I am selling 0.1 BTC you must have a paypal account and I must receive payment before they are sent. Once I receive the money in my Paypal account I will send the BTC immediately. I am not a scammer or someone trying to rip people off I would be doing it for more if I was just need the money now and this is a good way for me to get it. An escrow is someone (much) more trustworthy than any of the 2 trading partners, to which you both have to send your funds before receiving. When he receives both, he keeps a small fee for his service and completes the requested trade.

If one of the trade partners intends to scam, he will never get the money because he doesn't have the advantage of sending last. If he does not hold up his part of the deal, the escrower refunds who sent, after a while.
