Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

SHA-256? No thanks! But I am sure you will attract some kids with their ASICs.
It doesn't add anything to what we already have but at least the block reward is lower at launch

We're giving it a try! Why not?  Wink

Also we've been working on a scrypt-based coin in the background for some time now but it's not yet ready as we put our efforts on this one for now. You will hear about it eventually Grin

Teamunicoin, could you please tell us in advance how to write the .conf file for solo-mining so that we will be ready for time X ?

One more question just to be clear: in the announcement you said "January the 1st @ Midinight GMT-5", do you mean the midnight between December 31st and January the 1st, right ? (I'm asking this because - being fiscal - Midnight could be the 24:00 of the 1st and so the 00:00 of the 2nd of January and not the 00:00 of January the 1st as I image you planned the start of operations).

I will write the .conf template soon Massimo, finishing some details on the wallet right now.

About the release time, it will be in the night of December 31st to January 1st, it will be launched at the same time as the Fireworks for the new year!  Smiley

Thanks for the good luck, I'll stay confident about this whole SHA256 thing.  Wink

For the Scrypt-lovers, as I said earlier, we're working on a Scrypt little brother for this coin but won't be released now as there is still a lot of work to do and we'd like to focus on Unicoin at the moment.

To avoid confusion it would be nice if exchange, mining pools, forums, wallet programs, etc. all use always GMT (+0) or UT (the same as GMT) !!! In this way everyone of us knows his timezone and can convert correctly the time without doubts.

Edit:
Cryptocurrencies are or are not international ? What is the internationally known time ? GMT / UT !!!

Please please please help ! I can't mine.

I'm running the wallet in a Win7 PC and I have a RaspeberryPi with some Block Erupters connected to an USB hub. The PC and the RaspberryPI are on the same network, both connected to a modem-router.
The question is:
What must I write in the .conf file in the PC ?
What should be the parameter -o in cgminer ?

TY in advance for your help.

To everyone, the pool seem to work now!

URL: http://unic.altminers.com
Make an account there, create a worker and fill your cgminer configuration file like so:
./cgminer  -o stratum+tcp://unic.altminers.com:5444 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password

Yep i can't install on linux either Sad

Code:

alert.cpp:263:1: fatal error: opening dependency file obj/alert.d: No such file or directory

No problem installing any other wallets so I assume i have the dependencies?

Any help would be great cheers Smiley

To everyone, the pool seem to work now!

URL: http://unic.altminers.com
Make an account there, create a worker and fill your cgminer configuration file like so:
./cgminer  -o stratum+tcp://unic.altminers.com:5444 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password
I register...and got locked right away...wtf.
Did you get an e-mail to confirm your email? I've seen this problem happening sometimes, 1 miner out of 100
I checked and apparently I did get an email. Used link to confirm and tried logging in. Same problem.

I unlocked your account manually, sorry about that.

I wish I could answer the Raspberry Pi guy.

Anyways...I'm not sure what error you guys are getting, but most of the shares are accepted...hopefully not orphaned though...any way to check?

Remove the *--scrypt* from your cgminer command line

I already haven't that option in the command and it doesn't work.

I copied a small script I succesfully used many times before changing only the pool address and the worker. It doesn't work. I don't know why, but in this case is not my fault.

I'm using now cgiminer in verbose mode.

I get "Share above target" when the share is below the target and a "Rejected share (share is above target)" when the share is really above target and should be accepted (ex Diff 58/16).  Huh

compilation terminated.

No problem installing any other wallets so I assume i have the dependencies?

Any help would be great cheers Smiley

Its not you, the code for this wallet is utter rubbish. For some reason you have to create the obj directory in the src dir manually. NFI how you will get on after that, I never managed to get the console wallet built. I got the QT one working fine by manually editing the LIBS line since it was full of Windows BS after the qmake unicoin-qt.pro command.

