ATTN: Those seeking 5830/5850 cards...

I know people are saying that these are all but phased out at the major known/legitimate online retailers. However one place where I still see a consistent supply of these cards is at Amazon. They actually have a variety of 5830 cards and yes, some are very overpriced, but keep checking on a regular basis and you'll find brand new 5830 cards listed from $130 to $160, which is very legitimate for this card seeing as it is not unreasonable to assume a 320Mh/s performance from it, which gives you at least 2 Mh/$ from this card. New 5850 cards seem to be a bit more uncommon than the 5830s and also not as competitively priced, but they do come up on occasion.

Anything close to $150 is not legitimate. 6870's go for about 150 and they get the same megahash and require less electricity.

Very close, but 5830s do cap out a bit higher than 6870s. Mine peaks above 340Mh/s, for example, and I know many owners get even more out of theirs. While it's not by much, the 5830s have a little bit of a performance edge over the 6870.

Then again, as you said the 6870 drawing less power may offset the difference in performance.

However, I'm having trouble finding a 6870 card at $150. The ones I've come up with on the usual places seem to bottom out at $170. Newegg has some that go for $155 if you're willing to wait for the mail-in rebate, but at that price the 5830 seems the better choice with no rebates to wait for.

there's only a few 5830s available to choose from, and they only have one or two in stock of each one, and these are sold by other resellers that go through amazon, it's not directly from amazon. consistent supply means that they should be able to have enough so you can buy mass supplies from them, not just one or two.

i would love to think amazon has a bunch of these left, but just accept that fact that these cards are all but dried up by now.

that's what the situation is right now, most of the 5830s in stock only have 1 or 2 left, but the consistency is there. i've been watching these cards for weeks now and there is almost always a reasonably priced 5830 and, slightly less frequently, 5850 available. i'd encourage you to keep checking if you don't like what's there now.
