The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

VIPcoin is a cryptocurrency born to be used by famous people around the globe. Celebrities, high rollers, major employers, wealthy individuals and any other notable person will be able to use VIPcoins to spend in luxury things, VIP clubs... It may seem like every other alt-coin out there but this coin is intended for use, unlike many others. A VIP is a person who is accorded special privileges and like to spend money like crazy. If we find the correct products to offer, VIPcoin will be very popular.
what? a coin for rich people to buy expensive products but neither do these rich people know or care nor are there any expensive products to spend the coins on. and why would you announce the coin here? you'll only attract poor peasants who'll steal the precious vipcoins from the rich and beautiful with their poor peasant mining rigs.

Wallet? using linux client btw - you guys will crack up but there are already 1100+ blocks mined (i.e., 500k coins). I've hit 3 but they were all orphaned. I think these guys have a private network going and aren't sharing to the public quite yet.

I think these guys have a private network going and aren't sharing to the public quite yet. Maybe. I think everyone jumped on it around the same time. I was able to compile it quickly and get 16 blocks in about a minute, then nothing after that. Net hash rate spiked pretty quick, so I don't think they were mining "early", maybe they had a private pool ready and waiting? ETA: as I was typing, I found another block

The source code can be built on Windows with freely available tools. Linux users are used to this. Windows users are used to having everything provided as a binary, ready to run. There's no reason you can't do it on Windows, you just haven't needed to yet. Something to consider is that this is still a growing community where early adopters are expected to have some "additional" technical knowledge. As the currency matures, so will the tools. Windows wallets will come if there is a viable future for the coin. Your average crypto users won't be mining. They don't need to start mining a coin within an hour of release. The mass adoption can afford to wait until a refined windows wallet is released. I guess in short, as a miner, expect to do some leg work to stay ahead of the game.

It took about 4 minutes to compile the wallet, which I did while setting up the .conf file and a launch script for cgminer. It didn't take any longer than downloading a binary.

You can run Linux on it, compile the linux QT wallets and just run them as an RPC server for your Windows cgminer machines? This is basically what I do anyway. My desktop is running Debian with the QT wallets. The mining rigs running Ubuntu point to the desktop if I'm solo mining.

If you mine from the same PC as the wallet, you can usually just use the .conf example provided by the dev. You will want to adjust the username/password fields and remember the RPC port. First, start the wallet, then start cgminer with the url of " http://127.0.0.1:<rpcport>" instead of "stratum+tcp://...." as you would with pool mining. If you are mining from a different machine, you will want to add: rpcallowip=<mining-rig-ip> You can use wildcards also. I usually set it to: rpcallowip=192.168.1.* Same cgminer startup as before, but using the ip/hostname of the machine running the wallet.

I have a new github account started and I was going to re-up the source, but if you want to take over I have no problem with that. If the dev is really leaving (let's give him a chance first) maybe we can fork out the premine?

Mainly just people complaining about no precompiled wallet. It was only about 6 months ago that if you released a precompiled wallet everyone was up in arms, they wanted the source. No premine means the dev has no coins so why put up with all the complaints. Good luck to you.

At least we can maintain it for now, just by keeping the source and wallets available. If someone else wants to take it over, they can.

How else was he planning on covering the bounties? Yes, please make new thread with wallet and source for this coin. Code here int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees) { int64 nSubsidy = 500 * COIN; return nSubsidy + nFees; }

How long does it takes to see the mined Coins in the wallet if i find a block? you should see a notification pop up in your system tray with how much was found, and it will display in your wallet as unconfirmed. you can track the confirmations in your transactions tab. it should be damn near instantaneous. your cgminer will also say accepted block.

only 1 connection - nothing but orphans. Any other nodes we can connect to?
Wallet? using linux client btw - you guys will crack up but there are already 1100+ blocks mined (i.e., 500k coins). I've hit 3 but they were all orphaned. I think these guys have a private network going and aren't sharing to the public quite yet. It is obvious what is going on there are a couple of large miners with big farms or more. They freinds with all these new account devs (part of the same crew) - they ready to go from the start, rapes the coin and the rest of you get nothing. Soon he will have lots of vip for sale. Watch for him on lots of past coins, always there at the very start always has lots of coins for sale. Most people here are just the mugs getting scraps and used to pump the coins popularity.

Dev you better start making people like this coin by attracting them by replying to posts, do some with giveaways. make some marketing man, advertising on reddit and other media, make more bountys, faucets, etc. Attract pool owners when difficulty is higher. I can help you with this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=389104.0Dont think the name alone is going to do the trick unless you have a HUGE celebrity ready to backup VIPcoin on youtube or something and if you better hurry

What is this like the 4th or 5th dead coin released since the start of the year.
No windows wallet at release = no dice.
Have a good time wasting your hashing power.

So this is solo mine for now? No pools set up? If so, not very fair to the tiny miners but it is VIP after all .