Also same thing here I have never had an issue with any other wallet. This one is just 100% amateur time. Also make sure to add LIBS+="-lleveldb -lmemenv" to your make command so it uses system libs rather than whatever junk the dev threw in there.

Hey thanks for that. It's looking like a coin that's probably not worth it! The website  looked pretty good too assumed they'd put some effort in to it

Yep i can't install on linux either Sad

Code:
make -f makefile.unix
g++ -c -O2 -pthread -Wall -Wextra -Wformat -Wformat-security -Wno-unused-parameter -g -DBOOST_SPIRIT_THREADSAFE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -I/home/cshelswell/Documents/unicoin/src -I/home/cshelswell/Documents/unicoin/src/obj -DUSE_UPNP=0 -DUSE_IPV6=1 -I/home/cshelswell/Documents/unicoin/src/leveldb/include -I/home/cshelswell/Documents/unicoin/src/leveldb/helpers -DHAVE_BUILD_INFO -fno-stack-protector -fstack-protector-all -Wstack-protector -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2  -MMD -MF obj/alert.d -o obj/alert.o alert.cpp
alert.cpp:263:1: fatal error: opening dependency file obj/alert.d: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make: *** [obj/alert.o] Error 1

It took me a while to setup a coin to compile with QT 5, I didn't throw anything anywhere, I'm using the same libs as everyone else, Boost, BerkeleyDB, openssl

You have leveldb.zip inside the git repo. You are using leveldb headers of your own. You require permissions modification of files to even start to compile. You are linking against your own leveldb files rather than system ones. The qmake still trys to link against mingw files rather than system ones. Id say you threw a whole lot of stuff all over the place.

if i remove --scrypt i get shares above target. If I use --scrypt, I get normal accepts, almost all accepts. but pool shows accepts, but weird charts. And pool hasnt found any block at all. where are the blocks going? is this even scryptcoin or sha256?

I think you should add

rpcallowip=127.0.0.1

in your .conf file.

This is valid if the wallet and the miner programs are running on the same PC, otherwise you should change the IP address with the IP address of the PC where the miner is running.

I'm on the altminers pool, getting tons of accepts, 0 rejects and 0 hardware errors. Pool estimates 2k/UNI day, but I'm not seeing any coins come in on Unconfirmed, plus pool says there were no blocks solved yet. Is this normal?

No............this is an error

Blocks 0-360: 0.2014 UNIC*
Blocks 361-1000: 1 UNIC*

Were correct. (And we are already in the 2014 Year)

Blocks 1001 and Over: 16 UNIC
Is not Correct

Special Block Rewards:
When the block number will be a multiple of 16. Ex. Block numbers  32,64 and 128 will give a Special reward
1st year: 24 UNIC

It Is Correct

Blocks over 1000 will give a standard reward of 16 UNIC  Roll Eyes (a Typo error i'm sure  Wink)

And Block Time is completedly Wrong : 4 Minutes Blocks, we are at block 2200 (8800 minutes = 6+ Days). Coin was launched yesterday........ Roll Eyes

LOL!  Grin

main.cpp from Unicoin
Code:
1311 static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 240; // 4 Minutes
1312 static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 60; // 1 Minute

1 Minute blocks.

EDIT: Opps forgot the code below that.
Code:
1313 static const int64 nInterval = nTargetTimespan / nTargetSpacing; // 1/4 blocks
1314
1315 static const int64 nAveragingInterval = nInterval * 10; // 40 blocks
1316 static const int64 nAveragingTargetTimespan = nAveragingInterval * nTargetSpacing; // 1 hour 20 minutes
nAveragingTargetTimespan = 2400 / 60 = 40 minutes.

Retarget every 40 blocks?

