (the one with the widgets) is doing a terric job at summing up a lot of useful info.

Are the widgets embeddable in external website?

Hey there!

Awesome job with the info. It's amazing and I have it open on my browser constantly.

2 suggestions on my end

1: show the price in the tab view.

2: chances of an OSX widget for dashboard?

Those are just my 2 cents Smiley

Good job!

I've been asked this before and am planning to add an option to export data as csv, just hadn't had a chance to build it

I think it'd be great if you could add the total dpeths of order books in the "widgets" on first page.
Will consider it, but so many other things todo Smiley

Are the widgets embeddable in external website?

Nope, I might build something like that, but will be a low priority for now

Hey there!

1: show the price in the tab view.

2: chances of an OSX widget for dashboard?

1) you mean when you have multiple tabs open in your browser, the title of the tab displays the current price right? Already on my todo list
2) Never made a os x widget before, however you could make your own custom widget by using (in safari) 'file' -> 'open in Dashboard' -> select the part of the page you like as a widget in your dashboard -> 'add' et voila! your very own bfxdata widget Smiley Just tested it myself, works really well, was a bit surprised myself how useful it is Smiley thanks!

Man, where are the people bitching about minor missing features they could add themselves?  The conspiracy theories about who "bjornw" really is?  The flamewars about Bitfinex vs Bitstamp vs the Chinese exchanges vs the Fed?  This thread is all just love and appreciation and a whole bunch of excellent hard work.  Internet, you're losing your edge.

Thanks for the feedback, thought I tested it thorough enough, but missed some bugs Wink. I slightly modified the scripts. Think it should be better now. It doesn't highlight new or removed offers/demands for now, as that was the bottleneck. Will look into that later

Could you track swaps closed in the past 1 hour and 24 hours?  You might be able to calculate it based on the swaps now, swaps one hour ago, and opened swaps in the past hour.

It might be nice to compare swaps opened vs swaps closed for the past hour and 24 hours.

The best I found about it is the full trades file from bitcoincharts, you get that and resample it to the time frame you want.

Bfxdata doesn't provide an actual data feed but metrics on those.

So on bitcoincharts, I would go to each day and download the minute data and then consolidate.  Thanks for the suggestion - it may take a long time (since they don't let you download to large of a batch at once) but it is a solution!  Smiley

I'm not sure to understand what you meant there, what have "days" to do with what I suggested?

A trade level file contains info about all trades that were completed on the exchange.
Bitcoincharts allows to download the file all at once, google for "bitcoincharts api csv".

It has to do with BFXdata not being SSL (https) and tradingview is. I'll fix it in the next few days. You could try using a different browser (chrome, firefox) for the time being.

Hey Bjorn

I would appreciate it if you would read my post I wrote about using the data your site provides here. I think you will understand my point of view within the first few sentences because of the shortcomings of your site in what I've found to be my personal requirement for this sort of data.

I'd appreciate a response from you, either on this site, on reddit, or a message to me on Tradingview. Cheers m8

Could you check if you still experience the issue you described? I have added SSL to BFXdata.com. You may have to clear your web browser's cache. Please let me know if it is resolved.

Hello, you incorrectly have DASH Listed as Darkcoin on your website (using  the abbreviation DRK).

Darkcoin was officially re-branded to DASH - here is the announcement.

I believe the new abbreviation is DASH. Would be great if you could update your website to reflect the change.

I wonder why I found your site today and not much-much earlier. Thanks a lot for your service!

I have two questions:
(1) You do not explain/write out the abbreviations you use (why?). I cannot deduce the meaning of "volex". I expect "vol" means volatility. But what means "ex" then? Exchange? Can you help me out what volex is and how it is calculated?
(2) Presenting long vs. short swap information is a great idea. FOr the short run (1-24hours) you present the ratio of short vs. long pretty nicely. For the long run, however, you add long and short swaps to one figure and chart the sum. This is kind of meaningless to me. Could you provide the charts with information on short AND long swaps instead of their sum?

Since the recent update to the main/live USD swap stats page I've been having trouble with one of the scripts sporadically locking up and putting my whole browser (Firefox v34.0.5) into a "Not Responding" state until the script is killed or the tab is closed. I would ordinarily leave it open in a background tab but after a while everything freezes up for a moment then Firefox asks me if I want to halt/continue/debug "Script: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js:2"

I'm sure I've also seen some oddities where the 'Total' column in the swap offers table doesn't match up with the graph, but I've yet to really catch that one in action to properly document it.

So it's been a while, but I'm still having this problem... any time I leave bfxdata open for very long it eventually (sometimes actually quite quickly) locks up my browser for a moment before I'm asked to kill the script. When I do so it typically stays locked for another few seconds before asking me again to kill the script and then after that comes back to responding normally. If I then leave the page open the process repeats a few minutes later.

Slightly different error message though - "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue. Script: https://ajax.googleapis.com/aj…bs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js:2 -- [Continue, Debug Script, Stop script]"
I'm having this issue too.  I've disabled all of my Chrome extensions to make sure nothing else was interfering, but you're not the only one having this problem.

What a great resource. I've recently started writing an analysis tool and found the data you're providing to be very useful. Thanks!

Looks like the charts, at least for https://bfxdata.com/swapstats/usd (maybe others, I haven't checked) are having some issues with the FRR.

The sidebar has the correct number listed under "FRR (% day)" but the bottom chart has the vertical line stuck at 0.05161, and has had it stuck there for some time.

I think the same stuck variable might also have been affecting the top chart, and the "Last opened Margin Funding" list. Have seen funding getting recorded in the list and on the chart at exactly 0.05161% when the actual FRR was substantially lower and so far as I can tell from the Bitfinex interface no funding was actually taken at that rate, so my suspicion is that "funding taken at FRR" was being translated into "taken at 0.05161%".

Can you please increase the duration since Ether's inception? Right now it displays only 1 week duration, it would be nice if it displays since the beginning. Smiley

Small tip sent.  Had no idea this puppy existed but glad I've found it now.  Particularly like the Swaps Calculator (Fixed Interest) but would love to see it for other 3x available currency pairs.

Keep up the great work.  Like the Long vs Short Sentiment page as well very slick.

Now that Ethereum Classic margin trading is implemented, it would be good to see ETC margin stats. From what I see, turnover for this market already surpassed ETH quite a bit.

I know the site is dedicated to BFX, but have you considered adding Poloniex?  Notably their BTC swap rates which have the tendency to occasionally spike due to all the alt-coins that they trade.

Don't day trade.

Historical views for Margin Trading apparently down (at least for me) and has been since the finex 'hack'.

Good job OP, you did a great work on that website.

The design is too white and it is hard to navigate with my eyes on the digits, you should edit the design, make a darker version and highlight important digits.

+1 this request most debinately.  If you had something along the lines of a Dark theme available (similar to finex) it would definitely be alot easier on the eyes of us night owls Wink

In chrome 57, I have a huge memory leak, after some time opening https://www.bfxdata.com/orderbooks/bfxusd the memory footprint is >1GB (chrome task manager) and keeps growing.

Thanks for your work!

Please can you also include the following data:

  • Realtime Totals for both Asks and Bids.
  • Realtime Graphs of the above two Totals (a 24 hour window would suffice here).

I think the above will give users a clearer view of what both the Order Book and Sell Books are doing.
I'm mostly interested in ETH/USD.

Thanks for the great work!