Quote
src/main.cpp: (How *should* blocks be found and how often difficulty retargets)

 LINE 837 static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 120; // FooCoin: 2 minute blocks
 LINE 836 static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 1 * 24 * 60 * 60; // FooCoin: 1 days
In this example, we want our coin to produce 1 coin blocks every 2 minutes and readjust difficulty once per day (1 day x 24 hours x 60 minutes x 60 seconds). You can adjust these, but know since this is a scrypt clone and we're not changing the starting difficulty this target rate will be skewed until the hash rate levels out on your new coin. This is tricky stuff and I don't quite understand all of it yet.

I have configured and mined  bitcoin litecoin asiccoin zetacoin tigercoin unobtanium fireflycoin joulecoin bytecoin and others, both solo and pooled. I have had no success with either for this coin, even getting the client to sync. No matter how I change the .conf around etc.

Are there problems with the UniCoin blockchain? I have had to rebuild twice in 48 hours due to transactions locking up. Once I rebuild there are a lot of transactions remain unconfirmed ....

Any idea's?

Hello! Send me a message.

It just sync with this:
rpcuser=yourusername
rpcpassword=yourpassword
listen=1
server=1
daemon=1
rpcport=50666
addnode=96.20.39.20
addnode=89.200.140.78
addnode=5.249.152.159
connect=89.200.140.78
irc=1
addnode=96.20.39.20:50667
addnode=89.200.140.78:50667
addnode=5.249.152.159:50667

it takes like 1-5 mins before it syncs:

then i would change it back to:
rpcuser=yourusername
rpcpassword=yourpassword
listen=1
server=1
daemon=1
rpcport=50666
addnode=96.20.39.20
addnode=89.200.140.78
addnode=5.249.152.159
#connect=89.200.140.78
irc=1
addnode=96.20.39.20:50667
addnode=89.200.140.78:50667
addnode=5.249.152.159:50667

Msg me if you want me to put anything here.

still doesn't work. I am mining in a pool with payouts set to 0 (so they do not send to my offchain wallet) and listed the address from my unsynced wallet in case I do manage to get it working.   I tried this conf exactly (both ways) and no luck so far. I have tried editing other confs that work for other coins (with nodes and ports changed ofc) still no luck. I am thankful for the help but wonder if anyone knows why this is so hard to sync, what the issue is? should I save the wallet file and reinstall the client etc?

Unable to sync here too...

At this point I have tried everything in this and other threads. I have gotten tricky wallets to sync, scrypt and asic. This is ridiculous, the developer needs to get involved. If miners cannot configure a wallet for payments, how is a user supposed to use it? I have had an easier time resetting nodes and data on forked blockchains etc than just syncing this wallet in the first place. I like this coin actually, and have, even without a wallet been aiming some gh at it etc, just storing the coins in the pool for now. I just cannot see either a serious exchange or regular coin users adopting this coin if the main thread is nothing but people asking for help with wallets that will not load etc. Maybe a client update is in order after going over it and doing a few tests? I dunno.   If anyone had the syncing issues and successfully resolved them please post exactly what you did. maybe I am missing something simple.

Is there a Unicoin faucet going around? I have Unicoin on the Altcoin Shorties (http://faeriedark.com/the-altcoin-shorties/) but if there isn't a faucet or an exchange, it's kinda pointless to include it because I can't give any of it away. Smiley

yeah I have coins in a pool but cannot send them to myself or to anyone nor can I receive coins. Without dev support for the wallet or an exchange they are stuck, until this is fixed or all miners wander off..

Thanks! If this wants to be a serious coin, it shouldn't be so difficult to get the wallet to sync.  I've been waiting for many days, checking two forums, but nothing... Not a good way to start...

got it to sync after several variations. deleting everything in roaming/unicoin/ (except wallet.dat) and reopening the client, then closing it and adding this .conf worked.

I am currently mining it. If it comes back to life, the low difficulty will equal a good move, if it dies off only a little time has been wasted. Either way I still like this coin, and after finally getting the wallet to sync, I want to fill it up a little ^^

Hopefully the dev replies here/supports the coin etc. If it goes on an exchange could be fun. Smiley
